Re: [Moses-support] Using KenLM instead of IRSTLM in existing moses.ini error

2011-07-28 Thread Lee Ball (Applied Language)
Hello again,

I ran compile-lm against the model.lm.es.gz and got the output
model.lm.es.blm but when using 8 0 5 in my moses.ini it crashes with this:

unk 0
  not blank File: model.es.lm.blm
 Aborted

Is this down to bad artefacts in the language model?

I also tried

[lmodel-file]

I then ran mosesserver with this new moses.ini file and it appeared to
output the contents of model.lm.gz and then it stopped with this output:

IRSTLM was used to create this language model initially. Although the
moses.ini was from a slightly older build which doesn't mention KenLM as an

What format is your language model in? What software did you use to create
it?

You can try opening the language model using more or cat and then grep for

I've checked in an updated kenlm as revision 3847. This involves a
binary format change, so you'll need to rebuild from your ARPA files,
 sorry.

 - There's an important correctness fix. Some models contain n-grams
like foo bar baz quux without their n-grams e.g. bar baz quux and
baz quux because these were pruned. In these cases, old kenlm probing
returns an incorrect probability for foo bar baz quux because it
searches for n-grams of increasing order. In a stock SRI model with
default settings, 1.2% of n-grams were impacted and further these were
unlikely n-grams because pruning happened. The trie data structure
would silently break in this case. I've fixed both data structures to
correctly handle these n-grams. Trie memory consumption will increase
 slightly (~1.2%) as a result.

 - There are now more opportunities for recombination. Suppose foo bar
appears in the model with zero backoff but no trigram begins with foo
bar. Then a hypothesis ending with foo bar can recombine with other
hypotheses conditioned solely on bar (or even less if bar is similar).
SRI already does this when marked in the model (this is the difference
between 0.0 and blank in SRI ARPA files). But SRI will miss when
filtering removes n-grams blocking recombination or IRST does not leave
the backoff blank. KenLM will catch these and allow recombination.
More recombination means you may see different results using KenLM, but
they should have better model scores.

 - Models that contain unk inside n-grams are now supported. These can
be made using -vocab in SRI.

 - Trie building uses less memory. It also takes longer, but that's to
support the above features. Making trie building faster is planned for
 a future release.

 - The parser will no longer throw exceptions when your words contain
form-feed, carriage return, or vertical tab. Previously, these were
interpreted as spaces. So if you have unclean training data, the model
 will still load.

 - The sorted data structure is disabled. It was slower and larger than
trie and would have been a pain to fix.

Lastly, a question to Moses developers: the unsigned int* len
parameter to language models: should that be the length of the n-gram
matched or the length of context that should be kept for purposes of
 recombination?

Re: [Moses-support] SRILM

2011-01-21 Thread Lee Ball (Applied Language)
It does look like a space might be missing. I just did a grep -ri through
the code for release 1.5.10 or SRILM for the string gcc-m32 and it didn't
find it. I was able to find references to -m32 GCC_FLAGS in these files:

./common/Makefile.machine.i686: GCC_FLAGS = -m32 -mtune=pentium3
-Wreturn-type -Wimplicit -Wformat
./common/Makefile.machine.i686-ubuntu: GCC_FLAGS = -m32 -mtune=pentium3
-Wreturn-type -Wimplicit -Wformat

See what you get back with this command at the top of your SRILM folder
where you're trying to build it:

grep -ri gcc-m32 ./

 Hi Moses,

Introducing kenlm in Moses trunk. You no longer need to download a
separate language model to use Moses; it's distributed with Moses and
compiled in by default on UNIX. This is threadsafe language model
inference code that returns the same probabilities as SRI (up to
floating point rounding). It loads APRA files in 2/3 the time SRI takes
and uses less memory too. Using kenlm is simple: in your [lmodel-file]
section, change the first digit to 8. For example,

 0 0 2 foo.arpa changes to 8 0 2 foo.arpa

For even faster loading, use the binary format:

 kenlm/build_binary foo.arpa foo.binary

then simply provide the binary filename in your moses.ini e.g.
8 0 2 foo.binary; it auto detects binary files using magic bytes at
 the beginning.

The code is ready for use and provides correct results. Inference
 is
slower than it should be due to inefficiencies in the Moses-side wrapper
code (it does a vocab lookup for all 5 words every time). I'm working
on it and once this is done I'll post some benchmarks against SRI and
IRST. The binary format is subject to change, but contains a version
number so on very rare occasions after, new versions will tell you to
rebuild your binary files. Windows is currently not supported (it uses
mmap) though I welcome contributions using #ifdef and CreateFileMapping.

Have fun and let me know about your experiences with it.

As i see in the tutorial, we shouldspecify phrase-table as phrase table.
Moses will check if the binary version exists and use it.

[Moses-support] Recent Announced Release?

2010-03-16 Thread Lee Ball (Applied Language)
Hello list,

I read online that there was due to be a new release of Moses recently as
part of the 2010 Machine Translation Marathon? I wondered if this was to be
released as an updated binary on the sourceforge page or if this has already
been released in SVN?

Kind regards,

Lee Ball
