Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Wanted: Verbarius Clock Style plugin

2009-09-12 Thread phosty

Hi, I'm using this plugin with my Squeezebox Boom but the font it uses
is too large to get the full time in the window. Is there anyway of
setting the clock text size on the Boom smaller? All I get is 'Quarter
past..' etc.

Hy Guys,

I tried to install your plugin on my SlimServer 6.3.1 but I failed.
Why is this plugin only working with version 6.5?
Is there an old version out there which still works with 6.3.1?

Thanks in advance...

Yes, conditional loading of screensavers in Saverswitcher sounds like a
good idea. I haven't studied the aggressiveness of the mentioned
screensavers, different situations could warrant anything from small
print, only in off mode to stopping the music playback and spelling it
out using text-to-speech... ;)

It would ideally just be an addon to the Verbarious Clock/TimeSpeller,

I took the liberty of making a small correction to the plugin.
PLUGIN_DATETIMETEXT_10H in the german translation was set to DE
Neun. This has to be DE Zehn to show the correct hour at this time.

Ahmm who did that translation first :-).

I hope to be uploading a first version of a slightly enhanced

I'm not so sure about this. Currently there's no handler for dates, just

IMHO rather asking for the latter.

Yes, I know. What I meant was that an alarm clock as you call it is
interesting when you have an alarm. Such a calendar plugin would need
SaverSwitcher to ever be used, I thought it would be better as an addon
to this plugin. But maybe I was wrong.

From a technical point of view (which is important to guess the
feasibility) it's two completely different use cases. TimeSpeller uses
strings depending on the hour of the day, which are recurring every day -
the number of possible strings therefore is rather limited.

A calender plugin would need to have such strings for certain hours/dates,
which might be unique. It just wouldn't make sense to add strings to the
pool for just one time usage.

Maybe a plugin similar to SaverSwitcher that could change screen saver
based on some external critera would solve this. In this way it would
be possible to use the TimeSpeller plugin mostly but when the external
criteria was trigged it could change to use the Alarm Announcement
plugin. The Alarm Announcment plugin would be a new screen saver
that displayed configuable configurable text during a specified time
interval. For example you would configure it to say Wifes Birthday a
specific day and Christmas between 24/12 - 26/12. The texts and
intervals could be read from a text file to make to announcement plugin
a bit simplier, instead of implementing a full blown configuration
interface.

Might be time for a new thread on this...

SaverSwitcher could pretty easily support conditional loading of
screensavers. It could have a public API that this text reminder plugin
could call with code like

my $ssVersion = $Plugins::SaverSwitcher::Plugin::apiVersion;
if ( defined($ssVersion)  ($ssVersion = 2) ) {
Plugins::SaverSwitcher::Public::registerPreUsageCheck($screensaverName,$coderef);
}

and before it activated a saver, it could call any registered $coderef
for that particular saver (passing something like $client) to see if it
should activate the saver, or skip to the next active saver. The
$coderef would simply return 1 (true, use this saver) or 0 (false,
nothing to announce, skip this saver).

You could, for instance, set this text reminder screensaver as active
for some number of seconds in some SaverSwitcher position and know that
it would only display text if it had something to communicate.

This sounds like a passive version of Felix Mueller's announcement
script. For announcements like that, would a screensaver be agressive
enough? I don't currently use a screensaver for When Stopped mode, so
I'd only notice the announcements when the closest Squeezebox was Off or
Playing music.

 Sounds good to me

It might also be a good idea if the new Announcement screen saver
could offer the announcements as a title format, this way the
announcements could be displayed in other places, for example in the
upper row of the MusicInfoSCR screen saver.

I did not want to name this FuzzyTime, I wanted to modify this to *work
with* FuzzyTime!

FuzzyTime already exists; it's a plugin that acts as a screensaver and
time source for other plugins. Its purpose is to let users configure a
particular player to display time some minutes fast compared to the
real time. My wife likes to keep the bedroom clock set a few minutes
fast to help scare us into moving faster in the morning. I wrote
FuzzyTime to increase the odds of her approving another Squeezebox
purchase. :-)

http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html

The FuzzyTime for other Plugin developers section has more
information about modifying other plugins to support FuzzyTime in a way
that does not require FuzzyTime to be installed, and that will show
normal time if FuzzyTime has been disabled or not configured to lie
about the time for a particular client. Generally, supporting FuzzyTime
means replacing calls to TimeF() and time() with calls that use
FuzzyTime public APIs. Here's how simple it was to modify
SuperDateTime 4.x for FuzzyTime:

Ok - this is now turning into a cool plugin! Kudos to Michael for the
International version...

I've made one slight amendment to handle the concept of 'Override
Values'. This covers values such as Midnight or Midday (in fact they
were the only ones I could think of for English). They can be declared
based on the number of hours and minutes, so it should be possible to
make some very specific overrides if necessary.

I've added German and Dutch translations for 'Midday' and 'Midnight' as
well, but these are from Babelfish so could be garbage! - perhaps
someone with the necessary Language skills could comment?

Midday? Is that a British thing? We Yanks say Noon, as in High Noon
(cowboy movie reference there). Here's a quick stab at changing to
Noon, making it based on the real time (no 2 minute increase -- if you
really want the display to read 2 minutes fast, add 120 to all the
time() calls, and use explicit time values for the longDateF() calls ),
and made it compatible with my FuzzyTime plugin.

This plugin is begging for 7.0's use of an external strings.txt file.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Wanted: Verbarius Clock Style plugin

2007-03-03 Thread mherger

Ok, and here's a version which can be localized using strings as any
plugin. I've used placeholders %s in the minute strings to tell where
the hour should be placed. This allows for automatic Five o'clock and
Ten past five display.

I've slightly updated the plugin to be in sync with the current
DateTime screensaver plus added German translation (DE, EN, SV
available). gonk, please verify if the Swedish version is still ok. I
am able to check the English, but Swedish... is rather Greek to me :-)

Have fun!

 The Swedish doesn't work for:
19:25
19:30

The problem is that the hour should be spelled eight with these in
Swedish but in your new international versions the hour is spelled
seven.

The correct should result in something like this (directly
translated):
19:25 Five to half eight Fem i halv åtta
19:30 Half eight Halv åtta

I think the problem is that in the original version it said:
if ($min=25) {$hour=$hour+1};

But in your international version is says:
if ($min=35) {$hour=$hour+1};

It doesn't for German neither. I noticed this half an hour ago ;-). I'll
come up with a solution where this behaviour can be configured per
language.

But in your international version is says:
 if ($min=35) {$hour=$hour+1};

Yep, I took this from the English version. I have a plan, but not the time
yet.

Ok, I hope this one is better: the hour correction is now configurable
using strings. Similarly to the minutes strings, there are correction
strings which are 0 for no correction, or some other value (usually +1
around 30minutes) if you want correction. This should allow for very
flexible and language specific strings.

Please give this a try. Thanks for the feedback!

Already done this as a screensaver a year ago. Use this for all my four

Text yet only available in Swedish though... (It is trying to say:
 twenty past nine)

nifty. If you've made it available for download, and used string
tokens in your code, I'm sure you'll find lots of people willing to
start translating.

 Hey all plugin coders...

It would be cool if someone here was able to provide us, the community,

It displays time with words instead of numbers... See URL!

 Thanks in advance! :)

KDE has done this forever, set the clock type to Fuzzy :) Just
saying that could be a good place to mine code from.
