RE: [LegacyUG] Location Index
I can't duplicate this. The preposition was ignored in the trial I made of a Descendant Book. Are you sure that the preposition was entered in the preposition field and not as part of the location? Probably isn't one of the prepositions shown in the Prepositions.lst file which shows the common prepositions. For a list of the prepositions, you can either open the file up in a text editor or you can go to our Help Search for Help on and look up Prepositions on Locations. For an explanation of what the Remove common prepositions option does, click on the context-sensitive Help button in the Sort Location List window (Master Locations Sort). It's for sorting and doesn't affect the Location Index Thanks for using Legacy. Shouldn't the Location Index in any report honor Prepositions.lst? P.S. Where should I be entering my prepositions? It seems that the preposition field came along long after Prepositions.lst. Re: [LegacyUG] Location Index
This does not answer your question as such but it might reduce the number of locations where this type of entry is made. I dislike probably, and it's cousin possibly, being used like this but most do as it is the age old, traditional way of handling. In this case what if there is a fair assumption that he was born in Ohio - perhaps the census so reflects and family tradition backs it up? What you might not really know is whether or not he was born in Clinton County? To my way of thinking if you enter as , probably Clinton County, Ohio the state is just as much of a probable as the County. Because of this I enter these as , , Ohio (probably Clinton County). What if you *know* the birth was in Clinton County and may just be Wilmington. If you enter as probably Wilmington, Clinton County, Ohio then Clinton County and Ohio are also suspect even they should not be. I enter these as , Clinton County (possibly Wilmington), Ohio. Just a bit of a twist but paints a clearer picture and will certainly sort better. RE: [LegacyUG] location index
Thanks, Sherry and Cathy for responding, but I noticed that I can get both index reports in the preview option, so I'll just do a .pdf report and work with it that way. I downloaded and reinstalled Legacy deluxe on top of the old one, now the location report will show both indexes in preview but will not show the location index when creating any RTF file... also, the notes are still not working in the location index report. John, That's correct. One index is an rtf limitation. Unfortunately, if you need to edit the report, you won't be able to edit in PDF. Thanks for using Legacy. RE: [LegacyUG] location index
As a workaround, would it make sense to do a RTF report, complete all the pages to the point that you know you will be not adding or removing any more pages in a multiple descendent report,-then add the correct number of placeholders that the location report would need and insert them last? RE: [LegacyUG] location index
Do you mean a Location Report or a Location Index? You wouldn't get the correct page numbers for an index though you could use the Book Feature to add a Location Report if it's the Location Notes that you are wanting to ensure are attached. Re: [LegacyUG] location index
Hi John, I know you can't get a Location Index with an RTF report. I understand that this is due to some limitation with RTF in terms of how the indexes are created in your word processor. I think you are limited to one index - but I could be wrong. Location Notes are showing here in preview. Next time you're having problems with reports - try deleting the relevant usr file rather than reinstalling Legacy. Resetting the report settings doesn't always deal with a corrupted usr file.
