Bug#692436: asus-laptop; ACPI HWRS method takes 12 sconds on UL30A

 Dear Maintainer,

After an update to linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64 from linux-image-3.2.0-3-amd64,
I noticed boots were taking longer.
I saw Waiting for /dev to be fully populated, so I disabled quiet boot...
I saw loading the module asus_laptop (asus-laptop.ko) was taking well over
 11 seconds.
I tried booting my prior kernel 3.2.0-3-amd64 (3.2.23-1), and it was rapid,
 with no pause at all:

 as /devices/platform/asus_laptop/input/input4
Nov 5 22:33:12 lt kernel: [1.932089] usbcore: registered new device
 driver usb
 [...]

With the new version the result is:

 [ 49.212691] asus_laptop: Asus Laptop Support version 0.42
 [ 49.213050] asus_laptop: UL30A model detected
 [ 61.516586] asus_laptop: HWRS returned 80
[ 140.393870] asus_laptop: Backlight controlled by ACPI video driver
[ 140.394023] input: Asus Laptop extra button as
 /devices/platform/asus_laptop/input/input11
 [...]

This is presumably due to fixing the typo in the name 'HWRS'. Seems
like a BIOS bug, but is there anything that can be done about it? Would
it make sense to restrict which models this method is used on?

 Ben.

Hum, we can safely remove this call if it can cause that kind of issue.
Could you cook a patch removing HWRS call on startup end si it to
platform-x86 and stable ? I'll be happy to ack it.
Thanks,

Modulo the problems with the dir file, I suppose ;-)

I'm able to decrypt a message crypted with my 4096bit key.

Great. Thus I consider this bug resolved.

Is there still time to do get a new release into Wheezy?

The master branch I didn't test yet. I'll give you a notice as soon as I
 did.

There are still card related issues in master. Thus I don't consider
this test very important.

Bug#691741: Provides: boom-engine, but does not supply /usr/games/boom

2012-11-07 Thread Jon Dowland
On Mon, Oct 29, 2012 at 11:51:07AM +0100, Fabian Greffrath wrote:
since revision 1.33-4, vavoom provides the virtual boom-engine package.
However, it does not supply an alternative for the corresponding binary in
/usr/games/boom. This means, vavoom satisfies freedoom's depends on a boom-
engine, but fails to start it:

 $ freedoom
 /usr/games/freedoom: 5: /usr/games/freedoom: /usr/games/boom: not found

There are two ways to fix this problem.

The first is to provide an alternative for boom, but 'vavoom' does not support
the -iwad flag used by /usr/games/boom, so we would need to write a wrapper.

The wrapper would need to convert -iwad /foo/bar/doom2.wad into a mixture of
-iwaddir /foo/bar and -doom2. But how can it know that the file doom2.wad is
doom2? Do we

1) hardcode a list of basename:game mappings (doom2.wad:doom2; DOOM2.WAD:doom2…)
2) hardcode a list of hashes and compare the arguments

Both are quite involved for a simple wrapper and prone to failure if someone
modifies their IWAD etc.

The second way would be to modify freedoom's wrapper to inspect what is
providing 'boom' and switch to using vavoom flags if it detects vavoom.
This is also prone to fail, perhaps boom is a custom alternative set by
the sysadmin, or points at a binary that we don't recognise. But I think
that's probably less likely than the above.

PS: The pkg-games GIT repo is out of sync with the package in unstable!

I've fixed this now, thanks for pointing it out.

Hi, any news about that or nobody cares?

Sorry for not replying to your bug report earlier. As you may or may
not know, Debian is already in freeze for the upcoming Wheezy release,
and ICU 50 is already out, but we can't upgrade to it for Wheezy. If
you believe this issue is important enough that Wheezy should not
release with this bug, then please upgrade the severity of the bug to
make it release critical, or express this view in your reply, and I will
upgrade it. Then I will investigate what changed between ICU 44, 48,
and 49 to break and fix this problem and see if I can backport and get a
 release freeze exception.

If you can provide step-by-step instructions for reproducing the
problem, such as code that you can compile and link with different
versions of ICU that generates different results, along with an
indication of what results you expect, it will significantly increase
the odds that this will get fixed. If you could offer an actual fix to
ICU, that would be better still, but just providing details on how to
reproduce the problem would be a great start. I've never used php-intl
and don't know anything about it, but I'm guessing you should be able to
provide a php script that can be run from the command-line to illustrate
 the problem. Thanks.

Thank for your reply. It's important issue for our team. Because of thin bug
we can't upgrade our servers to Wheezy in future, because our application
works uncorrect. I we pleased if you backport that fix to libicu version in
Wheezy.

http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=2wTqJXgi - this example php script, you can run
it in console and get output(with highlight problem line).
I got libicu from http://site.icu-project.org/download/49#TOC-ICU4C-Download
and with this version are fine.

Yes, I switched to it when I found that this bug had been fixed
upstream; it seems to resolve more (but still not all!) symbols from
separated debug symbol files.

To get full call graphs, I had to recompile the package I'm testing
(gnome-shell) with DEB_CFLAGS_APPEND=-fno-omit-frame-pointer and
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip (perhaps just using
-fno-omit-frame-pointer would have been enough, I haven't tried that).

I had to tweak the configure line a little to manage to get it to call
the correct (new) programs:

git clean -x -d ./autogen.sh ./configure --enable-maintainer-mode
--enable-symcryptrun --enable-mailto --enable-gpgtar
--prefix=/home/yaperez/tmp/gnupg/

--with-pinentry-pgm=/usr/bin/pinentry-gtk-2 make

(note that --with-pinentry-pgm doesn't seem to work but I eventually
made a symlink to /usr/bin/pinentry)

I'm able to decrypt a message crypted with my 4096bit key.

Great. Thus I consider this bug resolved.

Indeed, I managed to decrypt stuff with 4096 key on smartcard. There
might be other places where message splits need to be handled, but as
far as decryption goes, it seems to work fine.

Is there still time to do get a new release into Wheezy?

A full new upstream relase, I'm not really sure, even though it's a
bugfix release. Isolated patches against 2.0.19 might be more acceptable
(I'm not sure how large is the diff between 2.0.19 and 2.0.20). In the
end it's the release team decision (but they usually like patches and
bugs :)

Yes, but it's resolvable using rm :)

Agreed.

This I can't answer, it depends on Yves-Alexis, I think.

The master branch I didn't test yet. I'll give you a notice as soon as I
  did.

There are still card related issues in master. Thus I don't consider
 this test very important.

Meanwhile I gave it a try, but wasn't successful. Could be because of
some interferences with the installed 2.0, or some scdaemon was still
running, or because it just didn't work. So I'll stop investing time into the
master branch?

--allow-unauthenticated install pp-tsubasa-ct-ct variant-userdebug
result-flashable

It choose the worng version of package 'fw-rpm-tsubasa-ct' which depend by
package 'pp-tsubasa-ct-ct'.
There is a debian package in the local source folder(deb
file:/home/CORPUSERS/28849869/test/./ /) with version
'BLUE-8960-17X1-CT-121011-2257' and
there is also a debian package in the remote source list(deb
http://androidswrepo-cnbj.sonyericsson.net/ 9.0.E.0.192 semc) with version
'BLUE-8960-17XX-CT-121009-0801'.
But when run 'apt-get install', it use pacakge 'fw-rpm-tsubasa-ct' with version
'BLUE-8960-17X1-CT-121011-2257' but not use version
'BLUE-8960-17XX-CT-121009-0801'.
In the old behavrior of apt-get it choose the latest version of the package say
version '17XX' should be later than version '17X1' because character 'X' should
be latter than number '1'.

So the question is:
1.what is the behavior of apt-get to choose the version of package?
2.Is there some way to set a rule that could specify specific source list(say
local folder) have a higher priority than the remote source list when run
'apt-get install'?

Thank you.

deleted remote folders. This does not happen with type = Gmail repositories.
Commenting out createfolders = False does not change anything - commenting out
readonly = True and leaving createfolders = False commented in results in
folders not being re-created on the remote.

Since this works for Gmail accounts, I assume that this is a simple oversight in
the generic IMAP handling code.

I'm somewhat tempted to set a higher severity since strictly speaking this
causes
data loss...

chmod: missing operand after `755'
Try `chmod --help' for more information.

Omitting the -b parameter has no effect on the output.

Bug#692535: iucode-tool: did not load modprobe/update microcode after installation

2012-11-07 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: iucode-tool
Version: 0.8.3-1

Hi,

This is report following my post
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2012/11/msg00113.html

Summary of situation:

 • I have APT::Install-Recommends set to false
 • I installed intel-microcode
 • I noticed iucode-tool was not installed, so installed it
 • Microcode was not updated.

Ideally IMHO the above sequence of events would load microcode. I sorted
the issue in that session by modprobing cpuid and running iucode_tool by
hand.

Thanks for your work on these packages!

No, you have to keep the submitter in copy yourself. The Debian BTS is
a PITA in that regard, but that's no excuse for failing to communicate.

Well, the binary package quantum-plugin-ryu-agent is affected
indeed, but I believe this is the view of the whole Openstack
packaging team, that having just one of the pluggins being broken
isn't a reason good enough for completely removing Quantum from
Wheezy, which otherwise seem to work properly (for example using
 OpenVSwitch).

More over, I don't think any of the members of the Openstack
packaging team has access to a Ryu hardware in order to test this

 Your thoughts?

If you can't figure out a way to fix that plugin, just drop that

Bug#692539: debian-edu-config: Diskless workstations with XFCE do not register logged in users in utmp

2012-11-07 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: debian-edu-config
Version: 1.453
Severity: important

A customer reported that shutdown-at-night on diskless workstations
running XFCE turn off machines even if there is a user logged in. The
cause is that the logged in user is not registered in utmp, causing
'who' to not show any logged in users, making shutdown-at-night to
believe the machine is unused.

I am not quite sure why, but one idea might be that /var/lib/kdm is used
to store the current user status, and the fact that this directory isn't
writable causes kdm to not update utmp. If that is the case, this patch
should solve it.

Well, it is the usual problem with inter-library dependencies. We will
never be able to get this right. The DSO is just not designed to work
with completely independent libraries. I don't like to say, but in this
regard Windows DLLs are a better solution.

Although we can't solve all the problems we will be able to solve the
thread initialization problem. Libgcrypt 1.6 will ignore the thread
callbacks and assume pthread. Semaphores are then used for locking and
provide a way to do thread-safe initialization. The hopefully minor
drawback is that one needs to link against librt.

 + case GCRYCTL_SET_THREAD_CBS:
 +   err = ath_install (va_arg (arg_ptr, void *), any_init_done);
 +- if (! err)
 +-  global_init ();

Okay, if that works, fine. It might break other things; I don't know.
There are enough selftests to hopefully detect such a break (in
particular in FIPS mode).

While there are several nice improvements in the 0.16 series,
I definitely would not agree that 0.14 is unusable.

The sort order of all music album is alphabetical and makes this
program definitely unusable for playing music.

I still disagree with you. A couple of reasons:

There are many common uses-cases which does not involve
music playing at all.

While playing a music album in track order might be
a good default, not everyone wants to do that
Since the music somehow plays still, I don't see it as
unusable - just inconvenient.

I've made 0.16 packages available in experimental but I haven't
had much time on working at making them release quality yet.

What is release quality ? How can I help, what do you need, to make
 them release quality ?

There's some indication that the packaged software actually works
for some usecase.
(For example the 0.16 version ubuntu initially where going to ship
in their most recent release was severly broken - fortunately caught
and fixed in time before the release.)

The package doesn't miss installing files from the upstream
build system. (Which is currently the case.)

And I bet if/when we start looking closer we'll find more issues.
So what you can help out with is basically looking/hunting for
issues and fixing them. Just by looking briefly I've already
identified issues exists and I'm pretty sure there are more.
Your help is very welcome.

Also, this is not up to me unless you can convince the
release team - this will not happen for wheezy.
You're more then welcome to help out creating backports for wheeezy.
I'm sure there will be alot more stuff that are cool in the 0.18 and
future series as well which wheezy users will want to use

The very need of backport is that packages are obsolete when stable
is released. This is the other side of the coin.

You need to insert for *me* in the above sentence for it to be
true. There are alot of users who are perfectly happy users of
the current package which will be upset if something is broken
for them now.

I can help to make this not to happen for rygel :).

You're joining the party very late, so I doubt you can but would be
very happy if you could prove me wrong on that.

 Regards,
 Michel

Okay. Using 2.0 and 2.1 together is a bit of a challenge ;-)

Bug#687642: gnat-4.6: libgnarl-4.6.a should be rebuilt with -fPIC, libaws FBTFS

2012-11-07 Thread Konstantinos Margaritis
Hi,
(sorry for the delay, but for some reason I didn't receive this email)

libgnarl-4.6.a is the *static* library, it should definitely not be
 compiled with -fPIC.

The *shared* library, libgnarl-4.6.so, is already built with -fPIC.

If you have time before I do, please investigate why gnatmake, invoked
 thus:

 gnatmake -j1 -fPIC -p -Pdebian/build_aws.gpr -Xkind=dynamic \
  -Xsoname=libaws.so.2.10.2

tries to link the new shared library against the static version of
libgnarl-4.6. If we're lucky, the problem is in build_aws.gpr; if
we're unlucky, it is in gnatmake itself and only strikes on armhf
because all other architectures are OK. I have a hunch that the
latter is closer to the truth :/

This is what I get:

# gnatmake -j1 -fPIC -p -Pdebian/build_aws.gpr -Xkind=dynamic
-Xsoname=libaws.so.2.10.2

building dynamic library for project build_aws
gcc-4.6 -shared -o /root/libaws-2.10.2/debian/tmp/dynamic//libaws.so.2.10.2 ...
/root/libaws-2.10.2/debian/tmp/obj-dynamic/aws-services-directory.o ...
/usr//bin/ld:
/usr/lib/gcc/arm-linux-gnueabihf/4.6/adalib//libgnarl-4.6.a(s-taprop.o):
relocation R_ARM_THM_MOVW_ABS_NC against `a local symbol' can not be used when
making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
/usr/lib/gcc/arm-linux-gnueabihf/4.6/adalib//libgnarl-4.6.a: could not read
symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
gnatmake: gcc-4.6 execution error

It still looks like a problem in libgnarl-4.6.a to me. armhf is built
with Thumb2 which according to some more knowledgeable people than
myself, has only 25 bits for largest relocation vs 27 bits in arm mode.
Usually, this is not a problem but some packages do fail to build
because of this. What works without -fPIC on most architectures, can
potentially need -fPIC on armhf (and I've filed quite a few bugs about
this myself.

Regards

Konstantinos

Bug#692542: software-properties-gtk: Can not select any software source or mirror in the 'Debian Software' tab

2012-11-07 Thread Carugnom
Package: software-properties-gtk
Version: 0.82.7.1debian1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When I use this app to choose a mirror, or try to select

* Officially supported (main)
* DFSG-compatible Software with Non-Free Dependences (contrib)
* Non-DFSG-compatible Software (non-free)

The program simply does nothing.
The mirror i've selected isn't changed in the combo box
The check boxes aren't marked

So, the program is not utilizable for it's purposes
I've seen this problem around for a long time, and i guess this was solved in
squeeze.
But I have the same problem in wheeze again.

I'm a developer, but I don't have experience with Debian.
May I could help if you tell me how

Thank you

This confirms what I said: gnatmake (or gnatlink) is trying to link
the *shared* libaws.so.2.10.2 against the *static* libgnarl-4.6.a,
which is *wrong*. I don't know in which program this bug is in:

No. As I said previously, it is necessary to link the *shared*

Bug#692548: lintian: zxx no in data/files/locale-codes

2012-11-07 Thread Jakub Wilk

Package: lintian
Version: 2.5.10.2
Severity: minor

data/files/locale-codes has this line:

zxx no

It doesn't make sense: zxx means no linguistic content (so it
probably shouldn't be listed in this file at all), whereas no is the
Norwegian macrolanguage.

Could you please confirm this ? Otherwise I will close the bug in a month.

Bug#692551: Symlinks in share root are not shown to client if share has sticky bit

2012-11-07 Thread Vladimir K
Package: samba
Version: 2:3.6.6-3
Severity: normal

Dear maintainer,
I have samba server configured to follow symlinks.
Some of the lines of my smb.conf:
 [global]
 unix extensions = no
 [public]
 path = /home/public
 wide links = yes
 follow symlinks = yes

Generally it works as it should, but If share path has a sticky bit set, client
does not see symlinks placed in the root of this share.
Symlinks placed in subdirs of the share are correctly shown regardless of
sticky bit:
/home/public/symlink1 not shown on client if /home/public has sticky bit
/home/public/subdir/symlink2 always shown on client
The moment I do 'chmod -t /home/public', symlinks in share root appear on
client.

Bug#692552: cpufreqd: has all CPU cores run at full speed upon installation

2012-11-07 Thread Andreas Glaeser
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: cpufreqd
Version: 2.4.2-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Installing cpufreqd shows paradox results. Without cpufreqd CPU-frequency
scaling works
perfectly fine on my PC. Once it is installed, all CPU-cores run at full speed.
I do not
like this at all. Changing the configuration file according to what my CPU
actually
provides (see below) did not have any effect.
I do not know enough to tell, why CPU-frequency-scaling works by default on my
system
when newly installed, but does not work anymore, once cpufreqd is installed. On
other
systems I saw different outcomes, when chanching /etc/cpufreqd.conf. Maybe this
is due to
some shortcoming of CPU-sensors ?
The only way to revert this seems to be uninstalling cpufreqd again and
rebooting the
machine, then everything is as it was before.

 Quoting Aron Xu (happyaron...@gmail.com):
  Package: debian-installer

  Dear d-i maintainers,

I found that be2iscsi module is absent in d-i image. The module are the
driver of iSCSI functions in Emulex be2/3 NICs, which is a standard
configuration for HP BL490c G7 blade servers.

Missing this module makes d-i not able to detect the hard drive provided by
the iSCSI HBA in the Emulex NIC, hence not able to install the system to
SAN, which is vital for diskless configurations.

Thanks for the suggestion. This indeed belongs to kernel packages as
the linux source package is the one building d-i kernels and modules
 set.

I'm not familiar with NICs that do iSCSI offload. Does the host need to
provide any configuration to them, or is that all handled by the
 on-board firmware?

Theoretically the new device should appear as something like a disk in
host OS (looks like something in /dev/mapper/, but I'm not familiar
with the kernel), at least on RHEL (also VMWare ESXi) and SuSE it
works in such a way. While it may not work out of box on Debian
because in my test Ubuntu 12.10 server iso has be2iscsi driver and the
driver can be loaded automatically, but no additional disk-like device
appear in partman.

HP BL490/495 are almost targeted for virtualization, and it's very
common to have only a small SD card within, or even completely
diskless. I can do test for this issue to make it work on Debian, we
have spare machine for testing.

Bug#668197: (no subject)

2012-11-07 Thread David Smith
Set x-www-browser as fallback.
Make sure to launch the gnome default browser only when that option is selected
and set x-www-browser as fallback for all situations.

It's better than the above patches because:
1. Don't need to remove browser options
2. All browser options now even if you don't have a gnome/gtk default browser
configured.
3. x-www-browser fallback so you're always guaranteed a browser is launched so
long as your package manager isn't broken and you have a web browser installed.

 Hi!

As you already know, the documents taken from the official Debian
website are not really copyrighted by SPI:
 http://bugs.debian.org/388141

Moreover, those documents are licensed under the terms of the
Open Publication License, Draft v1.0 or later, and thus fail to comply
 with the DFSG:

 http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2004/03/msg00226.html

This is not a blocker for the wheezy release. Tagging as such.

 Dear Maintainer,

Hi,

When I select French , Horde stays in English

 In /etc/horde/horde3/nls.php there are :
$nls['languages']['fr_FR'] = 'Fran#xe7;ais';
...
$nls['aliases']['fr'] = 'fr_FR';

 With
$nls['languages']['fr_FR.UTF8'] = 'Fran#xe7;ais';
...
$nls['aliases']['fr'] = 'fr_FR.UTF8';

 It is good

Note that horde 3 will not be in wheezy.

For your problem, run dpkg-reconfigure locale and check fr_FR
(ISO-8859-1) and/or fr_FR@euro (ISO-8859-15). This should be enough.

I would thus suggest to simply drop gnome-themes-standard-common.

Anyway, I also stumbled upon this lintian info:

Bug#692465: Managing aiccu through mentors.debian.net

2012-11-07 Thread Jeroen Massar
Hi,

We (SixXS), who are heavy Debian users ourselves for years and more
importantly for this, the authors of aiccu, are very willing to take
over the packaging details and bug tracking resolving portions for aiccu.

We are in the process of finalizing the long long overdue of minor fixes
but more importantly a lot of new features for AICCU that have been
added since the last release and pushing our full repo to:
 https://github.com/SixXS/aiccu

to make the AICCU development process a lot more open and transparent by
making use of the various features that github offers (git repo, bug
tracker, patch integration etc).

From that repo we'll be releasing new versions of AICCU and the (Debian)
packages associated with it. We'll also push these to mentors.debian.net
so that those changes can directly be integrated into Debian and Ubuntu
by a mentor who is willing to accept them.

Greets,
 Jeroen

Bug#644132: liferea: segfault when opening github link in a tab

2012-11-07 Thread David Smith

On Planet Debian, Jose Luis Rivas Contreras posted an item titled
Moving from Screen to Tmux, which has a link to tmux.conf, hosted at
github. Trying to open the link in a tab makes liferea crash. Backtrace:

Hello,

I'm assuming the url you're referring to is here:
http://ghostbar.ath.cx/2011/10/02/moving-from-screen-to-tmux/

And the tmux.conf file that caused the crash is here:
https://github.com/ghostbar/userdotfiles/blob/master/tmux.conf

I've tried the above in a new tab in liferea (1.8.6-1) and I wasn't able to
reproduce it. It's possible it was a bug in webkit that has already been fixed.

If possible, give it a try and let me know if you're still having any problems.

Thanks.

I quickly browsed around a bit. The killall() function in
gateone/utils.py looks kind of scary. It seems to kill all processes
that contain python and gateone.py in their name. This should match
emacs -nw python.txt gateone.py and might be a mild security issue
too:

for session in sessions:
if session in cmdline:

elif 'python' in cmdline:

Perhaps gateone could use cgroups?

Because the microcode module was missing at the point the intel-microcode

reassign it to intel-microcode.

Bug#638262: fontconfig-config: Fonts look ugly

2012-11-07 Thread Vincent Bernat

Since most screens are now LCD, the default configuration of
fontconfig-config could be altered to enable the following
 configuration files:
 [...]
Also, two additional configuration files could be provided and
 enabled by default:
 [...]

I tested these suggestions on a Wheezy system,
and I must say the result is astonishingly nicer, less blury,
and more readable on a Thinkpad X201 display.

Vincent, have you tested how your suggestions behave on a CRT display?

Unfortunately, I don't have a CRT actually. Since this is just a default
configuration and most users have LCD now, it seems a sensible change
even if font rendering is degraded on CRT displays. If we can't please
both users, it seems better to please the vast majority.

Yes, only tarball should be left as a result.
See Debian Policy §4.9 for details.

Thank you very much.

I still have some doubts, however:
1) what should be the name of the generated tarball?

The usual one :), i.e.: package_upstream-version.orig.tar.extension

2) what does the original source tar file format described below in
Debian Policy §4.9 means? (I was not able to find the format described
anywhere)

It looks like a bug in the Policy text to me.

3) what does This target may be invoked in any directory in Debian
Policy §4.9 means? Does it mean, for example, that I cannot use the
following command:

uscan --download-current-version --destdir temporary?

You can't, unless you chdir to the directory that contains
debian/{changelog,watch}. If you need an example, take a look at the
openinbrowser package.

The man page for rcS is dated 16 January 2006.

The parallel boot system added at least one option which is not mentioned in
the rcS man page, 'CONCURRENCY'. This option is mentioned in for example

 http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/release-notes/ch-whats-new.en.html

but it takes a bit of finding (and, given the values found for the existing
defaults, the value suggested there is implausible).

This is intentionally undocumented.

In previous stable releases, concurrent boot was optional, and
if you wanted to try out parallel boot, you had to enable it
using CONCURRENCY.

Nowadays, parallel startup using startpar is the default. Disabling
this is not something which is useful, and so it's not documented as
a tweakable option. The option could well be removed entirely in
future releases.

Roger

Bug#692564: RFP: libqmi-glib -- QMI modem protocol helper library

Package: wnpp

* Package name: libqmi-glib
Version : 1.0.0 (not yet released)

* URL : http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libqmi/
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: C
Description : QMI modem protocol helper library

libqmi is an on-going effort to get a library providing easy access to
Qualcomm’s ‘QMI’ protocol. It is needed by the current development version of
Modem Manager.

The current libqmi available is based on the GLib/GObject/GIO-powered
‘libqmi-glib’. libqmi tries to ease the use of the protocol by providing:

* A ‘QmiDevice‘ object to control the access to the /dev/cdc-wdm device. This
object allows creating new per-service ‘QmiClient’s. It also hides the use of
the implicit ‘CTL’ service client.

* The ‘QmiClient‘ object provides an interface to the set of request/responses
of a given service. Users of the library will just need to execute a
GIO-asynchronous method to send the request and get the processed response.

* The ‘QmiClient‘ object also provides signals for each of the indications
given in the service.
The input and output arguments needed in requests, responses and indications
are compiled into ‘bundles’.
These bundles are opaque structs with accessors for their elements, which allow
us to add new TLVs to a given message in the future without breaking API/ABI.

It is close to lintian clean now but there is some CLASSPATH issue
which is probably very easy for Java experts:

$ fastqc
Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
uk/ac/babraham/FastQC/FastQCApplication
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
uk.ac.babraham.FastQC.FastQCApplication
at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:217)
at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:205)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:321)
at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:294)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:266)
Could not find the main class: uk.ac.babraham.FastQC.FastQCApplication. Program
will exit.

or when trying manually what the wrapper tries to do

$ java -jar /usr/share/fastqc/fastqc.jar uk.ac.babraham.FastQC.FastQCApplication
Skipping 'uk.ac.babraham.FastQC.FastQCApplication' which didn't exist, or
couldn't be read

My suspicion is that simply specifying the Main-Class in debian/manifest
is not sufficient. Something might be wrong with the Debian home brewn
Makefile as quilt patch and ant+built.xml might do a better job to build
the Jar functionally. Any hint for doing this properly?

Note to obtain the source as easy as possible: Just use the uscan from

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=users/tille/devscripts.git;a=blob;f=scripts/uscan.pl

to call

   uscan.pl --verbose --force-download --repack-compression xz

which gives you a properly stripped source tarball.

Kind regards and thanks for any help

   Andreas.

Done (in my svn copy, not yet committed). [ By the way, personal mail would
have worked too. ]

Funnily enough I made the same comment to ess-core when they failed to
mention / add Julia in the first section of their FAQ on 'what is ess'.

I knew :) I already re-tweeted Viral's post about this. Thanks for doing
that. Will you be adding a ppa too? I also tend to run a bunch of Ubuntu
instances.

Amicalement, Dirk

Bug#638262: fontconfig-config: Fonts look ugly

2012-11-07 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

Vincent Bernat wrote (07 Nov 2012 09:20:51 GMT) :
Unfortunately, I don't have a CRT actually. Since this is just
a default configuration and most users have LCD now, it seems
a sensible change even if font rendering is degraded on
 CRT displays.

I agree in principle, but I think it depends on *how much* it
is degraded. Hence the need for testing.

Cheers,

Bug#692568: RFP: wkhtmltopdf -- Convert HTML to PDF using the WebKit rendering engine and Qt

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

  Version : 0.11.0~rc1
Upstream Author : Jan Habermann, Christian Sciberras and Jakob Truelsen
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/wkhtmltopdf/
* License : LGPL-3+

Description : Convert HTML to PDF using the WebKit rendering engine and Qt

Simple command line tool to convert HTML to PDF with WebKit. Publican
(which I am maintaining) can make use of this tool to generate PDF files.
But I would really prefer if someone else could maintain this tool.

Full features requires a patched Qt. Some coordination with the Qt
mainainers is in order... or you decide to package the version
with less features.

Thank you in advance for your help!
