Re: [Audyssey] issue when using the view command in mota

2009-02-26 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi all,

I did indeed see a similar issue but, after I put Jaws For Windows to sleep,
I did not have any problems. However, I've only played the game for 15
minutes so will continue testing.

Hi,
Hmm... I'll have to look into that further. Perhaps just a little CPU
intensive for some systems. I'll need system specs for those having problems
to see if this is a hardware related thing or a software related thing.

2009-02-26 Thread Kai

Greetings Thom et al.

I've also detected hang-ups here, but not necessarily related to the view
command. It seems to happen when there's a lot for the tts to say, and
therefore, a lot of tts sounds in the buffer?

Specs:
Intel Core 2 e6750 (2.66 GHZ) CPU,
2 GB of PC-6400 RAM
Realtec sound card,
Windows XP Home with SP3

hi michael! i totaly agree with you, it's really awesome you test your
self with all the weapons to know their range and effect against the
enemyes.
for example, in a main stream game, the who is sighted and is playing,
they don't will receive tips wen to fire etc, yea, they can see the
enemy and try to run, and attack in a good time to hit the enemy. it's
the same here, but we can ear the enemy and try to shoot in a good time
comparing with the sound and weapon, to hit him.

Re: [Audyssey] issue when using the view command in mota

2009-02-25 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Thomas,
Instead of changing v, how about control v to look only in the direction you
are facing?
In the GMA engine you can have the function look for any key hit which stops
the view function.

You could also look for a specific key such as alt to stop the function.
I think that would be preferable to a view menu.

Re: [Audyssey] issue when using the view command in mota

2009-02-25 Thread Michael Feir
A targetting scope robs the game of some of its challenge. Learning the
effective range of weapons is a healthy and fare part of what makes a
sidescroller fun. Lets not dumb everything down for the lowest common
dinominator. Same with the torches. Tom's really on the right track with
MOTA.

Hi,
Personally, I say no, but then again we are dealing with the public now,
and lots of people have different views on this.

[Audyssey] issue when using the view command in mota

2009-02-24 Thread alex wallis

hi.
OK when I use the view command in mota quite a lot of the time, the sounds
stop playing in the game for several seconds as if the window loses focus
then they come back.

also, with regards to targeting, I have found quite a lot of the time that
its hard to judge when you can open fire with say the pistol. as you get the
message that there is something nasty near you, but when you go to fire at
it you find your too far away from it. so frequently I have to waste 2 or 3
shots before I can hit whatever it is. this is even when the thing pops up
in the direction I am traveling say I am moving right and the thing is on my
right.

I haven't had the problem with wasting ammo, seems to be that when I walk
into a room the thing is generally close enough to shoot with something,
even the shotgun. There is a bug I've noticed though that seems to be
random, ocasionally the ledge in the first level is a phantom ledge and you
just end up back at the bottom of the rope. Its random for some reason
though, so if you restart the game it'll have a chance to actually let you
land on the ledge again.

I too have had the program stop responding when using the view command. It
usually happens when its trying to detect certain things. In the first room,
for example. If you're standing near the rope, when it tries to tell you
where the stone statue is, it either foregoes direction entirely and just
tells you the distance, or makes the program stop responding for a few
seconds.

I figured out how to reproduce the minimize issue when you press v. You have to
alt+tab out, and then back in, close the inventory menu, then press v. it'll go
out with the sounds and the screen reader will come back to life for a few
seconds, then you'll return to the game again. press v again and it'll behave
properly. Altt+tab back out and back in and press v again and again the game
seems to minimize..

No it is not a Phantom ledge, but if you don't hold the keys down long

If you aren't high enough to reach the ledge the same will happen. It is

2.8 ghz processor, 4 gigs of ram, don't remember my exact sound card, I
think its an Xtreme Gamer Fatality, one of the higher end creatives. Even
have a fairly high end video card for what its worth. Am running vista

And instead of escape to get out of the sound menus, you could use q or x.

Re: [Audyssey] issue when using the view command in mota

2009-02-24 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Technically, i am running Windows 7 beta now on one machine and Windows
Vista on another, but I have confirmed CPU isn't the issue. The problem
is DirectX doesn't release the tab key when Windows wants it when
switching Windows so there is a conflict with that key. The easiest and
most practical solution is to asign the inventory command to something
else like escape and put quit on q. That is likely how i will end up
solving this problem in the patch I am working on right now. If you have
a desired key suggestion for inventory let me know and I'll consider it.

 Hi,
No it is not a Phantom ledge, but if you don't hold the keys down long
enough Angela will fall short of the ledge and fall back to the floor.
If you aren't high enough to reach the ledge the same will happen. It
is tricky and all I can say is it takes practice to get it right.

Actually, your suggestion works tom, you just have to hold the jump key down
longer and it doesn't hurt to be a little higher than the ledge. I was only
having trouble because I didn't know you could hold the jump key down for a
slightly longer jump. Then again I didn't exactly read over the docs
thoroughly either.

The i key is hard coded into the Genesis Engine as an alternative up
