Re: [osg-users] [build] Building OSG 3.6.4 in Win64 TDM GNU.

2019-09-19 Thread Raymond de Vries

Hey Zachary,

You could do yourself a favor and check how many messages you sent about
this subject. And therefore how much time you have been asking from the
people in the (very friendly and patient) community of the OSG.

Let's speak for myself, answering one of your questions "Are there even
any complementary OSG builders out there?". The answer is probably
pretty simple when you place yourself in your audience: "A lot". I have
one friendly advice for you: you are only asking questions here and seem
to find someone who is doing a complex job with a lot of uncertainties
from your side. On the other hand, you are not offering a lot yourself
so what do you think is the balance? That is the reason why I personally
delete your messages pretty quickly and I dare to think that others do
the same.

I have a question for you: maybe you can consider to make a donation to
some kind of organization in return?

Cheers, have a nice day,
Raymond

Re: [osg-users] [build] Building OSG 3.6.4 in Win64 TDM GNU.

2019-09-09 Thread Damian Dixon
Until you mentioned the TDM compiler suite I had not heard of it.

A lot of developers/companies will only engage on something like this on a Time
and Materials basis with clear goals.

The costs for engaging a bespoke port of OSG and all dependencies will not be
cheap. Day rates will probably be on the order of £350 to £800 depending on if
you are able to engage a developer directly or a small software house.

I would suggest that you need to define clearly the following:
• What Plugins you need for OSG
• What Windows OS variants you need this to work on
• If you need debug/release libraries
• If you need 64bit and/or 32bit support
• What GPU(s) you are targeting
• Fixed pipeline OpenGL or modern OpenGL or both
• Do you need osgQt
• How you intend to perform acceptance test.

I would also suggest answering some of the questions already raised such as the
one from Robert ‘Could you explain what your project goals and constraints
are’.

I would also suggest asking yourself the question; would it be cheaper to port
your application to Visual Studio?

Hi Zachary,

I can't help wonder why TDM is so critical, and if you aren't able to get
the OSG to compile yourself then my guess it could an ongoing issue for not
just the OSG but other dependencies as well.

Perhaps the OSG isn't the best solution for you, or perhaps, as others have
repeatedly pointed out, using something than TDM would be far more
productive.

Could you explain what your project goals and constraints are. Perhaps we
can point you in a direction that fits best with these.

Cheers,
Robert.

That's why I haven't been able to help you. I can't tell you beforehand
what it will cost. Whether it's even possible, and the amount of work
necessary to achieve it, is an unknown to all of us. We'd have to DO all

Re: [osg-users] [build] Building OSG 3.6.4 in Win64 TDM GNU.

2019-09-03 Thread Chris Hanson
Sorry, I've been swamped with another customer's projects recently.

I got your emails, but I don't have a good way to perform the work you are
asking. We have never used the TDM compiler and are not familiar with it,
so it would be impossible for me to be able to tell you how much it would
cost to build this. I don't know if this is even a target supported by
CMake.

I'm really struggling to understand why, if you are so committed to using
this uncommon development toolchain (TDM), you're not up to the task of
building the library from source yourself.

As far as I know there are no OSG developers using the TDM compiler, so if
you are determined to make the choice to use an unsupported compiler, you
are probably a bit on your own.

I'm sorry I can't help you more, but it's just something that's outside of
our expertise.

2019-09-03 Thread Zachary1234
I've been trying to get through to them, but am failing.

Because of where I am in the world, relative to them, we are totally day/night
opposite on every single day. So my telephoning them
is not any option.

The contact us section on their website is buggy, and doesn't display properly,
and might not work properly.

Nonetheless, i have found the following two email addresses for AlphaPixel:
[url]
[/url]

I have sent emails to both of these addresses, but no one has replied with
anything to me, based on my enquiries on the OSG build matter.

Is there someone who can suggest how I can send an email to AlphaPixel,
and perhaps get some more active attention, please?

AlphaPixel has a buggy web form in its Contact Us area that can't be generally
used. I have attempted emailing them separately using
the email address from inside the buggy code, to no avail.

They have a second email address at the top left hand corner of the web page.
I have emailed that address too, with no reply.

I can't telephone AlphaPixel because we are always day/night opposed, given how
far away from each other on planet earth we always are.

Is there someone on these forums who can give me an email address
for AlphaPixel that that will at least read from and reply to me from,
that the public can use to approach them, please?

These builds are themselves in dynamic .dll file format.

While their bit profiles should be compatible with Win64 TDM C++,
they are still in .dll file format! The ceremony required for programming
in .dll files is not appropriate for my tasks.

What I am finding is that I do require the static .a or .lib files, but that
I am not able to overcome the impasse of trying to build all of OSG
myself. I canot use MSVC compiling, and must be using TDM compiling.

Is there some free tool out there that I can use to convert MSVC .lib files
to GNU/MinGW/TDM ones?

everything yourself statically if you need trully static build.

-For the sake of my issue, I can't use .dll files. I need the static library
files for Win64, be they .lib or .a files, along with the needed .h header
files.

-Inside my pacman run on 64 bit Windows MSYS2, where do I go to find my static
library file content for OSG? Where are the file and directory names that I
need and am expecting to find?

-If what I seek isn't there as a result of the pacman run from before, is there
something else similar I can do, via pacman or another MSYS2 command line run,
in order to get the (compiled and built) static library and header files I need
to program and run OSG 3.4.X via TDM C++ on Win64, by means of publicly
available content servers available through the internet?

I was wondering if someone over there has a file tree of libraries that exists
on a Windows 64 bit filesystem? I figure that OSG was programmed and tested on
Windows, and that hoefully someone still has something for all the dependencies
that could be easily copied in one fell hit, zipped and uploaded.

What are my chances?

Zachary,

I can give you a Linux VM for VirtualBox with OpenSceneGraph built
from sources, free of charge, if that's enough for you.

Regards,
Michael.

This is more of a compiler question than an OSG/VSG question and as
such out of scope of this list.
Setting your build environment up is something you should learn to do
yourself if you have requirements outside what other contributors use
and this is clearly the case here.

Is there some software out there that I canuse to convert
from a Win64 MSVC C++ build to a Win64 GNU one, for an example,
that I could use on the Objexx build, to short cut my entire problem?

Hi Zachary,

I doubt that any user has ever need to use all the optional components of
the OSG, there are many for many different purposes, just work out what
functionality you need and then add the dependencies that provide that
functionality as you need them.

You don't need EGL unless you are building OpenGLES.

I don't have any connect with them. I don't use Windows myself.

I have been planning to include all of them, anyway. I need them
all included.

-My issue is that I can't really find EGL, not on its own.
The only EGL that I can find is as a wrapper, and even then it requires
even more library content behind it.

-Is there anyone at your side of things, or even involved with
Objexx Engineering, who has the total dependency library set, in terms of files?

Even those involved with testing of OSG, particularly since a new .4
has just been released, that could be zipped an uploaded?

Re: [osg-users] [build] Building OSG 3.6.4 in Win64 TDM GNU.

2019-07-27 Thread Robert Osfield
Hi Zachary,

EGL is required for GLES, it's not required for OpenGL.

The rest of the listed libs that aren't available are OPTIONAL so fine to
build the OSG without them. If need the functionality associated with
them, then you'll need to install that dependency and re-run CMake.
