The first time I ran this in Tel Aviv there were about 30 people. That

It is a mix of short lectures and hands-on in pairs. So we'd need
tables and wifi. People need to bring their own computer.

We can use Hamakor's social networks channels for advertisement, any

We have a suitable class room at the Technion (at the Industry and
Engineering faculty).

I'll check if they're willing to host it.

WiFi isn't a problem. Any attendee who is a student anyware can use the

We can use Doodle[1] to get an idea of how many will actually attend .

While this was true in the past, in the past couple of months we have been
trying to focus more on new comers.
As part of this effort, we are now actively looking for mentors who are
active open source contributors and can guide new contributors.
We are open to feedback on how we can make new comers more welcome and
on-board them better.

That was not clear to me from the description.
In any case that reminds me, if I were the one organizing it, I'd probably
just remove those nasty comments from the announcement page or I'd use them
as an opportunity to point out that man are also welcome. Maybe not those

Last time I checked, I'm not a woman (:

I can and will include the link to that event in my announcement to the

The events are targeted for women, but are not "women only".

The emphasis in the workshops I organize is cooperation, mutual help, and

Sounds like great values to work for / with. Let's schedule you a talk for
one of the next meetings.

Hi Tomer and all,

I am mostly aware of the HackNights. The one I attended was not geared
towards new contributors. I was not aware of other types of meetings.

I also see the "Women do Open Source" event Lior runs. I don't know how
could I cooperate with that given that I am not a woman.
Any suggestions?
I can and will include the link to that event in my announcement to the
Code-Mavens in case some of the members prefer a women only event.

The emphasis in the workshops I organize is cooperation, mutual help, and
empathy towards the other participants. We work in pairs, triples,
sometimes even more. Our events are gender neutral.

regards
Gabor

Hi Gabor,

Thank you for the invitation! Helping more people get started with Open
Source is always great.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but we (Hamakor) have been running similar
meetups over the past couple of years - https://www.meetup.com/Open-
Source-and-Free-Software-in-Israel/.
We would be happy to cooperate with you in the future and work together to
increase involvement in Open Source.
