Please help me

2024-06-11 Thread Edwin Burmeister
Desperately need help.

I have spent hours trying to figure out how one might be able to run BOTH LyX
2.4 and LyX 2.3.8 on the same Mac computer with a Silicon chip and Mac OS 14.5.
No luck finding any useful information about this issue.

Is this possible?

If so, how does one do it?

Thanks in advance.

2.4.x format.

How locate LyX errors

2023-08-14 Thread Edwin Burmeister
I am using LyX 2.3.7 on a Mac (silicon chip) running OS Ventura 13.5.

From LaTeX Errors window:

“Selecting an error ... the cursor will jump to the location in the document
where the error occurred.”

This does not happen for me. How can I get it to work?

I then tried to locate my errors via line number. But putting

\usepackage[left,modulo]{lineno}

\linenumbers

in the LaTeX Preamble did not work.

How can I obtain line numbers as an aid for locating errors?

Graphics font problem

2023-07-20 Thread Edwin Burmeister
Hi--

I am using LyX 2.3.7 on a Mac (silicon chip) running OS Ventura 13.4.1.

[As an aside, months ago I discovered that Browse did not work

for inserting a graphic file and found the workaround.]

I have a different problem. In the PDF created by LyX, one sees, for example,
the following:

Figure 1: Relationship between utility-space and gains-space

Note from the above that I have figured out how to increase the font size for
the caption, which entails first switching to math mode.

But I cannot figure out how to increase the font size for “Figure 1” (etc for
Figure 2, ...) so that it matches the larger font size in the caption.

Will you please let me know whether or not there is any way to do this?

Many thanks.

Re: Problems with LyX on Mac computers

2023-01-22 Thread Edwin Burmeister
Sorry, I did not realize that the current binary for LyX 2.3.7 is a Universal
application. That is what I have been using.

So apparently the problems encountered by Mac users are NOT due to Rosetta as I
had wrongly guessed.

front of me-

The two installers are not for older and newer versions of MacOS, they are for
older and newer Macs — older machines have Intel chips while newer machines
have Apple Silicon (M1 and M2 chips). The installer for the universal LyX
binary, which will run on either platform, includes the string “x86_64-arm64”;
the installer for the Intel-only binary only includes the substring “x86_64”.
In fact, both installers and both binaries will run on both older and newer
machines (although, of course, the Intel binary requires the mediation of
Rosetta on Apple Silicon machines). I suppose the Intel-only binary is a bit
smaller and perhaps runs a bit faster on an Intel Mac, but would think the
differences would be negligible (but I could be wrong).

could this be the source of the graphics problem?

No. The problem arises under Ventura no matter which LyX binary you use.

Re: LyX 2.3.6.3 fatal problems on a Mac

2022-09-20 Thread Edwin Burmeister
Hi, Stephen—

Ich verstehen.

I always installed all upgrades to Mac OS. So my order was 12.4, 12.5, I
believe 12.5.1, and finally 12.6.

LyX was not installed on any of these OS’s until I finally tried unsuccessfully
to do so on 12.6.

I do not know if some versions of Python was installed on any of these OS’s.

But again the bottom line is that a fresh install of Python3 on OS 12.6
completely solved my LyX problems.

Hope this additional info helps.

My question was: did you upgrade the system (with OS 12.4 + LyX + Python) to

There was “a critical OS 12.5 upgrade” [or maybe it was OS 12..5.1] in between

In any event, my problems with LyX 2.3.6.2 have all gone away since I installed

I’d guess you installed LyX w/o Python on a new system.

Hope this info is helpful to you.

My question is important to know how to help other users or to improve the LyX

that’s bad, sorry to hear that.

I remember you’ve made a trac ticket in LyX bug tracker. There you’ve mentioned

Does it mean you’ve upgraded your OS from 12.4 to 12.6? Or is it a new system?

JMarc is right (see the other answer), there is a possible problem with Python

I downloaded your DMG file many time thinking that perhaps there was a

Here is a partial list of problem that I have encountered:

(1) When opening LyX, the word LyX appears briefly on the Menu Bar and then

(2) Sometimes I get a message about needing to Reconfigure LyX. When I try to
do so, I get a message that it failed.

(3) Sometimes I get a message that the cite engine is missing.

(4) The file LyX-2.3 located in /Library/Application Support/ contains ONLY an

(5) Once-- do not recall exactly what I was doing at the time-- I got a message

that said something like, “You have encountered a bug in LyX.”

I have spent at least 4 or 5 hours trying various alternatives in hopes of
getting LyX to work. None have been successful.

Will you please let me know by Reply email what I should do now?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Ed

Re: [ANNOUNCE] LyX 2.2.3 Released

2017-05-15 Thread Edwin Burmeister
(1) The links below for “lists.lyx.org<http://lists.lyx.org>” do not work.
(2) The introductory file “splash.lyz” cannot be viewed as a PDF without error.
This was also true in 2.2.2, but it works fine in 2.1.5. Some error message
about a convertor needing to be defined in Preferences, but I cannot figure out
 the solution. Need help here.

Thanks.

We are proud to announce the release of LyX 2.2.3. This is the third
maintenance release in the 2.2.x series.

You can download LyX 2.2.3 from
http://www.lyx.org/Download/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.lyx.org_Download_=DwMDaQ=imBPVzF25OnBgGmVOlcsiEgHoG1i6YHLR0Sj_gZ4adc=aLr16xOwI28Mf9Dl7Dlbgg=45CpcMJ6mjOnoeoukg8x93ik30ex5TEIIO6GwLx9TsA=Zxc2Aw5UQo8w5CTU0p2tZdC0DulLhpdXYWQ66Bm1eX4=>.

LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based
on the structure of your documents and not simply their appearance. It is
released under a Free and Open Source Software license.

LyX 2.2.3 is the result of on-going efforts to make our stable version more
reliable and more stable. We have fixed a number of bugs and made a number
of improvements. Most of these are relatively minor in themselves, but the
combined result of fixing them all has led to significant improvements. We
encourage all users of 2.2.2 to upgrade to this version.

If you think you have found a bug in LyX 2.2.3, please open a bug report at
http://www.lyx.org/trac/wiki/BugTrackerHome<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.lyx.org_trac_wiki_BugTrackerHome=DwMDaQ=imBPVzF25OnBgGmVOlcsiEgHoG1i6YHLR0Sj_gZ4adc=aLr16xOwI28Mf9Dl7Dlbgg=45CpcMJ6mjOnoeoukg8x93ik30ex5TEIIO6GwLx9TsA=8iDJsgxAZrJ0O0nYIgj-vA6HJF1jUcQKIdKFhXYUFBo=>.
If you're not sure whether it
really is a bug, you can e-mail the LyX developers' mailing list (lyx-devel
 lists.lyx.org<http://lists.lyx.org>) and ask.

If you have trouble using LyX or have a question, consult the
documentation that comes with LyX and the LyX wiki, which lives at
http://wiki.lyx.org/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__wiki.lyx.org_=DwMDaQ=imBPVzF25OnBgGmVOlcsiEgHoG1i6YHLR0Sj_gZ4adc=aLr16xOwI28Mf9Dl7Dlbgg=45CpcMJ6mjOnoeoukg8x93ik30ex5TEIIO6GwLx9TsA=X3Zg9W5vyZzskp3orBVZRkea1cJEQNVCrokcEN_hmlY=>.
If you can't find the answer there, e-mail the LyX
users' list (lyx-users lists.lyx.org<http://lists.lyx.org>).

We hope you enjoy using LyX 2.2.3.

The LyX team.
