[JAWS-Users] create desktop item for eset
How/where can I set up a desk top entry item for eset in both win 7 and win 10? The only icon for it is for the special banking browser. Interesting installing it on both the win 7 and win 10 machines is that in both cases it found and removed some junk. --- Please visit my web page It’s motivational, inspirational with a touch of humor There is also a very extensive resource list for the blind http://www.LennyMcHugh.com International Brotherhood of Magicians member #43990 For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] Running J17 Latest & J18 In Default Mode
Howdy Y'all, For those that might not know this, & something I just learned today: If you ever need to run J17 latest version, J17.0.2727, or J18 in default mode you can do this using the Layered Keystrokes feature. Hold down the, Insert / Jaws key, then press the spacebar, to open, Layered Keystrokes, now release both keys, & press the letter, Z. This will put Jaws in default settings mode. This series of keystrokes is a toggle, so invoke them again to go back to running Jaws with your settings. Note: This only works with the latest version of J17 & J18 all versions. This will not work with any J17 versions prior to J17.0.2727. Take care. Mike Sent from my iBarstool. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Short guide for the BARD express program
This has been discussed constantly for days on the BARD Talk list. I really don't understand why everyone is so enamoured of it. People, not me, but others, have been downloading 3 books simultaneously from the BARD site and I've been using the Humanware Companion software to open and transfer zip files of BARD and Bookshare books, several at a time, to an SD card or cartridge for years. One doesn't have to open the Humanware folders to transfer books with the companion software. The books go into the correct folder automatically. I suspect that perhaps the only function that might be slightly easier is actually downloading because you can always hear the percentages. But I haven't tried it so I don't know. I might play around again, now that Jim has provided this lovely screen reader friendly guide. But I, who can barely do anything technilogically, can't figure out why so many people have become so intrigued with this. [JAWS-Users] Solution For Alphabetically Organizing Internet Favorites In Internet Explorer
Hello, everyone. Bill white from the JFW list did a Google search, and sent me the following instructions for alphabetically organizing favorites in Internet Explorer 11. Getting to the set of options is not intuitively obvious, but once I got there, it was easy to do. I have edited the instructions to make them more generic for list posting. I hope they will benefit others. Tom Behler How to Organize Internet Favorites Alphabetically In Internet Explorer Locate one of your individual favorites, then click your Applications key, there will be an option in that context menu which will be labelled "Sort By Name". Re: [JAWS-Users] How To Alphabetically Organize InternetFavorites InInternet Explorer
Howdy All, Another way to access your Favorites folder is through the Owner / name folder, which is found in the Users folder on the root of the C crive. To get to this folder quickly do the followint: 1. Press, Windows key + R, to open the Run dialogue. 2. Type a single period, press enter, &, bam, you're there! If you type in 2 periods, & press enter that'll put you into your Users folder on the C drive. Take care. The critical step in this IE process is to place focus against a favorite. That's where this method has failed me in the past. Thanks for making it clear. To set the favorites into alphabetical order in Internet Explorer, first launch Internet Explorer, then press Alt + A to bring up the favorites, then move the highlight to a favorite, then press the application key (same as a right click), then browse the context menu that pops up and press Enter on the Sort by Name option. Unfortunately you have to do this for each favorites folder and after adding a new favorite, except that when you add a new favorite, you only have to reapply the Sort by Name option on the folder where you saved the new favortite. I do wish Microsoft would allow us to choose a default sort order that is automatically applied so we wouldn't have to keep doing it after adding new favorites. hth Cheers! That only works for the top level of favorites. If you have your favorites organized into folders as I do, then you have to sort each folder as a separate operation. Unlike with the desktop, Microsoft didn't see fit to provide the option of a perpetually enforced sort order for all favorites like they did the desktop and in Windows Explorer. Cheers! I do wish Microsoft would allow us to choose a default sort order that is automatically applied so we wouldn't have to keep doing it after adding new favorites. hth Cheers! I tested Favorites by "clicking" on Organize Favorites near the top of the Favorites list. I selected New Folder and it appeared at the end of the list. Then I hit the letter n a few times to get me to the new folder, hit the Applications key and selected sort by name. My new list nestled right in the N's..I think that when you sort one folder, all in the main level sort. To sort fubdirectories within a main directory just repeat the sort process. I haven't had any alphabetizing issues in years. On 12/28/2016 3:17 PM, Dave wrote: Tom, Still I recommend you go ahead and organize them by name, doing it twice, if the order gets reversed. Use the buttons at the bottom of the book's detail screen to download the title or add/remove it from your Wish List. Select the button, then press the Enter key or the spacebar. To return to the top of the book's detail screen, hit Tab. Another button at the top of the page will allow you to return to the list of titles screen. Advanced View A second way to work with BARD Express is to use the Advanced View. This view presents more information on a title without having to press Enter to get the book details. 1. Navigate the Main menu and open a submenu such as Most Recently Added Books and Magazines the same way as in the Standard View. 2. Choose Log Out if that is your intention or choose Remain Logged In if you wish to remain logged in to your account. The View Menu This menu contains shortcuts to the Main menu and submenus such as Bookshelf, Wish List, and Preferences. From within the View menu, you can select Items Per Page, which lets you choose the number of titles you want BARD Express to display at one time. The View menu also lets you increase or decrease the font size used in lists of titles and book detail pages. At the bottom of the View menu is an item called Column Configuration. Choosing this item allows you to control how much of a book's information displays directly on the list screen or is read by your screen-reading software as you navigate from

In Microsoft Word and in Outlook, the editing functions are quite different. In Office 2010, you can use keystrokes to enter your instructions. For example, ALT+C = Change, ALT+A = ADD TO DICTIONARY, ETC. OFFICE 2016 requires that you tab through the options and use the spacebar to confirm your choice. If you copy text from another source and try to paste it into Microsoft Word, you are asked to choose how the paste is to be handled. You can make permanent changes to this dialog, of course. Other than that, there isn't much difference on the front end. Internally, there are significant changes. Saving a file is no longer as easy as it was in 2010. But, those changes do make it easier to make sure that the file ends up in the right folder. That's all I can think of right now. I'll post again if I think of anything else. VERY IMPORTANT! It is possible to obtain Office 2016 on disk but downloading it from the web is a serious pain in the butt. The easiest way is to create a Microsoft.com identity. If not, there are many security measures which impact screen reader users. I bought a tower Windows 10 desktop and am now considering on whether to get an Office 2010 license key for it which I am currently using on my other systems and am familiar with or if there is any benefit in getting a 2013 or 2016 version. Is there anything in the newer versions of Office, in particular Outlook, Word, Excel that would merit trying one of them out? Learning curve aside, are there any substantial issues or quirks with Jaws and the newer versions of Office. From time to time, I recall threads having to do with this or that Office 2013/2016 and JFW issue, but as it didnt affect me, I didnt pay them much attention. Im running the latest 12/5/17 JFW update. I plan on buying the32 bit version since theres no real advantage of getting the 64 bit one even though the machine will be 64 bit. Re: [JAWS-Users] Using the new BARD express program
It is a new program that a programmer who has a blind wife and daughter wrote for their use and donated to NLS for the use of all, so it became available this month. It simplifies gretly the searching and downloading, is totally accessible and has certain improvements, for instance, to be able to download an entire series at once. You download and install it from the NLS BARD website.
