[JAWS-Users] Adding a new email to a group list in Outlook 2010
Hi Jaws Group. I want to be able to add a new email client to a group email list. When I go to the add members tab Jaws announces the keystroke to get there as alt H M E. So when I hold down the alt + H then press M then E and hit enter nothing happens. I have tried just pressing alt + H then M then E and nothing happens. So does anyone know what I am doing wrong with this key combination of letters using Jaws 18 and Outlook 2010. I also used Omni Page for many years, but gave up when OP Ultimate was released; I found if to be an ultimate failure. I now use Abbyy and while it's a bit clunky in places, I get very good OCR results, particularly with tables, much better than OP as it turns out. Re: [JAWS-Users] Scan Disk Results
Hi Dave! The PE in the name stands for Preinstallation Environment. It is basically a minimal version of Windows that can be run from a CD. The talking part is provided by a preinstalled copy of the NVDA screen reader. With it you can install Windows without needing sighted assistance. It can also be used for some recovery options like running system restore, or restoring a backup image when Windows won't boot. You can get them as ISO files here: http://opopanax.net/download/ Just burn the image to a CD or DVD and you have a bootable talking Windows PE disc. Cheers! I tried this but couldn't find winlogon. hth Cheers! On 1/4/2017 9:58 AM, Gene Warner wrote: Hi Mike! That depends on which drive you are scanning. If it's any drive other than the system drive, you can redirect the output to a file from the command line, like this. chkdsk d: /f>results.txt (the /f parameter tells check disk to fix any errors it finds) If you are trying to scan the system drive, it gets trickier because chkdsk can't be run while Windows is running because it requires exclusive access to the hard drive. You could try creating an autoexec.bat file in your system drive's root directory with the appropriate chkdsk command in it The downside of this approach is that while chkdsk is running, there won't be any screen reader support, so if the system stops for any reason, you'll need sighted help to determine why. For this reason, if I needed to do this, I'd more than likely boot into a talking Windows PE and use that to do the chkdsk on the system drive. hth Cheers! I find that sometimes using Tab or Control+Tab or F6 all do the same thing for navigating, and other times they do not. When I land on most buttons, JAWS announces to use the Space Bar to select, but I find that if it is going to let me select it, I will have to use the Enter key. I thought that when you selected Add to Library from the File Menu iTunes would go out and find any new content, i.e. MP3's on your hard drive and add them to the iTunes folder, and to the iTunes library. This is not happening. I've even tried pasting the new MP3 files in the iTunes folder and then going through what I think are the steps for adding them to the iTunes library, and they still do not show up. I am selecting Add to Library, and then in the dialog box that pops up I am thinking that I am selecting one of the items in the list, and I do hear the iTunes sound that usually indicates it is finished. [JAWS-Users] Problem With Stubborn Messages Staying In Outlook Drafts Folder Solved
Hello. It looks like I have solved my problem with stubborn messages remaining in my Outlook 2016 drafts folder. I went back onto the g-mail web site, and accessed my account there. The HTML view does work much better than the standard view with Jaws. Anyway, I found the drafts folder again, and accessed the discard drafts option. With some sighted assistance, I discovered that you have to individually check each drafts message you wish to delete. I had not done that yesterday, because I didn't realize it was needed. Once I checked each individual message, I was able to end the operation, and the messages were gone. They did not re-appear in my Outlook drafts folder. I hope this helps others who experience the same issue. Thanks to the list members who helped me sort this out. Re: [JAWS-Users] Scan Disk Results
I just tried my autoexec suggestion, it didn't work. So other than the event viewer, or temporarily putting the system drive in another computer as a second drive to run chkdsk on, I believe your best bet is going to be booting from a talking Windows PE disc, then running chkdsk on your system drive. If you need more information about doing this, let me know. Cheers! I wrote them yesterday, and as far as creating playlists, you should be able to do that from your phone as well. These instructions were written for ITunes version 12.5.4.42, using Jaws version 16. Once ITunes has been configured to automatically sync with your phone when connected , follow these steps to move music or ring tones to your phone: Music: NOTE: Make sure that the files you select are not .wav format, While the IPhone will play these files, they are far too large to transfer to the phone since they will rapidly use up available space on the phone. .mp3 would be a better choice,. 1. Select individual songs or an album folder, and copy it to the clipboard. 2. Press enter on your user folder name shortcut on the Desktop. 3. Once in your user folder, locate your Music folder and press enter. 4. From within your Music folder, press the letter I to move to the ITunes folder, then press enter to open it. 5. Press the letter I again to locate the ITunes Media folder, then press enter to open it. 6. The first folder in this list is: Automatically Add to ITunes, so press the spacebar to select the folder, then press enter to open it. 7. Paste your selections from the clipboard here. Note: If pasting individual files, I would make sure that none of the file names are the same or have like track numbers in the file name. 8. Once you have pasted your files here you can close the folder with Alt F4. 9. Now, from the Desktop press enter on the ITunes shortcut, to open the ITunes program. 10. Once ITunes has loaded, plug your phone into your computer, and syncing should begin. When syncing has finished, you should hear a tone. Now check your Music app on your phone to make sure the songs are there. The process for moving ring tones to your phone are the same as above, making sure that the files you are using for ring tones are of the correct format,(.m4r) and no longer than 30 seconds in length. No matter what format your original file is, you will need to convert it to M4A first. To convert files to the proper format, do the following: 1. Open Pazera Free Audio Extractor Portable, and press enter on theAudioExtractor.exe. 2. Next, once the program has opened, press the Alt key, and right arrow to the File List menu, then arrow to "Add files to list", and press enter. 3. This will place you in a standard "Open", dialogue where you can browse for your files. 4. Once you have found your file, or files, then tab to the "OPEN" button and spacebar it. 5. Now, you will be in a dialogue for choosing your output format, and your file or files should be selected, so tab once to choose the format. 6. Arrow to m4a, then press the Alt key to open the menus, and select "convert checked files", from the file menu, and press enter. The conversion process will start, and Jaws should announce the progress. 7. When conversion has completed, you can close the program with Alt F4. 8. Go to the folder where your original file is located and you should find your converted file or files. 9. Once you have located your files, you will need to change the file extension, by doing the following: A. With the file name highlighted, press the F2 key to rename the file. B. Now, move to the end of the file name, and delete the "A", from the end of the file extension, and replace it with the letter "R" and press enter to close the dialogue. Do this for each file you want to use. 10. Finally, use the steps above for moving music to your phone to move your ring tones. You are probably right about autoexec.bat as I've never tried what I suggested. In which case booting into a Windows PE is probably the only way to capture the chkdsk result of a system drive. That is, other than removing the drive and installing it as a second drive in another system. What operating system were these steps written for? Specifically, will they work on Win 10?
