We must all be just happily typing away with no problems to solve. That probably doesn't happen too often although I don't know I am new to the group. RE: [LegacyUG] No messages
I signed up for this list yesterday. Not wishing you all to be bored, I need help with webpage creation. I have created a Descendant page for one of my lines. I chose that type of page because the work has been the collective effort of many different branches of the ancestor born about 1745, and I wanted all of his lines to show up. Now, I'd like to add other lines to my website, also using the Descendant format. Can anyone tell me if that's possible or how to do it? I've never done any HTML coding, and it took me two days to figure out how to update the page using my FTP program. I'm telling you this so you know that I'm not a computer whiz! I'd appreciate any help anyone has to offer. [LegacyUG] Deleting Sources from Selected Individuals
I have somehow gotten a valid master source attached, as unspecified, to 100s of records to which it does not apply. How can I delete that master source from just those records? I can tag the list of individuals that don't want the source, but I am missing the next step. Thanks in advance. Dick Nixon Have you unlocked the real power of Legacy? Re: [LegacyUG] Webpage Creation WAS No messages
Hi LouAnn, Welcome to the list! I hope we will always be able to help you. I would like to suggest that you change the subject when you write to the list, so that someone who might delete No Messages will open an email asking for help on creating web pages. Also, if you can delete all the extra links at the bottom of the email, and other irrelevant stuff, that helps remove clutter from your message. A group of persons are meeting together in a Yahoo group, I think, about web pages. You might search the Archives (link is at the bottom of each email) or maybe they will write in reply to this email. I have not worked on web pages with Legacy before, so I myself can't answer your question. Good luck, and hope I've been a little bit helpful. Marion, It sounds like you've run Spybot- Search and Destroy and have let the program remove the ICQ-SpyMonitor spyware? It's a false positive that Spybot is giving out. Please download the latest update, just released today, which removes that from the warning and restore the files. On the main window that pops up when you open Spybot, click on the Recovery button to restore the files. Thanks for using Legacy. Re: [LegacyUG] Webpage Creation WAS No messages
Hi LouAnn, Sorry I did not see your original email because (as Susan says) I mass deleted all no messages. Firstly have a look at my Creating Web Pages in the Blog section of my website (for the address see below) which gives the basic of creating web pages using Legacy, also have a look in the Help Pages which gives lots of information. You need also, if I understand your requirements correctly, to look at creating Lines of multiple descent The Web group to which Susan refers is at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL/ from where you can subscribe, you will also need to subscribe to Yahoo Groups (both are free). The group contains Legacy users with a wide range of experience in creating websites, from beginners to advanced. RE: [LegacyUG] Deleting Sources from Selected Individuals
Dan, Yep, your right, incorrectly read. Not enough coffee after just waking. Mark I believe the OP (original poster) wanted to delete the Master Source citations from only some individuals, but not all of them, and keep the original Master Source and it's citations for the other individuals - so, steps 5 and 6 won't be necessary in that case. [LegacyUG] Problem 650
My problem is this [650 of them]. On the Individual's information window [top part] Bapt is blank. On the bottom half of the screen under Event/Fact all the Baptism Data is there. Is there a way to swap the Baptism Data to the above Bapt field. I hate to think that I will have to type all 650 of them again. Yes I use the hunt and peck system of typing. Yes, I think that this will be quite easy, from the window in the lower section where you have the baptism info, highlight the event, then select options on the right hand side, Right click and select swap with Christening/Baptism information Just in case, I'd do a back up first though! [LegacyUG] Events List style reports unsatisfactory
Hello list, I really enjoy Legacy and the data input but the output is not working for me. I chose to use Legacy because it offered the list style for events as well as narrative but the reports that I have examined are not useful. The only report that works properly is the chronology report. Testing the family group sheet and the individual report both reports cut short my description and render the report useless. The format for the individual report is not what I wish to have in a list of events. One example: In the Legacy program for the event type Associates I have the date and location entered and fact description is entered as : Neighbors: William Barker William Parry. In the individual report this translates to: Associates, Neighbors: Richard Tree and William Spencer, 10 Feb 1636/37 in James City County, V~ This one of my shortest fact descriptions so you can understand that several do not even show the date or location. My preference would be to have the date shown after the event type. I will report this as a bug; but wanted to alert anyone considering Legacy for the list option. Best regards, B. G. Re: [LegacyUG] Problem 650
Hi Henry, Yes you can swap the information to the Baptism field without retyping. Under the Options button next to the events on the Individual information screen is a list of possibilities for the highlighted event, including Swap with baptism information. There is a problem if the baptism event includes a Description - it is left behind if the baptism fields were empty and attached to the switched information if the baptism fields had information. When the baptism fields were blank, this leaves a blank baptism event which then needs to be deleted. You can't delete a whole Event definition if it is being used. So this is a big one by one job unless someone else can think of a clever way. My only thought is - could you do it by exporting to a Gedcom and reimporting with particular mapping options. This would only be feasible if you've only used common items as some things are lost in Gedcom export. I'm also too inexperienced with Gedcoms to know how. You may need to edit the Gedcom and change the tag used for these baptisms to an unknown tag so that you are asked on import what to do with them. Re: [LegacyUG] Events List style reports unsatisfactory
Hi Beth, I have been able to reproduce a ~ cutting off a field in the Family Group Sheet - but only for the Description. When the description is longer, it appears to drop down a line and be reported after the date and location - but is still only given one line - it isn't word wrapping to another line - which I think is what you're identifying as a bug. A bug fix won't change the order of the fields to your preference. I found in the FGS, when a location was longer than the box, it dropped down to the next line. When both description and location were too long both dropped down to separate lines - however, if they were longer than a line, they were cut off. With narrative style, everything word wraps. In the Descendant Book Report - and presumably all Book reports, the List style also word wraps. Here's a work around: You can set up the event definitions so that they look like a list style - and you can choose whichever order you want. You could also include [CR] carriage returns so that the description was on a new line. If you sometimes want to use Narrative style events, then you would need to have the Narrative style set up in a special Family File - say called Narrative and the list style set up in a special Family File - say called Forced List. Then you would open your real Family File go to the Master Event Definition List, click Options button and choose Import tick just the Event Definition List select the relevant file - either Narrative or Forced List click Import Lists and in the dialogue choose to overwrite current event with incoming event. That's some work around but it should work. Cathy At 10:07 AM 10/05/2007, you wrote: Hello list, I really enjoy Legacy and the data input but the output is not working for me.
