Re: [Fink-users] Easy way to cleaning out old .deb?

2003-01-12 Thread Peter O'Gorman
There is a (not yet documented) fink cleanup command too for debs built
locally.

'fink cleanup'
Will remove any debs not at the latest version from /sw/fink/dists

You're looking at doing either:
'sudo apt-get clean' which will remove everything in
/sw/var/cache/apt/archives

or

'sudo apt-get autoclean' which will remove packages not deemed
necessary, but will not delete the latest (currently applied) package.

2003-01-12 Thread William Scott
Hi Martin:

Thanks. Yes, I get the warning -- didn't look at the console.log

As a work-around, I found adding a logout script using the logout hook
to delete these files into /etc/ttys did the trick.

The permissions on /tmp etc are as yours.

For now everything works.

Many thanks.

You don't get the following during X startup?

Operating System: Darwin OSVendor

_XSERVTransmkdir: Owner of /tmp/.X11-unix should be set to root
PseudoramiX screen 0 added: 800x600 @ (0,0).

This is from console.log when I click on the X11.app icon in the dock.
I always get these when the owner in question is not root. But this is
really not important, except that it would show that your
configuration is somehow different.

I've also managed to reproduce this on 3 computers. All have in
common a prior XonX installation and OroborOS X window manager, other
than that probably nothing that is non-canonical.

Maybe you have weird permissions on /tmp/? What does ls -la /tmp/
give? And ls -la /private? I get

I can't help with the crash, I don't get it myself. I can run an Xemacs

X11 . But then I remember that not long ago I had mysterious XEmacs

As to xemacs' config.log output (regarding the Athena widgets), here's
what I get:

Here, OTOH, I see now what is going on, and it is not nice. It means
basically that if you want to compile any application that uses X11, you
have to start from zero, i.e. you first have to recompile any library
that links to anything in /usr/X11R6/lib.

In individual cases, you can perhaps get away with recompiling *some*
libraries. For XEmacs, if you first fink rebuild xaw3d, you will at
least be able to finish the configure script and start compiling.
Whether it works afterwards, I don't yet know. But it would be good if
you could try and find out.

This will pose a serious problem for Fink. We will have to discuss this
with the other Fink developers.

Unfortunately, there are not only warnings, but actual errors about

Oh, good. (I use the CVS version of fink, not the binary dist.)

I found that it doesn't touch /sw/fink/10.1 (/sw/fink/dists points to
10.2). Can I do rm -rf on /sw/fink/10.1 if I run Jaguar and does not
intend to downgrade?

In that case, all those dangling symlinks in /sw/fink/debs that will
occur then, is there some easy way of getting rid of them? Or do a rm
of all and then generate the proper links?

[Fink-users] Bash and WindowMaker on Apple's X11

2003-01-12 Thread Gary Olson
First I want to thank the developer's at Fink. I have Fink up and
running on Jaguar and Apple's X11, and I really did not have much
trouble. I do have a couple of questions that I hope someone in the
mailing list can answer.

1) I have WindowMaker running with Apple's X11, but I cannot right
click and get wmaker's Application Menu. Everything else in wmaker
seems to work fine. Has anyone else had this problem since they
switched to Apple's X11? X11's Application Menu works just fine, but
there are quite a few more things on the wmaker Application Menu
besides applications. My .xintrc file has the following:

source /sw/bin/init.sh
exec wmaker

2) I tried to set up bash. I downloaded Fink's bash package and
installed it. I then followed the directions in the README file for
setting up config files, but I can not get the Terminal app to change
to bash. Also, I can not get chsh to work from the command line either
in Terminal.app or in xterm or rxvt when running the X11 server. I
tried changing the Terminal preferences from executing the
/usr/bin/login to /sw/bin/bash or /sw/bin/init.sh, but neither did
anything but hang the Terminal.app. Does anyone have an idea what I
might need to do?

I have following line in ~/.bash_profile : source ~/.bashrc

I have following lines in ~/.bashrc :

source /sw/share/init/bash/rc
source /sw/bin/init.sh

export

So, do you want to get bash to be your login shell, right? If so, the
rigth way to go is edit your user profile with NetInfo Manger. OS X is
very different on this shell setup.

Caveat: any modification to NetInfo can be UTTERLY FATAL. There is a
great risk to screw up your system instantly. Beware.

Also, I can not get chsh to work from the command line either in
Terminal.app or in xterm or rxvt when running the X11 server.

What do you mean? You can't get it to work even by typing csh?

Are you on 10.2.x? or 10.1.x? On 10.2.x, you have /bin/bash, /bin/zsh,
/bin/csh = /bin/tcsh, and set your Preference to /bin/bash, etc. (But
it seems you need to hit return in the entry of path-to-shell to get
Terminal to recognize the change you made.)

The current version of xfree86-base is 4.2.1.1-4. So, you'll need to
update fink with "fink selfupdate" or "fink selfupdate-cvs" if you're
accessing CVS tree.

I ran fink selfupdate, and it updated some core packages and then I ran "fink update-all" and then when I did a "fink list" the xfree86-base was still listed as 4.2.1.1-3.

Did you try "fink index" already?

Re: [Fink-users] Bash and WindowMaker on Apple's X11

First I want to thank the developer's at Fink. I have Fink up and
running on Jaguar and Apple's X11, and I really did not have much
trouble. I do have a couple of questions that I hope someone in the
mailing list can answer.

1) I have WindowMaker running with Apple's X11, but I cannot right
click and get wmaker's Application Menu. Everything else in wmaker
seems to work fine. Has anyone else had this problem since they
switched to Apple's X11? X11's Application Menu works just fine, but
there are quite a few more things on the wmaker Application Menu
besides applications. My .xintrc file has the following:

source /sw/bin/init.sh
exec wmaker
Works fine here.

My .xinitrc

# For X11
xmodmap -e 'keycode 66 = Mode_switch'
exec xterm -geometry 80x20+34+22 -ls -sb -rightbar -si -sl 1 -j
exec wmaker

Note the +34 and +22 for xterm origins, so that it is not hidden under
the OSX menu bar.
For Application menu I use F12.
The dock is positioned on the left side of the screen, so that it will
not interfere with the OSX dock which is located on the right side. It
is a bit hidden, but you can move it without any problem. One way to do
it is to change the parameters in the config utility in wmaker (second
icon and change the location origin (0, 22 is just fine).

2) I tried to set up bash.

Sorry, I don't use bash

[Fink-users] Re: starting fink

2003-01-12 Thread Gary Elshaw
Well, i managed to fix my own problem by editing the .tcshrc file and
putting fink's path in there.
Yipee! No extra typing!

Cheers,

Are you sure this isn't the xfree86-base-threaded package? This one is
indeed at 4.2.1.1-3.

I get..
/usr/bin/pbxbuild
 PROGRAM:pbxbuild PROJECT:pbxbase-90 DEVELOPER:root
BUILT:03/29/02 15:17:12

Well, I get

martinc% what /usr/bin/pbxbuild
/usr/bin/pbxbuild
PROGRAM:pbxbuild PROJECT:pbxbase-112 DEVELOPER:root
BUILT:12/04/02 20:31:50

So it seems that your Developer Tools, at least the ProjectBuilder part,
are way too old. You need at least the July2002 tools with the
August2002 update, and for OSX 10.2.3 you better use the Dec2002 tools.
