RE: [LegacyUG] Create WebPages

2006-02-24 Thread Paul
Sandra,
My point was to show that it is actually very easy to create web pages in
Legacy and just as easy to incorporate into an existing website. Thanks for
the comments. My mother will be 77 in August.

The website is my donation to our family. A website such as that with over
500 files only using a small fraction of the allotted memory is less than
$100 per year. A small donation for a large family that likes to stay in
touch. I also had a bulletin board, but took it down for awhile. It will
be going back up soon.

You should give the Create Web Pages a try, even if it is just to put on a
CD to share with other family members, which has been suggested on here in
the past.

Have fun.

Re: [LegacyUG] Create WebPages

2006-02-24 Thread Wm Voss
Yes, the output is generally adequate for very small files, but the task
rapidly escalates when file size increases -- my American silversmith
project runs a touch over 105,000 pages in full build now -- far too
many to edit into correct shape manually, so I only build those who
practiced the trade, about 3,500 pages and 4,200 images. It only takes
about two days.

To be sure, this method will be inconvenient for most people... but it's a

This has been requested many, many times since the early days. The only
ways now are to add multiple events, one per picture, or hand edit the

Hi There ,

A couple of weeks agao - I posted to the list about creating some ASP pages
that would replace the Legacy Generated HTML pages.

One of the features of the ASP pages that I am working on will be displaying
of multiple images.

Still work in progress and no timeframes at this stage.

Re: [LegacyUG] Create WebPages

There's another way, if you're comfortable with html. It's the method I use.

Put your photos, census images, whatever you have, on the server by hand. (Or
on the cd if you're creating a cd of web pages.) Then, code the correct html
tags to display the images for that person.

To be sure, this method will be inconvenient for most people... but it's a
possibility.

What I *personally* do is create one large (VERY large) html page. I do the
multiple descendant line book report, saving the report as an html page. I
then have my own program which slices it up into individual linked web pages,
creates the table of contents for each of my lines, the surname index, and so
on, and incorporates as many photos and links to census images as I want.

Legacy does most of the work - quite nicely - and I add a bit of post
processing to create the web pages I want.

By the way, by doing the multiple descendant book report format, I can include
ALL linked persons in my database. It's a matter of creating the correct
starting point - that is, the correct list of marriage IDs in the correct
order. I might actually be a step ahead of Millennia Corp on that point!
