[SlimDevices: Plugins] Playlist management plug-in?

2011-03-09 Thread Ikabob

I recently introduced the Playlist Management plug-in . The add to ...
function does not seem to work. When I try to add a radio station to a
specific playlist it does not get added. Is this add to function
limited to just track selections or is it supposed to work with radio
station selections too? Thanks.

Hi Triode,

I am trying to get the spotify plugin running on a new diskstation
running DSM 3.1 . It is preconfigured with SB as follows
Versie: 7.5.3 - r31792 @ Mon Jan 24 08:21:38 MST 2011
HTTP-poortnummer van server: 9002
Besturingssysteem: Synology DiskStation (DSM Package Management) - NL -

before resorting to SSODS, I would like to try this installation. I did
install the plugin in the settings of the SB server, but the helper app
is not running. I located spotifyd (spotifyd and spotifydnoflac). This
is the output of attempting to run these on the command line:

That is nothing to do with the plugin.

Assuming you are running SB Server on Windows box - do Start/Run/CMD
then press Enter/Return then at the prompt type NSLOOKUP then at the
new prompt www.bbc.co.uk and hit Enter/Return.

NSLOOKUP queries your given DNS Server - usually your router - if it
isn't able to resolve the address then your ISP (to whom your router
forwards its requests) is at fault.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

In fact the spotifyd already gave the information where it expected a
conf file:

[21:26:18.401797] read_config:255 unable to open config file:
./Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/spotifydnoflac.conf

[21:26:18.401857] main:348 Unable to read config file

This directory does not contain any conf files.

Synology ls ./Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Spotify/Bin/arm-linux/
libFLAC.so.8 libspotify.so.7 spotifyd spotifydnoflac

In this directory I can also run sporifyd, since libFLAC.so.8 is in the
library path..

I did raise the logging level, but found nothing of interest in the
server.log file.

I also created an empty file spotifyd.conf , now spotifyd daemon
complains
[21:55:48.891560] read_config:305 unable to read username or password

I checked whether there is a spotifyd.conf file in my Windows
Squeezebox installation, and yes there is:

loglevel: INFO
username:
password:
cachedir: C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\spotifycache
bitrate: 320
httpport: 9001
cliport: 9090

My questions are now:

1.Can I just copy my spotifyd.conf file from windows to ARM? Which
cache directory should I specify/create? Should I change the port to
9005?

2. I assume this conf file should have been generated by editing the
settings in the web front end of the server right?

Yes the question was where does the server think it has written it?
The server writes the config file where it expects to find the helper
app and then calls it. So if you enable plugin.spotify logging on the
server and then look in the server log you should see where the server
is trying to put it (or other error messages). Changing the logging
level of the helper app triggers this process.

You can manually copy the file and edit the port number, but I was
hoping to find out why the server is not automatically creating and
starting the server.

That would normally mean that the port number the server is trying to

Thanks for pointing me to that.

My ears told me that something is wrong with the dynamics when Spotify
is played through Squeezebox with the Spotify plug-in - though I'm not
sure that normalization between tracks is what is going on here.

I've looked at a five track classical piece (Bartok's Concerto for
Orchestra) which I already have on CD and the identical CD is also on
Spotify and is available at 320kbps on that site. I've then compared:

a) the CD rip with

b) the Spotify Website output with no normalization (captured by Total
Recorder software) and

c) the digital output of the Squeezebox Duet (captured on an aged
Yamaha CDR-HD1300 digital recorder and then transferred to PC).

These are the resulting wave files as displayed in Soundforge. The
original CD rip and the Spotify Website files are very similar indeed
but the Squeezebox/Spotify plug-in file shows quite marked changes in
dynamics.

Original CD rip:
http://img822.imageshack.us/f/bartokcfooriginalcopy.jpg/

Spotify through the website (no normalization):

Spotify - Squeezebox Duet digital output (using the Spotify Plug-in):
http://img813.imageshack.us/f/bartokcfospotsbdigoutpu.jpg/

To be honest, in spite of Triode's great work, I find Spotify via
Squeezebox difficult to listen to as I know something is wrong.

Dear triode,

I adjusted the port number in the conf file to 9005 and now things
seems to work. I will test the following things later:
* whether the spotifyd is launched automatically
* how stable the configuration is under use
* why the conf file is not written from the GUI (and the process not
reported in the logfile). Could there be some buffering issue? Even
tail -f is not working under this variant of linux.

When all that is clear, I will post a summary that could help other
Synology ARM NAS users.

I really appreciate the added functionality of your plugin in
comparison with the official plugin for the SB Touch.
