Re: [Dx4win] Problem saving new QSOs

2024-05-02 Thread k7acz
I would suggest going to FILE>SAVE AS and see what opens showing where your dxl
file is stored. It should show your SAVE file. I once saved my dxl file to a
thumb drive for a safety back up before going on a trip. After my trip I had a
situation like yours because the program was looking for the thumb drive. Once
I selected my SAVE drive the program was able to find my dxl file and opened
normally.

Hi Dick,

It sounds like a file permission problem. Try using "Save As" and give the
file a different name.

[Dx4win] 2023 CQ DX Marathon

2024-01-03 Thread k7acz
Thanks again to Jim AD1C for his ver 2023 23.2 conversion app for
submissions for the CQ DX Marathon. Not only does it provide a smooth
flow of data from my DX4WIN log to the scoresheet it also seeks out
contacts that are confirmed for the entry to prevent busted calls or
pirates. It even caught a mistake I made logging an QSO in my log
where my band entry did not match the frequency I entered.

Also, IF you are NOT a XML subscriber you can link the F3 key to get
op/QSL information to the Flying Horse CD which I have installed on my

Hitting JUST F3.when in the QSO window, brings up the pop-up (with
the information on the current showing callsignIFyou are an
XML subscriber on QRZ).

Hitting ALT F3 .will do ALL the following: Open your default
browser (if it isn't already open), bring up the QRZ
websiteANDtake you to the QRZ page of the callsign in the QSO
window when you hit this combination.

Of course, for ALL of these things to happen in this detail listed
above
assumes:

1. You're a QRZ XML subscriber
2. You have it configured correctly in the File>Preferences>Ext Data
windowunder "Online Callsign Lookup" down at the bottom of that
window.
MANY have had issues with getting that config correct. It goes like
this:

*Under Online Callsign Lookup*

*Enabled* is *checked *(of course, it has to be on) *Initial Callsign
Lookup Address* - http://xmldata.qrz
.com/xml/current/?username=[USERNAME];password=[PASSWORD];agent=[PROGR
AM]
*Callsign Lookup Address* - http://xmldata.qrz
.com/xml/current/?s=[SESSIONID];callsign=[CALLSIGN]
*User Info* - (enter *YOUR callsign* that you use to log onto QRZ)
*Password *- (enter *YOUR password* you use to log onto QRZ)

Re: [Dx4win] Two log books simultaneously?

2023-03-11 Thread k7acz
Yes, I use group numbers for such situations. I assign a new group number for
each contest log I import using Jim AD1C excellent ADIF2DXQ program. Besides
contests I also have long entries for my previous call K6ACZ and N7V when I
operated on Coast Guard day as a Coast Guard AUX Comm Sta. With the SAME CALL
widow open when you enter a call into the log CALLSIGN window all past contacts
you have had with the station will show in the SAME CALL window. In the GROUP
NAME column it will show how the call was previously logged, such as 2023 ARRL
DX Contest or N7V USCG AUX. There will be a separate line for each previous
contact.

The Group is the highest feature in the DX4WIN, I've used it ever since the

Hello Steve,

I use the callsign Lookup (F3) feature on QRZ regularly when sending out QSL
cards. Typing F3 opens up a small window with the station's name and address.
Copy and paste the address into a label or envelope printing program (I use MS
Word). Personally, I find QRZ to be a very useful tool and think it is well
worth the subscription price.

I see that QRZ.com has a $30 or so subscription to meld its data with some
logging programs. Does it work with DX4WIN? If so, what details do you see
and how do you turn it on when needed? Is it successful in its application for
the QRZ.com yearly fee?

Re: [Dx4win] Program to write a comment in the Adif Comment Fields

2023-02-18 Thread k7acz
Jim AD1C excellent program adif2dxq found at
https://ad1c.us/dx4win/adif2dxq/ will do that. One of the options is a
QSO NOTE window where you can place the note you desire. It also
allows you to assign a group number so when the Q's are added to the
log they will have a group such as 2023 ARRL CW or 2022 CQWWDXCW. I do
this when I upload a WRITELOG ADIF file to DX4WIN after a contest.

When I import logs from a contest or POA in an adif format, I like to
add a comment that notes the event. I have a new computer and
misplaced an older program that allowed you to do this on a file
versus adding them individually.

I am hoping someone know were I can locate this file again?

Re: [Dx4win] Printing labels for newly received Bureau QSL cards.

2023-01-28 Thread k7acz
Maybe not the best way to do it but when I have that situation I go to
the QSO's that I want to print and place a note in the NOTES FOR THIS
QSO such as Rcvd from BURO 1/2/23. You only need to type this once,
then use CTL+C to copy the note to the rest of the QSL's you want to
print. So what you are doing is to find the QSL's to print (one by
one), In the label box place Y, place BURO in the method box, the do
the CTL+C to put your note in the NOTES FOR THIS QSO box. Then do a F8
search for this note you made (in this example Rcvd from BURO 1/2/23).
The search will only find the QSO's you marked as Rcvd from BURO
1/2/23 and you can now print only those QSL's in question. You also
have a notation of when and how you received the incoming QSL that you
did not have before.
