Don't know. I got mine, in an overgrown shoebox case, with a 2gb single
laptop style dram, power supply, 250Gb sata hard drive and a dvd writer,
keyboard mouse plus a skype headset I haven't tested, from a place in
Texas, shipping and all, $246 on my front porch. I declined the assembly
charge as I figured I was capable, but when I opened the nice, obviously
custom fitted box, it was already assembled, all I had to do was power it
up, plug in a network cable, install from the 10.04 install cd I can
download from linuxcnc.org, reboot, fire up synaptic let it upgrade from
the repo's which on my 3mb bandwidth was about a half hour or so. I have
since changed the network profile from a dchp obtained address to one hard
coded on my local network, a 5 minute job.

http://www.directron.com/extremevalue.html will get you there. Its a
good deal I think, for a complete, ready to rock roll system.

I have similar problem (randomly) on D945GCL. I strongly suspect a

not anythings. Had to make a reset, or simply wait for a short while in
power off state. I got these problem only when working with small ITX

just for fun:
check powersupply cable
check power connectors onto the board
check harddrive power connectors
check memory connectors
check cpu connector.

for check read: apply contactcleaner (not the lubricating type) liberally
and plug in and out a few times.

otherwise this might be your harddrives' way of telling you: Please replace

or perhaps the motherboard itself of course

The D510MO was discontinued by Intel.

I'd go with the Intel MW525 board instead. You can buy them from almost
everyone and they work well with LinuxCNC.

Plus they have a real DB25 LPT port! :-)

They take laptop memory instead of desktop memory sticks but that has
been cheaper the last time I purchased some a month ago or so.

The D510MO was a bit of an oddball and it seemed like it was in
production for only a short period of time.

I have one, but I sure wouldn't go looking for another one with the
MW525s around.

And, I'll third the MW525 motherboard.

Remember to turn off hyper-threading in the bios, though.

It is my first linuxcnc machine, and the install (with gecko g540) went
incredibly well.

I think that the memory i purchased was something like $14.99 or so for each
2meg module; I could be wrong, but I maxed out the RAM, and was very pleasantly
surprised to have it come out so inexpensively.

I do have a real drive, though!

Re: [Emc-users] Is the Intel D510M0 Processor still a good choice for a new EMC2 application?

Thanks All;
The D525MW wins.

 I didn't realize that.

Thanks for correcting the 525 board number, I didn't realize I had mangled
 the number.

I believe the D510 chipset is now obsolete. The new Intel board is the
 D525MW,
it has a better (2 core) CPU and as Dave mentions, a 25-pin parallel port
connector on the back panel instead of just a 26-pin IDC header.
It uses 204-pin memory instead of the older 240-pin, that one caught me
 by surprise.

The D510 was actually out for several years, but it was only very late
 in the
game that the EMC crowd noticed them and determined they were very
 suitable.

If you want to surf the internet on your CNC mill then maybe something else
 would be better.

With the 8GB SSD that is exactly the components in my Mill controller.
Due to me getting distracted from that conversion by EMC2 development
it has also been used for the last year or so as the build/dev
platform and it has been perfectly adequate for that too.

The idea that there is no such thing as objective truth is, quite simply, wrong.
