Re: Winamp Version 5.571 is now Available

2009-12-24 Thread Barry Chapman
I have had this problem with Winamp and the SqrSoft Advanced Crossfading plugin
with all versions of Winamp since version 5.53.
That is why whenever a new version of Winamp comes out, I install and try it
and if the crossfader crashes I go back to version
5.53. I use JAWS and don't know if it has any part to play in the equation.

Regards,
Barry Chapman

Hello chris!
I have tried the latest version of winamp, but for some weird reason, my
crossfader plug in stopped working when trying to configure it, I just got
an error message and that old send report button and so on, so I hope this
is not an issue for you.
Just wanted you to let y'all know.
Warm christmas regards,

I have often wondered why you would have the ability to record in .wav
format and then not have the capibility to set a proper recording level?

Surely if you do not need to set recording levels then mp3 would be good
enough?

Hi: Both units will play NLS books as well as audible.com books. You can
record both wav and MP3 files on the booksense but on the stream if you
want
MP3 files you have to convert them. The Stream already offers RFBD
support

where RFBD will be available soon on the Sense as soon as RFBD add it to
their list of Daisy players. If you read a lot of electronic documents or
bookshare books, you probably want the booksense because of the Kate and
Paul voices which are much better to listen to than the synthesizer on the
Stream.
The speaker volume is better on the Sense, if this makes any difference to
you.
Navigation is different on the Booksense, but not hard to learn. From
what
I've been hearing, the Stream is going to be adding some new features
soon,

but you will have to pay to have them.
Hope this is helpful.

What kinds of things should I consider when looking at getting either one

and MP3s among other things. The book cents is getting the RFB and D
Support. What other things should I consider when looking at these 2

machines? Can you record in wave format and stereo? What's the speed
compression like?? Can you speed up music and books on both machines if
you want? Thank you guys for any feedback.

2009-12-24 Thread André van Deventer
Horses for courses.

It depends what you want to do. If recording is mainly what you want to do,
then I personally think the pocket is your best bet. I personally like the
ability to decide whether you want to set your recording volume manually,
which can be an asset if you want a really good recording quality, or use
automatic recording levels. Also the pocket has certain automatic recording
settings for environments like conferences, etc.

And it can play material in different formats as well and .txt and html
files at this stage.

But it is quite possible that the sense can play back more files than the
pocket.

Remember all of these devices are updated by firmware updates which can be
downloaded from the manufacturers' websites so what we may discuss as pros
and cons now may not necessarily be true in say 3 months time!

2009-12-24 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Folks:

As far as an all around book reader is concerned, I believe that the Stream
is a much more stable device and has features that the other pocket players
do not have, such as AGC. As a podcast player, it is unsurpassed.

The problem with the stream is, however, that the present hardware
configuration has been pretty well maxed out. I believe, for example, that
the present hardware will not be able to play WMA DRM.

Just some thoughts.

Re: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents

2009-12-24 Thread Gary Schindler
. If you read a lot of
electronic documents or bookshare books, you probably want the
booksense because of the Kate and Paul voices which are much better to
listen to than the synthesizer on the Stream.
The speaker volume is better on the Sense, if this makes any
difference to you.
Navigation is different on the Booksense, but not hard to learn. From
what I've been hearing, the Stream is going to be adding some new
features soon, but you will have to pay to have them.
Hope this is helpful.

Subject: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents

Hello guys,
I've listened to reviews on both the book cents and victor stream.
What kinds of things should I consider when looking at getting either
one or the other? I want to be able to play NLS, Recording For the
Blind books

and MP3s among other things. The book cents is getting the RFB and D
Support. What other things should I consider when looking at these 2
machines? How is the response time between the 2? Any problems with
the 2 machines? Can you record in wave format and stereo? What's the
speed compression like?? Can you speed up music and books on both
machines if you want? Thank you guys for any feedback.

I have often wondered why you would have the ability to record in .wav

Surely if you do not need to set recording levels then mp3 would be
 good enough?

Re: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents

2009-12-24 Thread Allison Mervis
. The Stream already offers RFBD
support where RFBD will be available soon on the Sense as soon as
RFBD add it to their list of Daisy players.

Hello guys,
I've listened to reviews on both the book cents and victor stream.

Re: Victor Reader Stream or Book Cents

2009-12-24 Thread Dane Trethowan
I'm only one person, if the price is reasonable - say $50.00 up to $100 - and
the feature set is rich then I'll certainly consider what Humanware has to
offer, I don't think the Victor Reader Stream is an expensive machine given
what it does and its design but what does annoy me somewhat is that its a LINUX
machine and much of the Stream has been sourced from Open Source projects, in
effect this means that not much software development was required.

Now I'll make myself clearer, I'm sure Humanware aren't the first to do this
sort of thing and they won't be the last but they're not - in my view - giving
enough credit to those who actually did the work smile.

the newer features of the Stream. This will turn people off.

Re: GOM Player Audio Capture

2009-12-24 Thread Dean Masters
I finally figured it out. I found the manual online but it didn't have
anything about the audio capture.

If you want to record a stream like an online station you can play the
station then turn on the audio capture. Set the settings but don't check the
box to have it start automatically. Just enter on the start button and it
wil start recording.

If you have a stream that is a certain length rather than an online station
open the audio capture, set it up plus check the box fo r it to start
automaticallly. then hit cancel. Then when you start the definite stream the
audio capture will come up. There you can see what title it gives it plus
all the other info. It will also stop automatically at the end of the
stream.

Foobar2000 can capture audio with a great result as far as i can tell.
Though it doesn't have any audio capture feature, you have to use the
converter to do it.
Blessings!

I have both and the stream is a little more stable. It seems to hold
