Re: MMS binary code..
Right - I understand your problem better now. Send the following MMS to your phone to see a correctly formatted T68i MMS with smil, text and gif all included. The T68i receives this and displays it correctly. http://212.118.244.25/mmstest/Name.mms Alex and that would generally mean that there is smil presentation attached to the message... There is with the above mms. I have a question regarding this issue... * Did anyone here successfully create any mms-presentation working on t68i ? (containing smil) Yes, see above. A short descrition of the problem: t68i complains on message format corrupt (message on screen AFTER downloading the message) when it gets a message containing smil presentation in it. (multipart/related) when sending a message without smil in it (multipart/mixed) it is capable recieving a message... Hopefully the above should help. Alex

Re: MMS binary code..
Hi Alex, List, I believe that the binary message you supplied does not really answer the question... In the message headers you have a Content-type header: 84 19 b3 89 application/smil 00 8a A0 00 which is: Content-Type: application/vnd.wap.multipart.related; type=application/smil; start=A0 and that would generally mean that there is smil presentation attached to the message... but after that follows the number of message attachments - 01 and then go the attached gif image ... there is no other attachments except to the image in that message... thus the appropriate content-type for the message would be: Content-Type: application/vnd.wap.multipart.mixed I have a question regarding this issue... * Did anyone here successfully create any mms-presentation working on t68i ? Andreas Fink wrote: MMS travels on top of WAP. So without WAP, you wont have MMS. I disagree in some sense. MMS is a part of the WAP protcoll stack, that's true. In theory you could use a proterietary SMS MT (or even the normal MMS notification) to indicate the URL where the phone should pull the message. As the connection to the SMSC is HTTP based, the phone may be (if capable) connecting directly to the HTTP and ask for the MMS. Hence the WAP gateway would be out of scope for that MMS related traffic. Think of Nokia's 7650 with the Photo Uploader function. It's a propertiery Nokia HTTP protocoll which lets the phone establish an IP connection (either CSD or GPRS) and talks to the ClubNokia server directly over HTTP without any WAP gateway between them. So in theory yes, it's possible. But I'm not aware of any phone that avoids talking to the WAP gateway. SHARP GX10, MMS, kannel
Title: SHARP GX10, MMS, kannel Hello list, Was anybody able to receive MMS though kannel using Sharp GX10? I can not find what this phone is expecting from gateway. I see that on MMS sending it communicates with gw the same way as nokia or sonyericsson. My mmsc receives the mms correctly and forward it to destination without problem. Destination ericsson T68i without any problem shows the mms, but gx10 reports server error and thinks that mms was not sent. On mms receiving gx10 sends ACK on m-retrieve-conf and then immediately drops the wsp session. On screen it reports server error again. I suspect that I have faulty copy of GX10, but I'd like somebody to confirm it Igor

RE: OTA MMS Settings
Sorry, I did not look into the sms content at the first glance But now I hardly can recognize is as OTA settings See OTA setting specification v.7.0 from nokia and ericsson about how to do it. This document was somewhere on the nokia site. See also http://www.3glab.org/ota.html My previous advise was irrelevant to the problem because 5210 is not mms capable. And neither n7650 nor t68i understand MMSURL in settings Good luck -Original Message-From: Shantanu Jog [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Wednesday, December 04, 2002 11:23 AMTo: Igor Ivoilov; Kannel DevSubject: Re: OTA MMS Settings Hi, After the suggested modification, I am pushing the following: 2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 10 05 04 c3 4f c0 02 00 O...2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 03 04 02 01 00 03 02 02 2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 02 73 00 01 87 29 6b 01 .s...)k.2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 01 86 7c 11 03 68 74 74 ..|..htt2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 70 3a 2f 2f 32 30 33 2e p://203.2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 32 31 32 2e 36 34 2e 32 212.64.22002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 30 00 01 c6 08 01 87 15 0...2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 11 03 43 65 6c 6c 6e 65 ..Cellne2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 78 74 20 4d 4d 53 20 53 xt MMS S2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 65 72 76 69 63 65 73 00 ervices.2002-12-04 14:44:34 [5] DEBUG: data: 01 01 01 ... This indeed causes problems, though CRLF line break is one defined by MIME standard. Perhaps command line option for line break would be usefull - i mean one translating input break to standard ones. Perhaps command line option for line break would be usefull - i mean one translating input break to standard ones. Re: kannel mms?
Hi Dominik, First a SMS (or two) with WAP-URL of the mms-message, priority, date, sender, ccs and bccs will be send to the mms-client (receiver). The receiver press view on his mobile phone and it will connect to the mms proxy-relay (wap-gateway) to get/fetch the mms-message. I hope its correct, because I have three questions to this proceeding an using kannel: yep, so far ok IMO. 1. The frist SMS with informations, like url, priority, date, sender, ... of the mms-message (M-Send.conf), where can I read more about the specifications how this sms looks, is it a text- or 8-bit-sms, ..? It's a 8-bit SMS because it has to set the UDH data, where the receiving port is defined. 2. Can kannel be used as mms proxy-relay (wap-gateway) to get/fetch the mms-messages? yep, it can. Or I should say it will. The main problem is that Kannel lacks currently the WTP-SAR (segmenation and re-assembly) functionality to segment large WTP connections. In germany, vodafones mms proxy-relay can fetch all urls in the www, but t-mobile's mms proxy-relay only fetch urls on their own servers :-( Hmmm, that's not nice by T-Mobile :) 3. Where can mms-messages be stored? On a simple webserver? the HTTP server is again only a transport/gateway. Basically you need an application server that does the MMS related encoding/decoding and processing. If I make a mms, I will have for example four files: smil-file, txt-file with my texts, jpg with my image, and xml-file with title of the mms. But the client/mms-proxy will send the request to one url. Does those have to refer URL to a script, which convert/is prepared the files and spent in a certain format? yep, the application logic (the MMS Server) has to be behind HTTP server. kannel mms?
Hi, Im a newbie in mms. At this time I only send shortmessages (like ota, ems, text-messages) with my own gsm-modems and linux-system. Now I want to send mms-messages and use kannel. This is the proceeding of sending mms-messages, which I understood: First a SMS (or two) with WAP-URL of the mms-message, priority, date, sender, ccs and bccs will be send to the mms-client (receiver). The receiver press view on his mobile phone and it will connect to the mms proxy-relay (wap-gateway) to get/fetch the mms-message. I hope its correct, because I have three questions to this proceeding an using kannel: 1. The frist SMS with informations, like url, priority, date, sender, ... of the mms-message (M-Send.conf), where can I read more about the specifications how this sms looks, is it a text- or 8-bit-sms, ..? 2. Can kannel be used as mms proxy-relay (wap-gateway) to get/fetch the mms-messages? In germany, vodafones mms proxy-relay can fetch all urls in the www, but t-mobile's mms proxy-relay only fetch urls on their own servers :-( 3. Where can mms-messages be stored? wapbox does panic and stop because of an failing assertion at gwlib/parse.c:44:parse_error() there the given context is NULL and hence the assertion happens. I haven't seen this using the Nokia 7650 for manual WSP downloads. Can you provide us more information on this issue? Re: MMS Task Force
wapbox has a thread that implements the PPG (push proxy gateway). When the MMS Server want's to indicate a phone that it should fetch a waiting MMS message it sends a MMS notification request to the PPG and the PPG encodes this into a WAP Push message via SMS as bearer to the phone. Aarno, is definetly working on getting the PPG doing a clean MMS notification support. Maybe he can comment if it works now. I have seen some previous threads on the list concerning this. Re: MMS Task Force
Basically we need to get the following TODOs done to have full MMS support (without the MMS Server logic). * wapbox's PPG should be able to receive MMS notification requests from the MMS server and encode those correct to an SMS and send it via a connected SMSC. * wapbox needs to support SAR (segmenation and reassembly) in WTP layer to allow transfering large objects that need to be segmented. We here at Wapme have a SAR patch for that and are currently still in testing phase. If someone other has done this too, please post to the list. Wapme will share the code as soon as we feel confortable with it. * wapbox currently has some problems in transfering large objects via WAP (does not have anything to do with the SAR thing). If a handset, like the Nokia 7650 or the Ericsson T68 request larger objects, like a 60 kb .gif i.e., wapbox runs into timeouts and the 7650 does at least sometimes receive the whole object and the T68 currently does not :(( Aarno should be investigating the last issue already, but if someone can assist this would be perfect. Anyone arround who has experience with the WAP stack internals?! From this point of view adding complete support for SAR is one of the current blocks and we have a good start in this area with the recent submissions. Testing is obviously needed here and access to the amount of software/hardware you have would be great. Potentially I would also suggest a seperate cvs branch which can be developed on without breaking the rest of the functionality. As most of us here use the cvs version of Kannel as staging (or often as live), I'd like to make sure that the changes don't stop the bug fixes. I agree here. It was the way forward I see too. The branch also allows the group to experiment more. Stipe - any thoughts? Some time ago he mentioned he would be on vacation. That could be now, since he mostly reacts quickly. Re: MMS Task Force
Pardon my ignorance, but what is MM7? I assume it is some method of encoding objects such as SMS messages or other? Regardless, you should think long and hard with respect to the use of SMTP as a common transport. I'm working on a project here where we intend to link email, SMS, IM, and other applications together through a common framework. SMTP is being considered, however it is not without it's drawbacks. As far as the protocol itself, there are no issues here - it has to do with the way most MTA's are designed (including ours). Most MTA's will attempt immediate delivery of a message once received, assuming they are configured to do so, but most also have backoff algorithms built in to throttle back when the loads get high. A propogation delay of a couple of minutes, or say 5 - 10 is not unreasonable in this environment. In addition,MTA's are basically store and forward systems, and most will cache to disk (queue) messages upon receipt, and then remove when transfer is complete. In highly loaded systems this places disk i/o high on the list of system bottlenecks. If you are trying to build real time applications on top of this infrastructure, depending on loads and your architecuture, this could pose problems. While a 5 minute delay in getting an email message is not a big deal, a5 minute delay in the propogation of an IM message is. As a side issue, depending on the application, it may not be possible to encode information properly for transport via SMTP - IM presence information is one such example. Re: Testing MMS Push
And how should I use test_ppg for this ? What if I directly send the hex dump using /cgi-bin/sendsms ? if you encode the content correctly that is send to sendsms via text and udh parameters it will arrive as if you use an PPG for sending the notification. When the phone gets a notification, it starts the fetch. To get content, you must implement other MMSC features. I was also wondering if the content type is set correctly, it starts off as 'bc' at the top of the message but becomes 'be' towarsd the end. Be is rigth. You must set Expiry to some future date. A
Open MMS Gateway
Hi, I saw on mailing list the other day about setting up an open MM-SC to avoid the monthly costs of MMS. I am in a position now where one of my clients may wish to do this. I know it is not overly a development issue but you guys are the ones in the know. I have significant bandwidth, large Linux clusters and high SMS badwidth (one of the largest in Europe) If you think it is a go then please give me some pointers. I am all up for opening this channel up and removing monthly costs. S
Re: MMS problems
Charles Burgoyne kirjoittaa maanantaina, 22. heinäkuuta 2002, kello 19:43:Hi, If any kind person out there could put me out of my misery then I would be most grateful (I'm probably being an idiot here). I have setup kannel to perform as a WAP gateway as well as a SMS gateway. PAP works fine as I have been able to send both si, as well as sl documents. I am now trying to send a MMS (just the header) to a phone. This is where I'm running in to problems. Now I know kannel does not fully support MMS, however from reading the devel list it appears people have had success at sending MMS Notification messages. I am currently using: kannel 1.2.0 libxml 2.4.23 Now I have tried to use test_ppg to send a text version of the MMS header (below): Content-Type: application/vnd.wap.message X-MMS-Message-Type: m-notification-ind X-MMS-Transaction-Id: 125 X-MMS-Version: 1.0 X-MMS-Message-Class: personal X-MMS-Message-Size: 100 X-MMS-Expiry: 256; type=relative X-MMS-Content-Location: http://tribe.hn.org/test.php3 Subject: MMS message However when that failed, I assumed that test_ppg does not support the encoding of MMS messages, is that correct? Yes. MMSC does tokenization of MMS headers. After that I swiped the raw message block from: http://www.mail-archive.com/devel@kannel.3glab.org/msg04208.html Which is: 84bc 8c82 9831323500 8d90 8a80 8e0164 880481020100 83yout URI00 Absolute expiry time, set in future, worked for (when I send a binary SM to the phone). Kannel should support this, too. and have tried to send that to a phone with no success either. I have also tried playing with the content and application settings on test_ppg to no avail. If anybody could help and tell me what is wrong, possibly with correct document and command line options that I can throw at test_ppg I would be eternally grateful, thanks in advance. Hi, I have a question about MMS sending through WAP gw. MMS user agent originates an MM by sending a M-Send-req to the MMS Proxy/Relay by use of a WSP/HTTP POST. Ok, MMS Proxy/Relay get this request. My question is: how to send M-Send-conf. How must I encode MMS headers? -- Vjacheslav Chekushinmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Latvian Mobile Phone Companyhttp://www.lmt.lv
RE: MMS problems
Thanks to everyone who has replied so far! Just to clarify some points. The files that I'm using are: ---pap.txt--- ?xml version=1.0? !DOCTYPE pap PUBLIC -//WAPFORUM//DTD PAP 1.0//EN http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/pap_1.0.dtd; pap push-message push-id=[EMAIL PROTECTED] source-reference=ents24 address address-value=[EMAIL PROTECTED] / quality-of-service priority=high delivery-method=unconfirmed/ /push-message /pap ---pap.txt--- ---mms.txt--- X-MMS-Message-Type: m-notification-ind X-MMS-Transaction-ID: 125 X-MMS-MMS-Version: 1.0 X-MMS-Message-Class: personal X-MMS-Message-Size: 100 X-MMS-Expiry: 256; type=relative X-MMS-Content-Location: http://styx.ents24.com/test.php3 Subject: hello ---mms.txt--- Executing test_ppg thus: ./test_ppg http://localhost:13007/wappush?username=password= -a mms -c mms mms.txt pap.txt The pap file is one that I have successfully used to send si/sl documents to a phone. In mms.txt I have used not only X-MMS-MMS-Version, but also X-MMS-Version (there seems to be some confusion about that). The phone that I am trying to send this to is an Sony Ericsson T68i, through an HTTP SMS gateway that supports UDH. If I try to send this message, test_ppg comes back with a bad message response code=2000 which seems to be related to the Content-Location line. This is because if that is removed then the message goes through (response code 1001) and a message is sent to the HTTP SMS gateway. Of course this breaks the MMS spec. and no message is actually recieved on the phone (probably should say indicated as recieved). I have also tried replacing the hard coded message built in to test_ppg with these files, plus the obvious seperators and: Content-Type: application/vnd.wap.messsage For the MMS type. This seems to work, I get another 1001 response code, but still no MMS notification at the phone. Any ideas? Thanks, Charles
Re: MMS problems
However when that failed, I assumed that test_ppg does not support the encoding of MMS messages, is that correct? Yes. MMSC does tokenization of MMS headers. So Aarno means it's not in the scope of test_ppg to tokenize your MMS headers, you have to pass it on your own. RE: MMS problems
Thanks to Stripe, Enzo and Aarno for replies so far, but I am still out of luck. I have decided to try and attack this one from another angle as I was getting nowhere fast with test_ppg. What I was wonder was if anybody had successfully used the pdu: Text part: 0f 06 0d be 96 7f 00 a9 7f 00 af 84 8d c1 b4 80 3f 3f 3f 39 39 39 39 40 66 6c 79 65 72 6f 6e 65 2e 63 6f 6d 00 3f 90 3f 3f 3f 01 64 3f 06 3f 04 3d 2b 2f 4a 3f 68 74 74 70 3a 2f 2f 77 77 77 2e 66 6c 79 65 72 6f 6e 65 2e 63 6f 6d 2f 00 3f be udh: 06 05 04 0b 84 23 f0 From: http://www.mail-archive.com/devel@kannel.3glab.org/msg04209.html I tried sending that to a T68i using the sendsms interface, and still no MMS shows up on the phone. I was also wondering if the content type is set correctly, it starts off as 'bc' at the top of the message but becomes 'be' towarsd the end. Cheers, Charles

In mms.txt I have used not only X-MMS-MMS-Version, but also X-MMS-Version (there seems to be some confusion about that). Wait. The text version is only for human readers. You should not send it to the phone. The MMS content to be send to the phone is tokenized. If I try to send this message, test_ppg comes back with a bad message response code=2000 which seems to be related to the Content-Location line. Can you send wapbox logs. I would like to know what ppg believes it is doing. Content-Type: application/vnd.wap.messsage This should be application/vnd.wap.mms-message. (Use this as a content type for push multipart content part.) For the MMS type. This seems to work, I get another 1001 response code, but still no MMS notification at the phone. Any ideas? In addition, it is probably better to use absolute expiry time. Problem with relative is that to which it is relative. A

MMS problems
Hi, If any kind person out there could put me out of my misery then I would be most grateful (I'm probably being an idiot here). After that I swiped the raw message block from: http://www.mail-archive.com/devel@kannel.3glab.org/msg04208.html Which is: 84bc 8c82 9831323500 8d90 8a80 8e0164 880481020100 83yout URI00 and have tried to send that to a phone with no success either. I have also tried playing with the content and application settings on test_ppg to no avail. If anybody could help and tell me what is wrong, possibly with correct document and command line options that I can throw at test_ppg I would be eternally grateful, thanks in advance. C Burgoyne.
Sending MMS with kannel ...
Hi, I've just subscribed this mailing-list, so, what I have to ask could be in previous posts. I want to send MMS from Kannel to compliant MMS phones. I have a look to MMS specifications, so it seems there are 2 ways: a) M-send.request: sending MMS to MMSC Relay/server b) M-notification.ind: sending directly MMS to phone What's the best way? Is b) way correct? Case a) I suppose I must have a link to operator MMSC ... how can I use/configure kannel to communicate with operator MMSC ? Is this way for mobile users only or can I use kannel to communicate with operator MMSC? Case b) Are there any interoperability problems? I have found an example here: http://www.mail-archive.com/users@kannel.3glab.org/msg00972.html Is that correct? Does it work? Are there any mms-related news from may 7, 2002? A bit confused ... Enzo

But does operators let you in, is another matter. Case b) Are there any interoperability problems? No, because all phones must understand notification, otherwise they do not fetch the message from the center. I have found an example here: http://www.mail-archive.com/users@kannel.3glab.org/msg00972.html This should work (have tested it). A

Should I wait for the stable release 1.2.0 ? 3). What all is required to set up such an environment ? 4). Has anybody tested MMS applications with Kannel ? I will start (after some bug corrections) work on this. I mean, making Kannel PPG and WAP gateway able to work with MMS centers. It is nice ti have testers ;) I think 1.2.0 will happen very soon, and without MMS support (there is vote on it now). Aarno
