The 3.81.01 number on bugtracker appeared before the 3.80.xx releases.
I am confused by this--I don't even know whether there *is* a 3.81.01.

The latest numbered listing at http://files.nobat.ru/filemap/thebat3xx.html
is 3.80.06.

FWIW, I don't see a bug fix for this on the changelog, either.

Everything is not always listed on the change logs.

I think we have to wait and see the next beta version, whatever it
turns out to be numbered.

:) Thanks, Alex.

The thing is, that my original complaint was too limited. The part I
complained about was fixed in v. 3.80.01.

However, others began to point out the lack of visibility of other
buttons in the folder dialogue window, and it did seem as if there was
some relation.

In my testing for this latest thread I identified two difficulties
remaining:

1) The interaction with Windows dpi settings larger than 96 results in
various boxes and buttons being imperfectly drawn or not appearing at
all.

2) The scrollable menus for setting values for Maximum number of
stored messages and Keep messages in base for (days) is designed
way too far to the right.

These actually may not be fixed in a now-existing v. 3.81.01, since
these two were not even added to the BT issue report until after that
note Fixed was entered.

It's possible that instead of all these various reports on unusable or
unviewable boxes and buttons, that the still existing problems deserve
separate reports.

However, I did describe the situation in a BT note after Greg Strong's
note on May 18, 2006. See:

 https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5817

So I think everything will eventually get sorted out. Meanwhile, there
is a cumbersome work-around:

Set dpi at 96 or lower value; and drag the folder-properties dialogue
window out to the full width of the screen, so the boxes with
scrollable menus will show, as they do in Account/Properties.

Or else run a version before these problems cropped up--such as
3.72.01 or earlier.

Folder properties/Windows dpi-setting bug [was Re: The Bat! 3.80.03 is now available]

2006-05-19 Thread Mary Bull
Hello Greg!

On Thursday, May 18, 2006, 10:22 PM, you wrote:

G Well I have this problem with the new release. When I try to resize
G folder properties it doesn't help. I still can't see the number of days.

PO Are you using large fonts / larger than the default?

 Yes.

PO If so, you may want to join the BT issues submitted by Mary.

 I've added a note to https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5817. I
believe this is the correct BT. Otherwise please correct me. Thanks!

Thanks, Greg. I've seen your note, and I've just completed some
testing. Large fonts in Windows/Desktop/Properties/Appearance does
not seem to affect the problem--when set to Normal fonts there, the
difficulty remains.

The dpi setting in Windows/Properties/Settings/Advanced does affect
the non-appearing boxes. Usually I have this set to Large (120 dpi).

1) I changed it to Normal (96 dpi). You have to restart the computer
for this to take effect, incidentally.

2) After doing this, and checking in Folder Properties the boxes for
Maximum number of stored messages and Keep messages in the base for
(days), I still could not see the boxes to set the values.

3) So, I dragged the dialogue box out to its maximum width. At the far
right, the boxes with scrollable menus to set the number values
appeared, just as one can see them in TB!/Account/Properties/Options.

I conclude from doing all this testing that the problem is two things:

1) TB! is interacting improperly with the Windows dpi setting for
values above 96 dpi.

2) The scrollable boxes in TB!/Folder properties/General are designed
to appear too far to the right of the dialogue window.

I'm adding a note about my test results to
 https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5817.

Larger fonts will be the future (for everyone) without doubt. I hope
that screen resolutions will increase A LOT in the future (something
like 2400x1800 on a 19 desktop TFT for example), it would allow much
more realistic font rendering and better overall readability for
everyone.

The problem currently are the really small icons of some applications in
higher resolutions. Windows XP already provides larger icons, and TBs
default toolbar icons are good, too, but obviously, the large font
handling needs improvement.

Folder properties dialogue window[was Re: The Bat! 3.80.03 is now available]

Hello Ian!

 Properties dialog.

The lowest row of buttons is now not cut short, but the right hand
pane of the dialog is always truncated and this cannot be altered by
resizing the dialog. It is not just the buttons that are always
truncated, but even the text when you pick the Template (not the
contents of the template which will probably also be truncated if it
was wide enough) entry in the left pane (see attached image).

Confirmed. I see this most clearly when I click on the Additional
tab.

Folder properties dialogue scrollbar [was Re: The Bat! 3.80.03 is now available]

Hello Peter!

IAW Properties dialog.

Here's another one: the horizontal scroll bar is not always displayed
for New Message and such template edit panes. It will appear once you
cursor one character position beyond the last character on a line.

Confirmed. And it will stay, then, until the window is closed. Then
when you relaunch it, it's gone again.

Oh, I first noticed it several betas ago, but forgot to mention it.

I hadn't noticed that at all--I guess because I don't often have to
set folder properties--usually depend on Address Book templates.

But, when I want to set folder properties, I like to see a
functioning, professional-appearing dialogue window.

Kindly advise what differences are between the RC (which was also
