SHARE Providence - LAST Request for Chairs

2017-07-31 Thread John Crossno
Yes! This is the last request for chairs for Providence. We are in the
final week before SHARE, and are looking to fill the last 6 sessions. Are
you going? Are you planning to attend one of these sessions anyway? Even if
you've never chaired a session before, you are welcome to join us and help
out.

See you in Providence next week!

John

SHARE Providence - Request for Chairs

2017-07-24 Thread John Crossno
Well, we're getting down to the final stretch and still have 15 sessions
left to pick from, if you are going to Providence and are thinking about
signing up to chair one or more sessions. If you haven't chaired before and
are thinking about it, feel free to contact me with any questions or
concerns you might have. As almost anyone will attest to, it's pretty easy
and straightforward. Please select from the list below, and let me know
which sessions you are willing to pick up. Remember, if you're going to
attend the session anyway, there's very little extra effort to chair.

Thanks!

John

SHARE Providence - Request for Chairs

2017-07-18 Thread John Crossno
Hi all! No, this isn't the final request for chairs... But it could be if
we get the last 15 sessions covered! This is your opportunity to put away
the procrastination hat and jump on board. Let your sense of volunteerism
take control, and select one or more sessions from those left, to chair.
But, only do that if you are going to Providence, of course.

Thanks!
John

SHARE Providence - Request for Chairs

2017-07-10 Thread John Crossno
Good morning! Yup! We are still looking for some of you who will be
attending SHARE in Providence in a few weeks, to also volunteer a little
bit of your time to chair a session or two, of the 22 that are left to pick
up. It takes very little effort, and if you are attending one of these
sessions, doesn't take away from where you might be otherwise. Don't
hesitate, let me know today, if you are interested in helping out. Just
send me a direct email with the session IDs for those sessions you are
willing to chair for us. If you've never chaired a session before and have
a question please reach out to me directly to get that question answered.
Be sure you are sending that email to me and not the list though please.

Thanks!
John

2017-07-05 Thread John Crossno
Happy Day after the 4th of July! For those in the US, I hope you all had a
nice (long) weekend. Providence is fast arriving and we are still looking
to fill 29 sessions with Chairs. If you are going to SHARE, please consider
volunteering to help out by Chairing one or more sessions. The speakers
appreciate it, and the LVM volunteers appreciate it even more. Take a look
at the remaining sessions and let me know which you would like to volunteer
for.

Thanks!
John

SHARE Providence - Request for Chairs

2017-06-26 Thread John Crossno
You know... The sooner these empty session chair slots become occupied with
volunteers, the sooner these emails will cease. Yes, we are still looking
for some of you who will be attending SHARE in Providence, to step up and
offer a little of your time to help your peers who are presenting, by
chairing their session(s). If you haven't chaired a session before, it's
easy, and I'm happy to walk you through it. If you have chaired sessions
before, you know. Please feel free to pick from the list below. Just send
me the session ID, and I'll confirm the slot(s) you've chosen.

Thanks!

Re: SHARE Providence - Request for Chairs

2017-06-07 Thread John Crossno
Hi JB,

Appreciate your help. Please feel free to select those that you'd like to
chair from the list I sent out. That is currently the official agenda for
LVM... Not saying a sessions might change, but it's pretty stable at this
point. When you do pick your sessions, just send me the list of the session
IDs that you're good to pick up.

Thanks again!

SHARE Providence - Request for Chairs

2017-06-05 Thread John Crossno
Hi! Yes, it's that time of the year, again. And the sooner we get all of
our sessions for the upcoming SHARE populated with Session Chairs, the
sooner I can stop sending out this email with the request for them :)

If you already know that you are going to Providence, and whether you have
experience Chairing sessions or not, we'd love to have you jump on-board
and help out the speakers by chairing their sessions.

If you've never done this before, and aren't sure, please feel free to
email me with any questions you have. It's really quite simple.

If you are ready to sign up, just email me the session IDs that you want to
pick up. It's that easy.

Thanks!

Re: SHARE Providence

2017-04-25 Thread Martha McConaghy
Andrew,

Its great to hear that you are interested in coming to SHARE in Providence
this August! Many of us on this list are volunteers who help put each SHARE
event together (such as Mark and Alan), so it is always good to hear that
people are interested in attending.

We are pulling the schedule for the event together this coming weekend in
fact. The final agenda will be published online in mid-June. In the
meantime, I can tell you that there will be a lot of sessions covering
information in the expected IBM announcements early this summer. The VM and
Linux sessions at SHARE are always strong, even more so this time, IMHO.
There will also be two SHARE Academy sessions on the Sunday before SHARE
starts. One will be on securing mainframe based systems and will be mainly
z/OS oriented. The other will be on blockchain and Hyperledger, and will be
LInux oriented. So, there will be a lot to choose from. The one thing we can
guarantee at SHARE is that you'll not be bored! %-)

Keep an eye on the SHARE website, share.org, for when more details get
published. There will also be mentions about it on this list as well as the
IBMVM list.

That's always the question. Every time in the past when we've tried, we didn't
draw very many attendees at all. The percentage of attendees at every
conference that are new or haven't been there in quite a while is rather high.
Those seem to be the ones that want to take our labs. The same seems to be
true of our non-lab sessions. Advanced topics draw very few attendees which is
hard to justify the next time around.

Given the limited slots we have available for labs, a full-day lab is _very_
unlikely to happen. The limit seems to be three slots these days.

Re: SHARE Providence

2017-04-24 Thread Michael MacIsaac
Mark,

OK, but when to we 'raise the bar'? I was hoping a one-day (or even a half
day) lab could be created to get to a working "Self-service portal" (aka
"Private Cloud").

I'd like to say zoom on top of SMAPI on top of a directory manager would be
adequate for a 'back-end'. But an open-source Web UI front-end is still
needed IMHO. It's not a trivial amount of code, but neither would it be
excessively large.

I'm hoping to get to SHARE in August and present on what we have running
internally (if all goes as planned - can't make promises).

Hey, if you're going to use SUSE's tag line, get it right. It's "Have a lot of
fun." ;)

Well, you can get an idea from share.org, but here's what I get out of
SHARE

1. Meet a lot of the folks to live here and on IBMVM.
2. Learn what's new in the Linux kernel and distros, as well as z/VM.
3. Learn how to use the technologies these products provide
4. Learn how and why others are doing what they do
5. Learn some best/suggested practices
6. Learn other relevant technologies (e.g. server, storage, z/OS)
7. Have fun

Hey all.

I know this is not really mailing list for share. But I was thinking about
going. What should I expect to get out of the conference? I'm currently
maintaining several z/VM instances with various configurations.

Thanks
