On Thursday, February 09, 2012 12:10:16 PM Thomas Powderly did opine: haha is Sears really one of the cheapest sources for D525MW? tomp Don't know. I got mine, in an overgrown shoebox case, with a 2gb single laptop style dram, power supply, 250Gb sata hard drive and a dvd writer, keyboard mouse plus a skype headset I haven't tested, from a place in Texas, shipping and all, $246 on my front porch. I declined the assembly charge as I figured I was capable, but when I opened the nice, obviously custom fitted box, it was already assembled, all I had to do was power it up, plug in a network cable, install from the 10.04 install cd I can download from linuxcnc.org, reboot, fire up synaptic let it upgrade from the repo's which on my 3mb bandwidth was about a half hour or so. I have since changed the network profile from a dchp obtained address to one hard coded on my local network, a 5 minute job. http://www.directron.com/extremevalue.html will get you there. Its a good deal I think, for a complete, ready to rock roll system. Cheers, Gene -- There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. I strongly suspect a voltage monitor to be too strict (or something similar, that lock the board instead of rebooting it). I got problem mostly when I do power off / power on when it was working for hours, several times I got a powered mainboard (fan working, LAN LED blicking), but nothing else, no boot, not anythings. Had to make a reset, or simply wait for a short while in power off state. just for fun: check powersupply cable check power connectors onto the board check harddrive power connectors check memory connectors check cpu connector. for check read: apply contactcleaner (not the lubricating type) liberally and plug in and out a few times. otherwise this might be your harddrives' way of telling you: Please replace me! or perhaps the motherboard itself of course enjoy. j. The D510MO was discontinued by Intel. I'd go with the Intel MW525 board instead. You can buy them from almost everyone and they work well with LinuxCNC. Plus they have a real DB25 LPT port! :-) They take laptop memory instead of desktop memory sticks but that has been cheaper the last time I purchased some a month ago or so. The D510MO was a bit of an oddball and it seemed like it was in production for only a short period of time. I have one, but I sure wouldn't go looking for another one with the MW525s around. And, I'll third the MW525 motherboard. Remember to turn off hyper-threading in the bios, though. It is my first linuxcnc machine, and the install (with gecko g540) went incredibly well. I think that the memory i purchased was something like $14.99 or so for each 2meg module; I could be wrong, but I maxed out the RAM, and was very pleasantly surprised to have it come out so inexpensively. I do have a real drive, though! JohnS. On 2012-02-08, at 3:49 PM, doug metzler wrote: I second the D525MW - Used it on my last build with a solid state drive. Very nice.
