Well, Prashant gave you the right instructions for
fixing the linking
problem. Now, the problem lies somewhere in your code.
What output was it
supposed to give? To where? You did not include any
source code, and our
crystal balls are currently in for repair. In any
case, I doubt anyone
would be willing to wade through mountains of your
code, so try running
your code in a debugger yourself, or at least narrow
it down to a few lines
that can be posted. Ask specific questions, rather
than of the sort My

I have a APC ups with USB. So I am wondering wether I can use it in linux.
Currently the daemon starts but cant talk to the UPS inspite of me following
the HOWTO. Any tips of pointers?

The file to be edited is apcupsd.conf
Three issues that need to be edited in this very well commented file
UPS Type - smart or backup
Cable type - See your cable and check if the number exists in the
commented area. If it does give the number or type of cable
Device - Serial / USB etc etc.

Works perfectly under various flavours of RH/FC/Debian?Ubuntu.

[ilugd] Linux and Laptops -- Help required

2006-01-11 Thread Saurabh Nanda
Hi,

I'm planning to purchase a laptop, which would be my new Linux box. I have a
lot of questions which I am listing below. It would be great if anyone could
help me with them -

o I read some articles about Linux running into troubles with Intel Centrino
based laptops -- especially the WLAN card. Can someone give me a first hand
account?
o Other factors remaining the same, there's a difference of about Rs 10k
between Celeron-M and Centrino based laptops. Is the gain in performance
worth the cost?
o AMD Sempron Mobile or Celerom-M?
o AMD Turion-64 or Centrino?
o Other than the Acer Aspire series, are there any AMD based laptops
available in India?
o From where can one get Lenovo R-Series in India? I couldn't find them on
the website.
o Acer, Compaq, Zenith, Lenovo, Dell -- any first hand experiences wrt
reliability, after-sales support, etc?
o Any specific recommendations or reviews of the laptop(s) that you have
purchased

I've read quite a few opinions online but most of them do not mention the
specific models available in India, or do not address the Linux
compatibility issue at all.

TIA
Nandz.

Depends on your budget. The AMD turion is the most value for money and 64bit
performance is great. I think in india all you will get is Acer if you want
AMD. Sony/lenovo etc., do not sell AMD based notebooks in India region

No trouble with Compaq Presario but it would be better to buy Linux
laptop IAC as you will also save on software cost loading. Most of the
top line vendors today have a Linux version.

IMHO = No

I would stay away from Acer. Look up my previous posts in archives. I
suffered by not getting any support and ultimately having to dump

I'm running ubuntu on my HP centrino laptop. No problems with WLAN.

Not sure but I think there is a significant performance gain incase
you're doing things like video editing, etc. Incase of normal use,
that's 10k down the drain.

I've read quite a few opinions online but most of them do not mention the
specific models available in India, or do not address the Linux
 compatibility issue at all.

I would recommend that you run a live CD on the model before purchasing
just to make sure there isn't any glaring incompatibilities.

Akshay

[ilugd] Configuring Evolution to fetch mails from MS Exchange

2006-01-11 Thread Mayank Jain
Hi,

I'm using FC3 running Evolution 2.0.4
We have MS Exchange at the backend. Using evolution, I'm able to
view/reply to emails that still remain in my virtual folder (mailbox @
the server) BUT am not able to download them locally to my disk.

I've googled found that Ximian Evolution Connector is used for the
same I think its already installed in my Evolution (as i'm
sending/recieving mails). But how do I fetch mails? I found no option
of download mails to local disk in the tools settings ...

Can someone just list the steps on how to do this? This will help me
in shifting my Office PC 100% to GNU/Linux :-)

Probably i'll be the only one in my office doing so :-P
