[Dx4win] transfer from Xp to W7

2017-04-12 Thread David Gould
As a short term measure I want to transfer my DX4WIN V7 from my Xp
machine to a W7 machine. (I will then do the upgrade to V8 a little later)

I think I have seen that I can just copy the whole folder from one
machine to the other, is this correct or does it not apply if changing
from Xp to W7?

In Xp the folder is in c:Program Files
In W7 there are two folders.. Program Files and Program Files (x86)
which folder do I use?

2017-04-12 Thread John, K9EL
Program Files is for 64 bit programs.
Program Files (x86) is for 32 bit programs.

I would suggest a new install and it will install in the 32 bit folder.

Do not use *either* for DX4WIN. Windows 7 and beyond place much more
stringent protections on these directories. You may find that you
will be unable to save your log and/or update data files.

Install it as C:\DX4W7## (the path suggested by 8.05) or some other
partition in your system, but do *not* install under Program Files.

In fact, you do not really even need to install it, because DX4WIN
does not use the Windows registry. Just copy your entire DX4W7##
directory (including all subdirectories) from the XP machine to the
Win7 machine. You can do this with a USB flash drive. Then simply
create a shortcut on your desktop to run "dx4win.exe" in the new
target directory.

[Dx4win] logging window

2017-04-12 Thread Dick NY1E
I've gotten used to the fact that DX4WIN isn't going to connect to my newer
radio, but when entering contacts it would be nice if it would stay on my band
instead of jumping to a packet spots band. Can I get the logging window to
ignore the packet spots?de Dick NY1E

Re: [Dx4win] transfer from Xp to W7

2017-04-12 Thread David Gould

Thanks to Jim and others for the help.

I have now installed V7 on my second hard drive, by copying the complete
folder, where it opened OK except for the file that is needed for using
the LPT port (which I don't need).

I had noticed that my install of V8 is in C:\ so I was going to ask
about that, but Jim has given me the answer before I asked it!
Now I just need to plan the upgrade to V8.. I have rather a mess of
text comments in the notes for this call and notes for this QSO, so I
think I am going to have some "fun" rationalising these..

Again, thank for the help.

[Dx4win] Can not get DX spots to talk to radio

2017-04-12 Thread Steve Barber
I am not able to get the DX4WIN program to transfer the spot frequency to my
Icom 7600.  I changed from a windows XP computer that was working fine but the
frequency that is displayed on the Icom 7600 always shows up in the program's
frequency window.  I turned the CIV Translate off to no avail.  Any suggestions
are appreciated.  Thanks, Steve - WA4B

Re: [Dx4win] Can not get DX spots to talk to radio

2017-04-12 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK

Hi Steve,

Can you provide more details about the new configuration? It sounds like
D4W is seeing the frequency information so however you've got it hooked
up at least it's able to read that.. Are you using the USB adapter for
CI-V control? Assuming so since you said you turned translate (I think
you meant transceive) off. Did you install the USB drivers before you
connected? The documentation warns about doing that, but I don't know
specifically what happens if you connect without the drivers being in
place first.

I guess the other things to check would be to make sure that when you
transferred over to the new computer that the setup in Preferences for
the radio match what you've got configured, in particular the port and
baud rate settings. (Although if you're getting frequency information,
it would seem less likely that's an issue.)
