I haven't had serious attempts, but everybody's threshold is different.
In my case, I'm mostly concerned about my parents. Though they try (my
mother at least), they are not technologically savvy and from time to
time they've clicked on links they shouldn't. My father stopped short of
sending his banking data to "the post office" because he received a
phishing link at the time he was also waiting a parcel from me when I
was living in Canada (he's in Spain) and he really thought he needed to
pay customs that way.

Madness like this doesn't help either
https://www.troyhunt.com/thanks-fedex-this-is-why-we-keep-getting-phished/

After that, I looked for solutions for them and I found dns0.eu, which
is a European NGO founded by the same guys that started Quad9 and offers
anti-malware public DNS servers. I've set up zero.dns0.eu (the most
restrictive kind) on their phones, computers and home router and I'm
able to sleep a bit better at night.

I use the less-restrictive version of that, just in case; the "hardcore"
version interfere with some systems at work. One never knows when he's
going to be too trustworthy.

Cheers,

I got nailed a year or two ago. A member of the organization I run asked
me to PayPal $500 to someone in the Philippines to buy something, and
they would only take PayPal. The site sold ancient coins, and that's the
sort of thing this member was interested in, so it sounded very good.

I asked some questions, using the email address in our files, and got
responses that mentioned items in our recent newsletter and referring to
events from decades ago we both knew about, and given that relationship,
I made the payment.

Obviously, I never got his covering check, and instead was asked to
PayPal a larger amount to some individual for no reason. I balked, said
I'd wait for his first check to clear, and never heard back.

Pretty clearly, our member had his email hacked, and a diligent
fraudster did his homework reading through old emails to convince me.
I'm pretty ashamed, but I have to respect the amount of effort they put in.

Cheers,

The most critical thing is to buy time. I got a very convincing call from a guy
saying my insurance has lapsed and I need to pay Rs 50,000 to revive it. The
language that the guy spoke indicated that he has worked for a few years in the
industry. I refused to pay immediately online and asked for the details. After
the call, I immediately checked with the insurance company call center and they
said no such policy number exists and confirmed that this is a scam that is
going around.

Another caller said, since I recently purchased a car, I will get two hotel
nights free if I come for a presentation that evening. I said I will check with
my wife and get back. I checked online for the reviews of this company and
those were pretty nasty. Blocked the number.

Just buy time. Never respond immediately.

Yeah, I just ask for more information and some time.
I got a call "from customs" saying there was a parcel stuck at customs and
I would be fined 1 lakh or something, and they "transferred the call to a
FedEx guy" and I said, ok give me the tracking number so I can look it up
and get back to you. Immediately hung up.

They try to hurry you, which is the point of the scam, to make you rush
into things.

Cordially,
