Bug#691741: Provides: boom-engine, but does not supply /usr/games/boom
On Mon, Oct 29, 2012 at 11:51:07AM +0100, Fabian Greffrath wrote: since revision 1.33-4, vavoom provides the virtual boom-engine package. However, it does not supply an alternative for the corresponding binary in /usr/games/boom. This means, vavoom satisfies freedoom's depends on a boom- engine, but fails to start it: $ freedoom /usr/games/freedoom: 5: /usr/games/freedoom: /usr/games/boom: not found There are two ways to fix this problem. The first is to provide an alternative for boom, but 'vavoom' does not support the -iwad flag used by /usr/games/boom, so we would need to write a wrapper. The wrapper would need to convert -iwad /foo/bar/doom2.wad into a mixture of -iwaddir /foo/bar and -doom2. But how can it know that the file doom2.wad is doom2? Do we 1) hardcode a list of basename:game mappings (doom2.wad:doom2; DOOM2.WAD:doom2…) 2) hardcode a list of hashes and compare the arguments Both are quite involved for a simple wrapper and prone to failure if someone modifies their IWAD etc. The second way would be to modify freedoom's wrapper to inspect what is providing 'boom' and switch to using vavoom flags if it detects vavoom. This is also prone to fail, perhaps boom is a custom alternative set by the sysadmin, or points at a binary that we don't recognise. But I think that's probably less likely than the above. PS: The pkg-games GIT repo is out of sync with the package in unstable! I've fixed this now, thanks for pointing it out. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Sorry for not replying to your bug report earlier. As you may or may not know, Debian is already in freeze for the upcoming Wheezy release, and ICU 50 is already out, but we can't upgrade to it for Wheezy. If you believe this issue is important enough that Wheezy should not release with this bug, then please upgrade the severity of the bug to make it release critical, or express this view in your reply, and I will upgrade it. Then I will investigate what changed between ICU 44, 48, and 49 to break and fix this problem and see if I can backport and get a release freeze exception. If you can provide step-by-step instructions for reproducing the problem, such as code that you can compile and link with different versions of ICU that generates different results, along with an indication of what results you expect, it will significantly increase the odds that this will get fixed. If you could offer an actual fix to ICU, that would be better still, but just providing details on how to reproduce the problem would be a great start. I've never used php-intl and don't know anything about it, but I'm guessing you should be able to provide a php script that can be run from the command-line to illustrate the problem. Thanks. Thank for your reply. It's important issue for our team. Because of thin bug we can't upgrade our servers to Wheezy in future, because our application works uncorrect. I we pleased if you backport that fix to libicu version in Wheezy. http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=2wTqJXgi - this example php script, you can run it in console and get output(with highlight problem line). Bug#685251: Severity as important
Thomas Goirand tho...@goirand.fr (07/11/2012): I believe that an experienced DD like Jakub can subscribe to the bug if he wants to. No, you have to keep the submitter in copy yourself. The Debian BTS is a PITA in that regard, but that's no excuse for failing to communicate. Well, the binary package quantum-plugin-ryu-agent is affected indeed, but I believe this is the view of the whole Openstack packaging team, that having just one of the pluggins being broken isn't a reason good enough for completely removing Quantum from Wheezy, which otherwise seem to work properly (for example using OpenVSwitch). More over, I don't think any of the members of the Openstack packaging team has access to a Ryu hardware in order to test this pluggin. Your thoughts? If you can't figure out a way to fix that plugin, just drop that unusableunfixable binary package? Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#692539: debian-edu-config: Diskless workstations with XFCE do not register logged in users in utmp
Package: debian-edu-config Version: 1.453 Severity: important A customer reported that shutdown-at-night on diskless workstations running XFCE turn off machines even if there is a user logged in. The cause is that the logged in user is not registered in utmp, causing 'who' to not show any logged in users, making shutdown-at-night to believe the machine is unused. I am not quite sure why, but one idea might be that /var/lib/kdm is used to store the current user status, and the fact that this directory isn't writable causes kdm to not update utmp. Bug#566351: libgcrypt11: should not change user id as a side effect
On Sat, 3 Nov 2012 18:29, ametz...@downhill.at.eu.org said: comment sums it up: https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/sudo/+bug/423252/comments/72 Well, it is the usual problem with inter-library dependencies. We will never be able to get this right. The DSO is just not designed to work with completely independent libraries. I don't like to say, but in this regard Windows DLLs are a better solution. Although we can't solve all the problems we will be able to solve the thread initialization problem. Libgcrypt 1.6 will ignore the thread callbacks and assume pthread. Semaphores are then used for locking and provide a way to do thread-safe initialization. The hopefully minor drawback is that one needs to link against librt. + case GCRYCTL_SET_THREAD_CBS: + err = ath_install (va_arg (arg_ptr, void *), any_init_done); +- if (! err) +- global_init (); Okay, if that works, fine. It might break other things; I don't know. There are enough selftests to hopefully detect such a break (in particular in FIPS mode). Salam-Shalom, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei. Bug#692124: rygel: freezed version of rygel is missing very important fixes

The sort order of all music album is alphabetical and makes this program definitely unusable for playing music. I still disagree with you. A couple of reasons: There are many common uses-cases which does not involve music playing at all. While playing a music album in track order might be a good default, not everyone wants to do that Since the music somehow plays still, I don't see it as unusable - just inconvenient. I've made 0.16 packages available in experimental but I haven't had much time on working at making them release quality yet. What is release quality ? How can I help, what do you need, to make them release quality ? There's some indication that the packaged software actually works for some usecase. (For example the 0.16 version ubuntu initially where going to ship in their most recent release was severly broken - fortunately caught and fixed in time before the release.) The package doesn't miss installing files from the upstream build system. (Which is currently the case.) And I bet if/when we start looking closer we'll find more issues. So what you can help out with is basically looking/hunting for issues and fixing them. Just by looking briefly I've already identified issues exists and I'm pretty sure there are more. Your help is very welcome. Also, this is not up to me unless you can convince the release team - this will not happen for wheezy. You're more then welcome to help out creating backports for wheeezy. I'm sure there will be alot more stuff that are cool in the 0.18 and future series as well which wheezy users will want to use The very need of backport is that packages are obsolete when stable is released. This is the other side of the coin. You need to insert for *me* in the above sentence for it to be true. There are alot of users who are perfectly happy users of the current package which will be upset if something is broken for them now. I can help to make this not to happen for rygel :). You're joining the party very late, so I doubt you can but would be very happy if you could prove me wrong on that. Hi, (sorry for the delay, but for some reason I didn't receive this email) libgnarl-4.6.a is the *static* library, it should definitely not be compiled with -fPIC. The *shared* library, libgnarl-4.6.so, is already built with -fPIC. If you have time before I do, please investigate why gnatmake, invoked thus: gnatmake -j1 -fPIC -p -Pdebian/build_aws.gpr -Xkind=dynamic \ -Xsoname=libaws.so.2.10.2 tries to link the new shared library against the static version of libgnarl-4.6. If we're lucky, the problem is in build_aws.gpr; if we're unlucky, it is in gnatmake itself and only strikes on armhf because all other architectures are OK. I have a hunch that the latter is closer to the truth :/ This is what I get: # gnatmake -j1 -fPIC -p -Pdebian/build_aws.gpr -Xkind=dynamic -Xsoname=libaws.so.2.10.2 building dynamic library for project build_aws gcc-4.6 -shared -o /root/libaws-2.10.2/debian/tmp/dynamic//libaws.so.2.10.2 ... /root/libaws-2.10.2/debian/tmp/obj-dynamic/aws-services-directory.o ... /usr//bin/ld: /usr/lib/gcc/arm-linux-gnueabihf/4.6/adalib//libgnarl-4.6.a(s-taprop.o): relocation R_ARM_THM_MOVW_ABS_NC against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC /usr/lib/gcc/arm-linux-gnueabihf/4.6/adalib//libgnarl-4.6.a: could not read symbols: Bad value collect2: ld returned 1 exit status gnatmake: gcc-4.6 execution error It still looks like a problem in libgnarl-4.6.a to me. armhf is built with Thumb2 which according to some more knowledgeable people than myself, has only 25 bits for largest relocation vs 27 bits in arm mode. Usually, this is not a problem but some packages do fail to build because of this. What works without -fPIC on most architectures, can potentially need -fPIC on armhf (and I've filed quite a few bugs about this myself. Without cpufreqd CPU-frequency scaling works perfectly fine on my PC. Once it is installed, all CPU-cores run at full speed. I do not like this at all. Changing the configuration file according to what my CPU actually provides (see below) did not have any effect. I do not know enough to tell, why CPU-frequency-scaling works by default on my system when newly installed, but does not work anymore, once cpufreqd is installed. On other systems I saw different outcomes, when chanching /etc/cpufreqd.conf. Maybe this is due to some shortcoming of CPU-sensors ? The module are the driver of iSCSI functions in Emulex be2/3 NICs, which is a standard configuration for HP BL490c G7 blade servers. Missing this module makes d-i not able to detect the hard drive provided by the iSCSI HBA in the Emulex NIC, hence not able to install the system to SAN, which is vital for diskless configurations. Thanks for the suggestion. This indeed belongs to kernel packages as the linux source package is the one building d-i kernels and modules set. I'm not familiar with NICs that do iSCSI offload. Does the host need to provide any configuration to them, or is that all handled by the on-board firmware? Theoretically the new device should appear as something like a disk in host OS (looks like something in /dev/mapper/, but I'm not familiar with the kernel), at least on RHEL (also VMWare ESXi) and SuSE it works in such a way. While it may not work out of box on Debian because in my test Ubuntu 12.10 server iso has be2iscsi driver and the driver can be loaded automatically, but no additional disk-like device appear in partman. HP BL490/495 are almost targeted for virtualization, and it's very common to have only a small SD card within, or even completely diskless. I can do test for this issue to make it work on Debian, we have spare machine for testing. -- Regards, Aron Xu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. From that repo we'll be releasing new versions of AICCU and the (Debian) packages associated with it. The parallel boot system added at least one option which is not mentioned in the rcS man page, 'CONCURRENCY'. This option is mentioned in for example http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/release-notes/ch-whats-new.en.html but it takes a bit of finding (and, given the values found for the existing defaults, the value suggested there is implausible). This is intentionally undocumented. In previous stable releases, concurrent boot was optional, and if you wanted to try out parallel boot, you had to enable it using CONCURRENCY. Nowadays, parallel startup using startpar is the default. Disabling this is not something which is useful, and so it's not documented as a tweakable option. The option could well be removed entirely in future releases. Regards, Roger -- .''`. Bug#692564: RFP: libqmi-glib -- QMI modem protocol helper library
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: libqmi-glib Version : 1.0.0 (not yet released) Upstream Author : libqmi mailing list libqmi-de...@lists.freedesktop.org * URL : http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libqmi/ * License : LGPL Programming Lang: C Description : QMI modem protocol helper library libqmi is an on-going effort to get a library providing easy access to Qualcomm’s ‘QMI’ protocol. It is needed by the current development version of Modem Manager. The current libqmi available is based on the GLib/GObject/GIO-powered ‘libqmi-glib’. libqmi tries to ease the use of the protocol by providing: * A ‘QmiDevice‘ object to control the access to the /dev/cdc-wdm device. This object allows creating new per-service ‘QmiClient’s. It also hides the use of the implicit ‘CTL’ service client. * The ‘QmiClient‘ object provides an interface to the set of request/responses of a given service. Users of the library will just need to execute a GIO-asynchronous method to send the request and get the processed response. * The ‘QmiClient‘ object also provides signals for each of the indications given in the service. The input and output arguments needed in requests, responses and indications are compiled into ‘bundles’. These bundles are opaque structs with accessors for their elements, which allow us to add new TLVs to a given message in the future without breaking API/ABI. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#670353: Some (minimal?) Java help needed (Was: Bug#670353: ITP: fastqc -- quality control for next generation sequencing data)
Hi, I stumbled upon this one and did some work on it in Vcs-Svn: http://svn.debian.org/debian-med/trunk/packages/babraham/fastqc/trunk/ It is close to lintian clean now but there is some CLASSPATH issue which is probably very easy for Java experts: $ fastqc Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: uk/ac/babraham/FastQC/FastQCApplication Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: uk.ac.babraham.FastQC.FastQCApplication at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:217) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:205) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:321) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:294) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:266) Could not find the main class: uk.ac.babraham.FastQC.FastQCApplication. Program will exit. or when trying manually what the wrapper tries to do $ java -jar /usr/share/fastqc/fastqc.jar uk.ac.babraham.FastQC.FastQCApplication Skipping 'uk.ac.babraham.FastQC.FastQCApplication' which didn't exist, or couldn't be read My suspicion is that simply specifying the Main-Class in debian/manifest is not sufficient. Something might be wrong with the Debian home brewn Makefile as quilt patch and ant+built.xml might do a better job to build the Jar functionally. Any hint for doing this properly? Note to obtain the source as easy as possible: Just use the uscan from http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=users/tille/devscripts.git;a=blob;f=scripts/uscan.pl to call uscan.pl --verbose --force-download --repack-compression xz which gives you a properly stripped source tarball. Kind regards and thanks for any help Andreas.
