Rick, Nice shot and captures the feel of Seattle very well. I like the ferry as a 'big boat' here and am drawn in by the lights on top and at the vehicle entrance. Thanks Rick. It sits out on a jut of land off the Hwy at the edge of the lake. OT: Microsoft Access
Having a software problem and hoping someone can offer help. I have a photo database in Microsoft Access 97 which I wrote years ago and have still been using. When I bought a new computer this summer I reinstalled Microsoft Office from my original disc. Everything runs fine except Access, which won't start and gives me a message Microsoft Office can't start because there is no license for it on this machine. Damned odd because I do, and have always had, a legal install disc, one that has worked in the past whenever I needed it. Uninstalling/reinstalling didn't help. I can extract all the data in the tables through other software, but I'd really like to be able to run my original database. Peso Barbie loves cash
Back on Nov 4th our farm held a bit of a funday for the hunter and dressage riders, that started out small, but turned into an all day fund raiser for breast cancer. The hunters did two dressage tests, and the dressage riders did two small over fence courses. Between the entry fees, the tack sale and raffles and silent auction, we managed to raise over $3500. Not bad for 44 horse people and friends. We had a special entry in the jump class: http://picasaweb.google.com/pentkon52/General/photo#5135337090728105938 This is Cash, a black lab, and Barbie as the rider. I'm still paying off several Dslr's .LOL I do however find my self shooting my horse shows as if I was still using film. Just a few fences of the riders on course. Two, maybe three if the course is set up photographer friendly. I know several of the other people around here, machine gun and shoot every fence, good or bad, and galloping shots as well. Re: Margarets Garden
Other than being properly exposed focused, with an interesting background, I see very little in this image to warrant capture. I guess some would say it lacks a center of interest. The addition of the chair bird bath certainly add no interest for me and is in fact distracting for me. Just my $0.02 worth. OT: The Cormorant Cure
Speaking of cormorants (don't we always:-), some Wisconsin fisherman came up with the ultimate solution: Three Little Pigs. Seems there was a huge cormorant population on an island in Lake Michigan, and they were wreaking havoc on the local fishing grounds. Apparently, none of the natural enemies of the cormorant live on the island, so the birds multiplied exponentially. Well, some enterprising fishermen brought three baby pigs to the island, built them a shelter and left them to suffice for themselves. They dined on cormorant eggs. Apparently, they dined heartily for quite some time before the environmental nazis figured out what was going on. Of course they had a fit, but by then the cormorant population was well under control. Less photo ops for PDMLers, more fish for Wisconsin anglers. Re: Asking about stock agencies
Boris, I am registered with Alamy. I did it when I was on the staff of a large company, not being paid enough. I thought it would earn me extra income. I only have a few images submitted - but then it was all change at work, and my staff position was made redundant. I am now a managing director of my own company, and things are a lot better financially. Hence, I haven't added to my Alamy selection. I gather that to make a decent living at it, you have to be submitting on the order of dozens of shots per week. Alamy pays less than other agencies (they take a bigger chunk) but the arrangement can be more casual. I kind of liked that idea, seeing as I was not a full time photographer. Like with mosts things, the more you put into it, the more return you will see. To get an idea of saleable images, look at those that sell, and discover their attributes. You won't be buying any Ferraris from the income. I would say, get to know a small agency, get to know them well, and be extremely prolific - and be consistently good with it. The there's the remote chance your pics will sell. It's a flooded market - and more and more it looks like one-off royalty-free is the name of the (poorly-paid) game. People want something for nothing these days, and that spells a hard time for any creative. Good luck! -- Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=|http://www.cottysnaps.com _ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
