Unless I am dreaming, I seem to recall an option that one could access a sent message and edit it as if it were a new message. I thought that one could access that function by right-clicking on the message in the sent folder. However, that no longer appears to be an option. generic icon appears in place of The Bat icon in task bar
Hi, I just updated to ver.5.1.1. After updating the The Bat image icon disappeared from the task bar. I thought that by right-clicking on the generic icon and then right-cliicking on "The Bat" appliaction and then on "properties" I could fix the problem by clicking on "change icon" and browse for the .ico file, which was in the root directory for The Bat. However, that merely changed the image that appears in the properties shortcut window tab. I have rebooted several times, but that doesn't help. Can't see embedded pictures - usually
Another "feature" of the upgraded version of The Bat is that I do not get to see 90% of the embedded pictures. The account was a long-standing account and the one that I use most frequently, so it is not as if there was an incorrect password. The status bar merely said that 0 messages were downloaded. The log said "invalid pointer operation." I believe some error messages did appear occasionally up when I was having the problem and they may have said what the log shows (invalid pointer operation). The best explanation is that my computer may have groaned under the weight of too many open windows: probably over 50 at the time (I was mutli-tasking and had a lot going on). Why is TB downloading all server mail and not just new messages?
I have TB set up to download mail via POP and leave mail on the server for 180 days. (IMAP doesn't seem to play nicely with The Bat, and, in any event, for back-up purposes, I prefer to have my own copy of all e-mail so that it can then be backed up through my own back-up protocols.)The reason for leaving mail on the server is to enable another computer, which is used more as a backup and is not used as frequently, to be able to download mail from the same accounts. It also ensures that the mail is available for the cell phone. For nearly 15 years this has worked just fine. Today, I am now experiencing a situation in which TB is now attempting to download all ~4000 messages currently on the server and not just the new messages, of which there are are only less than a dozen. (I have stopped the process before it downloads more than a few dozen, each time I try.) This just started happening today. Last night the download process was working properly. What is curious is that this only happens with one of three accounts that I have on the same server/webmail mail host.These are NOT gmail accounts. However, as an aside, I do not have this problem with any of the gmail accounts that I also have. What is causing this problem and how can I fix it? Sure, I can download all 4000 messages and remove the duplicates, but (a) that takes time and (b) if the problem recurs I really need to known how to solve the problem I notice on the toolbar, under "Account," there is a command: "dispatch mail on server," and then there is a choice for either "new messages" (ctrl + F2) or "all messages." (shift+ctrl+F2). Is it possible that this is the source of the problem and that I unwittingly pressed "shift+ctrl+F2" at some point? Title: messages do not display toolbars and menu headings following upgrade While not happy about it, I upgraded to 9.1.18 because I could not send outgoing mail through The Bat for any of my gmail accounts due to the TLS and handshake security problems discussed here last month. However immediately following the upgrade, I have observed that when I open up a message, none of the menu headings (Message, Specials, etc) nor the toolbar will display unless and until I hover my mouse over the individual menu headings and toolbar buttons. This is so even though under "view" the "standard and "quick search" toolbars are checkmarked. Does anyone know why this is and what I can do so that I don't have to take the time to hover my mouse over space where the menu items and buttons are located in order to see them? -- Avi Avram Sacks, using The Bat! Restoring lost mail and application through data recovery
The unthinkable happened to my wife's laptop: sudden death of her SSD. Unfortunately, we were blissfully ignorent of the fact that the external backup was not backing up at all, and hasn't been for the life of this laptop. We have sent the SSD to a data recovery service. That service requires us to identify the location of folders and files that we want recovered. On her laptop, The Bat likely resides where it does on my laptop: within the Program Files folder. But, the mail folder tree appears elsewhere: under Users\Avram\AppData\Roaming\TheBat! So, what files/folders do we need to recover in order restore all mail on the new SSDI? What file extensions should be looked for? I have nearly two dozen subfolders into which mail is sorted. Finally, in order to restore the application what is the file that should be recovered?Is it the .exe file, or the .msi file, or something different? I do have the product key, if needed. The lost application was an early iteration of version 8 of The Bat! Pro. Upon rebooting, the problem did not disappear. However, the access violation number is different. The sent mail folder shows that there are messages there, but the screen is blank when I click on that folder. Any ideas on how to fix this? Access violation message
Last night I attempted to access the "send" folder of one of my primary e-mail account.It only holds 3,145 messages. The in-box for this account has 22,481 messages, and another folder within this account has 5,700 messages. However, I received an error messages as follows: Access violation at address 007D551A in module 'thebat64.exe'. Read of address 08001E09EE38 This problem only manifested with this folder and no other. The in-box of this account was fine, as were the sent-mail folders of the other accounts that I checked. I have over a dozen different e-mail accounts. I did not check all of them. I tried to access sent mail several times to no avail. I then opened up the maintenance center and ran the maintenance tool for all accounts About 11 GB of space was freed up and I was able to access the sent mail folder for this account. Today, I attempted to again access the sent mail folder for this same account, and received nearly the exact same error message. This time, the "Read address" is slightly different. So, I ran the maintenance tool, again. The same error message appears.I will close all files and reboot to see if this fixes anything. mail messages open up as new instance of application
Hi, I don't know how to properly describe this, but when I open up a message, a new window of The Bat opens up (in addition to the existing window) with the message appearing within the window below the message list taps. This just started this morning when I turned on the computer, after I opened up the application. How can I restore the configuration to what it had been such that the message opens up by itself? When the application is opened up, initially, individual message text does not appear below the message tabs. That is, message auto-view is not turned on. However, when a message is opened, it appears as if message auto view is "on" in the new window; however, the "Workspace," "options," and "help" toolbar headings do not appear, so it is not as if I could just "turn off" message auto view in the new window. -- Avi Avram Sacks, using The Bat! Even though there are no tbk. folders that are current, there was a system backup to an external hard drive from November 2015 which has the Bat! folder, and there is also the installation on my laptop that is now working. My wife and I have nearly identical setups, with all 24 accounts. She would be missing, however, her sent mail, if we tried to install my version of The Bat on her laptop. Suggestions, anyone? (PS - I will be taking a short, technology-free vacation, and will be offline Friday night through Monday evening. I will be back online late Monday night.) One problem is no sooner solved when another presents itself. My wife also uses The Bat on her laptop. She experienced the same problem that I had been having, with not being able to send mail from the 1and1.com accounts. Her e-mail setup is nearly identical to mine: we both have the same 24 accounts and accessibility to each of them.Because she was having the same problem, I thought that upgrading her from ver 5.8.8 to 7.1 would help solve for her the problem I had had in not being able to send e-mail from the 1and1.com accounts. Unfortunately, after the upgraded file loaded, ALL of the account title lines were missing the names of the accounts (but the folders and e-mail within each folder were intact as were the total message and unread message count for each account). Clicking on the empty title lines revealed the properties pages, which shows that all of the SMTP and mail servers were blank and the ports were listed as "0"!! Help! I do I restore this information? A few hours ago I wrote that I would update to ver 7 and try again to send e-mail from my 1and1.com accounts. Sadly, despite having upgraded to ver 7, I am STILL unable to send e-mail from my 1and1.com accounts. I will either have to abandon The Bat or find another e-mail host. The present situation is not tenable. One solution means a lot of downtime in altering settings and transferring files., or altering settings and losing web-based files. Neither one of the solutions is optimal. Preferably, the Bat developers and the administrators at 1and1.com would sit down together to figure out how to solve this problem. unable to send messages from four of 24 accounts
Hi, I have about 24 different e-mail accounts. All but five are various gmail accounts. One is a Yahoo account and four use private domains that I set up with 1&1.com Until Tuesday of this week, everything worked fine. However, starting Tuesday evening, for no apparent reason, I cannot SEND mail from the accounts with the private domains IF I try to send from within The Bat e-mail client. I CAN send e-mail from these accounts if I go online and use 1&1 webmail's facility to send the e-mail. These domains can RECEIVE e-mail sent from outside domains, but I cannot SEND mail from the domains when I try to send e-mail from within The Bat e-mail client. I can send and receive from the gmail and yahoo domains. I did not change any settings. I am at a conference and am using the hotel's guest wi-fi to connect to the Internet. That connection is working fine. Also while at the conference I WAS able to send e-mail from the accounts in question. However several hours later I was no longer able to send e-mail from these 1&1.com private domain accounts. What is causing this problem? A cold re-boot did not fix it. It also makes no difference if I try to send a reply to a prior message or if I compose a new message.Nor does it make a difference if I compose the letter as an HTML document or if I compose it as text only. sorting filters not working consistently
Hi, I rely on filters extensively in a number of different mail accounts. Most of the time they work as expected. However, in one account, which is dedicated to third-party vendors with whom I do business, some of the filters no longer seem to be working, even though the text for which the filters searches has not changed. Here is an example: I have done business with Hampton Hotels and now get their promotional e-mail. The from field for each message from this vendor is: Hampton Hotels hamp...@h1.hilton.com. I have a filter that searches sender for hamp...@h1.hilton.com It used to work, but not any more. I tried to add a filter that searched the header field from for Hampton Hotels hamp...@h1.hilton.comBut that didn't help. I compared the RFC-822 headers from a message for which the filter worked with the RFC-822 headers from a message that did not get filtered and saw no difference between the two for the fields in question. I have a similar problem with about seven other filters. Any idea as to why I am having this problem? Changing default reply for reply button on toolbar
I subscribe to a number of different e-mail lists and will occasionally reply to posts on these various lists. For some lists, for any given incoming message, the Reply to field is populated with the e-mail address of the post's author, while the to field is populated with the list address. For other lists, such as TBUDL, both the to field as well as the reply to field have the list address. When I hit the reply button for posts in the first group, the to field of the outgoing message will go directly to the author of the post to which I am replying. However, for any given incoming message in the second group, if I hit the reply button on the toolbar, the to field of the outgoing post is populated with the e-mail address of the list. However, a casual glance at the to field of the outgoing message doesn't always alert me to the fact that a message intended as private might be going to the entire list. This is because the text in the To field will read some thing like this: John A. Doe tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com What is inside the carets is what the e-mail client sees and responds to, not what is inside the quotation marks.If I was careful, I would always look closely at the to field of the outgoing message and make sure that the message is being sent to John Doe and not to the list, if I want a message to be private. However, I am sometimes distracted and fail to catch this. As a result, messages that are intended for only one set of eyes might be read by 600 people and it can be embarrassing. The way to solve this would be to reset the reply button on the toolbar so that the default reply is to what appears in the From field of the incoming message for which I am sending a reply. Is this possible? Can I reset the default for that reply button so that it populates the to field of the outgoing message with the text that appears in the from field of the message to which I am replying? Hi, All, I occasionally copy inbox messages to client folders in Windows Explorer. However, the file date for the message (as shown in Windows Explorer, not within the message itself) then appears as the date that the message was saved to the folder, rather than the actual message date. Without changing the time and date on the computer clock, which I do not want to do, is it possible to copy a message into a folder such that the file name reflects the date and time that the message was created? sending and receiving encrypted messages
Is it possible to selectively encrypt messages such that only certain messages that are sent out are encrypted? Will any attached files also be encrypted? I have a client concerned about privacy and would like to be able to send encrypted messages to the client with attachments. How does this work? Can I encrypt only messages to him without encrypting my entire data base? If I send him an encrypted message, how will he unencrypt the message? He does not use The Bat. Can he send encrypted messages to me through his own e-mail client using The Bat encryption technology? These questions may seem incredibly naive, but I really don't know how this works. The Help Topics facility talks in terms of having an encrypted database. But, all I want to do is to encrypt certain messages. Not all of them. If they were all encrypted, then anyone I sent messages to would have to have a key to read them, correct? -- Avi Using The Bat! data files on computer B but working directory on computer A?
Hi all. I am hoping you can help me fix what appears to me to be a very unusual problem. For years Desktop “A” served as the location for the data files for The Bat! for both my installation of The Bat! and my wife's installation of The Bat! on Laptop “B.” I also have a new laptop we will call Laptop “C. In order to be able to travel with my new laptop and have full mail accessibility, I decided to untether all use of The Bat! from Desktop A. I installed The Bat! on to C and copied the data directory from A to C. In addition, I copied the data directory from A to B and then changed the properties of all the mail accounts on Laptop B to point to the new data directory on laptop B. (With these changes I made sure that all mail stays on the server for 90 days in order to ensure that the same mail gets downloaded to both laptops.) I no longer download mail to A. All this time, Desktop A has remained functional and stays on. However, it is no longer used for mail. The Bat! has been functioning normally on both laptops ever since data files were transferred to them nearly two months ago On Friday, my wife was using The Bat! on her laptop, when she received an error message that stated: Failed to create working directory. \\Desktop A\c\MAIL\ I discovered that A had been shut down. Once A is booted, The Bat! can be opened on B. The Bat! has been functioning without any problem on C, whether A is on or not, however, I never used C while pointing to A for the mail directory as I did with B. The data directory for The Bat! on B shows dates for April 25 (the last day The Bat! was used on B before A was shut down) while the data directory on A shows the last date for any file being March 9, 2014, the date files were copied to B and C. I checked all 21 mail accounts on B and they all show in the properties that the data files are all located on B. So, why does the “working directory” need to be on “A” in order for The Bat! on B to work? Is there an elegant way to change the working directory from A to B? Do I need to uninstall The Bat! on B and then resinstall it in order to ensure that use of this application is completely untethered from A? spontaneous sending of outbox messages
On occasion I will draft a message that I do not send. I place it in the outbox for later reference for the content, but there is no intention to mail the letter. Most of these messages have the to field completed with the originally intended recipient. Sometimes I will have sent an alternate note to the person; sometimes I will just pick up the phone and (horrors) actually have a live conversation with the individual. Today, however, I have discovered, due to two e-mail replies and one telephone call, that at least three of these outbox messages were sent within the last 24 hours. The sent messages do not appear in my sent folder and the recipients report that the date of the note is the original date, such as November 1, 2013. Why is my outbox sending out its messages? Should I assume all outbox messages in all accounts were sent? (I have over 24 different e-mail accounts.) What is going on? The Bat process keeps running after app is closed
My pc's shutdown process generated an End Program pop up notice headlined, End Program - thebat that stated This program is not responding. My choices are to either end now or cancel. The Bat was closed so I looked at the processes running under Task Manager and saw that thebat.exe was running. IIRC, it was 284k. So, I reopened and closed The Bat, and the same thing happened. Now, I can just end the process, but why is a process running in the background when The Bat is closed? Perhaps this is somehow related to the stream write error message problem that has never been resolved? In my case, I can access my account from phone or tablet as IMAP, and from TB as POP. Well, having started this thread, I would like to bring it back to my problem: which is synching the use of The Bat on two computers so that I can access my accounts from either computer. After having placed a separate installation of TB on my new laptop for several days, and with the situation that each computer has its own message base, and with respect to both gmail and private domain accounts, mail is allowed to remain on the server after download for at least 90 days with respect to gmail, forever, I have been able to determine several things: a. mail on my private domains gets downloaded to both computers, so long as the download is within the time the mail is set to remain on the server b. mail that is sent from one computer is not seen by the other computer unless I copy myself on the message c. once gmail is downloaded to one computer, it will not download to the other computer. When I look at the gmail settings for my account on the internet, I see that POP is enabled for all mail after a given date in 2006; and that IMAP is enabled. Thus, gmail is set up for BOTH POP and IMAP. I like the idea of being able to download the mail to my computer rather than run the risk of having it sit out on a server in the middle of who knows where. So, it seems the only way to ensure that mail on both computers is synched is to use some sort of synching program. On a related thread, Adding The Bat to a new computer on a home network Jack La Rosa recommended www.wuala.com to use for synching folders on two computers. G-mail is left on the server forever, so it's not as if it is being deleted upon download. Moreover, I can still see the newly downloaded e-mail on my cell phone. So, why does a download to one computer on the network preclude a download of the same mail to the second computer?Is it because the computers are using the IP address on the public side of the modem?If so, is there any solution besides using a synchronization program? Synchronization is fine while both computers are inside on the same network.But, if I go away for a business trip for a 2-4 days, and I download mail, then my wife won't see it until I return. Thanks, MFPA, for your response. I solved the problem by deleting the empty folder on the second computer. I then deleted the virtual folder on the first computer. Then, I created a new virtual folder on the first computer, but this time, instead of creating the folder as a plain old new virtual folder I created a New Common Virtual Folder.And this time, instead of it being a subfolder of the inbox, I made it a subfolder of the root folder.This time it worked! I opened TB on the second computer and the new virtual folder magically appeared, with all of the mail it was supposed to reflect. Unable to restore from backup to new laptop
OK. Anxious to set up TB! on my new laptop, I was unable to wait for a response to my most recent post, and went ahead and followed the advice that Thomas Fernandez gave in his post from Feb. 18, 2014. a. I downloaded the .msi file for thebat_pro_6-0-0.msi to my laptop, as copied from my older computer and ran it. b. I also plugged into the laptop an external hard drive, which had a backup folder with the file, autobackup.tbk. c. When I opened the newly installed TB! on my laptop, I was prompted to designate a location for the data file and specified the default location (The Bat! in Application Data). d. I then was prompted to either set up an account or restore from backup. I restored from the .tbk file on my external hard drive. Initially, I was asked which of my accounts I wanted to restore and specified all of them. e. Next, the Maintenance Center appeared saying Restore is in progress. Please wait - it can be a long process... But almost immediately an access violation pop up appeared. I clicked ok and it disappeared, but the Maintenance Center was left hanging.No progress showed in the window, and I couldn't cancel or delete it. After about a half hour, I used Task Manager to shut down TB!. f. I uninstalled the TB! I also tried to use System Restore to go back to a point in time prior to installation of the TB!. The laptop refused to complete that process and suggested my anti-virus was preventing that from taking place. However, disabling the anti-virus did not resolve this problem, so, I gave up trying to use system restore. g. Since TB! had successfully uninstalled, I tried to reinstall TB! TB! reinstalled, but this time, I was not prompted about which accounts to set up or download from system restore, nor was I prompted to choose a location for the data files. Also, this time, when TB! opened, the folder tree showed all my accounts, but they were all empty! 10. I went to tools/restore in TB! and attempted to restore from the file on the external harddrive. The same thing happened as before: an access violation pop up appeared. This time it reads: Access violation at address 00DE7C52 in module TheBat.exe. Read of address . I clicked OK and exited out of this; however I did leave the maintenance center open even though no progress is appearing in the window. I will leave this where it is at all night, but I expect nothing to come of it. So, why am I getting an access violation message? Does it have anything to do with the fact that the backup was created by ver. 5.8.2 of TB!, but I used the 6.0.0 msi file to set up TB on my laptop? Setting up a virtual folder on connected computers
Going along with my theme of interconnectivity of TB on a home network, I have found that where one computer looks to the second computer for the message base, I am also able to create subfolders within an account on the primary computer and it will be seen by the second computer.However, I also discovered that while a virtual folder created on the primary computer is also seen by the second computer, the second computer treats the virtual folder as a regular folder and NOT as a virtual folder. And, the new folder, on the second computer is empty, even though, on the primary computer it has over 12,000 messages.Why is that? How do I get this folder to operate as a virtual folder on the second computer? Should I just delete it, and manually create the virtual folder? Hello Tbudl, I have recently expanded my home network to include three computers. Previously, it had one desktop and one laptop. I have added a new laptop, and now want to use the desktop for no other purpose than as a dedicated mail server so that regardless of which laptop is on site, the other laptop will be able to download and see mail. (When offsite, either laptop can use webmail to see the mail.) However, as I explain below, I see some problems. The primary installation of The Bat is on the desktop. In July 2010, when the first laptop was acquired, I asked how to set up The Bat so that both computers could see the same files. It was suggested I create a backup of The Bat on the desktop. Then use the .msi file from the desktop to setup The Bat on the laptop, but then, instead of creating an account, restore, using the backup. I did that. However, I notice that new mail folders and sorting rules subsequently created on the desktop are not seen on the laptop. Why is that?Before setting up The Bat on the second laptop, can someone explain to me how I can set up The Bat on our little home network so that any folder or rule created on one laptop, will be seen on the other laptop? The Bat process continues to run after app is closed, sometimes
My pc's shutdown process generated an End Program pop up notice headlined, End Program - thebat that stated This program is not responding. My choices are to either end now or cancel. The Bat was closed so I looked at the processes running under Task Manager and saw that thebat.exe was running. IIRC, it was 284k. So, I reopened and closed The Bat, and the same thing happened. Now, I can just end the process, but why is a process running in the background when The Bat is closed? Perhaps this is somehow related to the stream write error message problem that has never been resolved? (See my earlier post from Dec 2) Bottom line question, though, is, why would a process be running for The Bat after having closed the application? Hello Jernej, To recap for others reading this, On October 21, I reported the following problem: I am getting annoying error messages in pop-up boxes that read as follows: Stream write error C:\MAIL\Events.CFG The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file. Clicking OK or the X will remove the box, but it will pop up again in a few minutes. If I go away from the computer for a long period of time, upon return I will find dozens and dozens of boxes sitting on top of the open window of The Bat. The error messages are sporadic in that they don't always appear in every session of The Bat. If the messages appear on my computer, they will also appear on my wife's computer, which has The Bat, installed, but points to the mail files on my computer. What causes this error message and how do I get rid of this permanently? ...The only way to temporarily solve the problem is to fully shutdown the computer and then reboot. Sometimes this will work, sometimes it won't. However, even when this works, the problem eventually reappears after a number of days or weeks. How can I fix this? setting e-mail sharing preferences in Adobe Elements 9 organizer to specify The Bat!
Fellow Bat users, I am stumped. Is it possible to set file sharing preferences in Adobe Elements 9 so as to specify The Bat as the e-mail client? Background: We use Adobe Photoshop Elements and it supposedly makes it easy to share pictures via e-mail. All one has to do is click on e-mail attachments, drag phots to a sharing tray, write the message, select recipients from an address book, click next, and you are done. One small problem: Adobe assumes the entire world uses Microsoft Outlook, and, if you don't you can go to preferences and change the e-mail client. Unfortunately, Adobe locks in three options: Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail, or Adobe E-mail Service. I find Adobe's forums totally useless, so I am hoping that someone on this list knows a work-around that will allow me to set The Bat as my e-mail preference for sharing photos. Otherwise, the only way to attach photos in The Bat is by going to Utilities and attach a file. But, this is tedious when you have to navigate a file tree and find one, two, five or ten pictures amongst 10,000 pictures, all of which are in multiple levels of folders. It would be a lot easier to be able to use Adobe Elements, but that application seemingly permits its e-mail sharing facility to only be used by users of one of the three e-mail clients mentioned above. Moreover, another computer in the house that points to The Bat files on the primary computer continued to produce the stream write error messages, even after I fixed the problem on the primary computer. Stream write error
I am getting annoying error messages that read as follows: Stream write error C:\MAIL\Events.CFG The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file. The error message appears in a pop up box in The Bat. Clicking OK or the X will remove the box, but it will pop up again in a few minutes.If I go away from the computer for a long period of time, upon return I will find dozens and dozens of boxes just like, sitting on top of the open window of The Bat. The error messages are sporadic in that they don't always appear in every session of The Bat. If the messages appear on my computer, they will also appear on my wife's computer, which has The Bat, installed, but points to the mail files on my computer. What causes this error message and how do I get rid of this permanently? The error had appeared on an older computer that I still use (but not for The Bat). After transferring The Bat to a newer computer (but still used), the messages didn't appear for many months. However, following a series of Windws upgrades, the messages are back.The only way to temporarily solve the problem is to fully shutdown the computer and then reboot. Sometimes this will work, sometimes it won't. However, even when this works, the problem eventually reappears after a number of days or weeks. How can I fix this? -- Avi Using The Bat! Hi, all. Is it possible to create a message in TB that has hanging indents? I have searched both the archives and the Help facility and have found nothing. It would appear to be possible because one can have a bulleted or numbered list in HTML, but I don't want the bullets or the numbers as listed. I want my own hanging indents. associating The Bat with Google Chrome
When ever there is a web link embedded in an e-mail and I click on that link, Internet Explorer is used to open the web page. How do I go about changing this so that the default browser is Google Chrome (which loads wy faster!). Hi, When I open up The Bat, I get the following error message: PostMessage to NULL handle, Msg = 3021, wParam = 0, lParam = o The Bat seems to operate fine, otherwise (except for filtering issue reported earlier, that I haven't yet dealt with). Any ideas as to what is causing this? This is a much belated public thank you to Rick and Marck for their helping me to learn how to embed a jpeg image into an outgoing mass mailing template. Ultimately, I learned that my older version of The Bat did not allow me to do what I wanted to do and I needed to upgrade, which I did, from 4.0.18 to 4.2.44.2. This made a huge difference. Being able to set up a template that allows for me to send a personalized e-mail via a mass mailing, using my contact list, highlights the beauty of The Bat. Hi, everyone, I want to send an invitation to a group. I created a group of contacts (Invitation to Friends and Relatives). However, I want each recipient to see only their own name and e-mail address in the to field. If I put the group name in the to field, such as Invitation to Friends and Relatives list the every display name and e-mail address appears in the to field of a recipient's e-mail. On the other hand, if I place either individual e-mail addresses OR the group name in the BCC field, NO address appears in the header. That is, the to field is blank. (1) Is there a way to send an e-mail to a group such that ONLY the recipient's e-mail address appears in the to field? Related to this question is how the recipient's address actually appears. Let's say John Doe is married to Jane and has an e-mail address, john...@gmail.com. When I send an invitation to John and Jane, I just don't want the to field to show the e-mail address, or even John's first name. Rather, I would want the to field to show something like: John and Jane Doe john...@gmail.com I thought I could set up each contact's nickname to reflect how I would want the names to appear in the to field, but it appears that only the display name is grabbed for this purpose. Can I change it so that the nickname is grabbed? Right now, in order to get the names to appear the way I want them is to place in the first name field for the contact, the following: John and Jane Is this correct, is this what I have to do in order to yield an address that appears: John and Jane Doe john...@gmail.com (3) Finally, I want to personalize each e-mail by placing into the the e-mail's salutation whatever I have placed in a contact's Nickname. Sometimes it will be Dear John and Jane but other times the salutation will be Dear, John, Jane, and Charlie where Charlie is John and Jane's minor child, who lives with them. adding account to two computers
Hi, We use two computers for The Bat in our home office. Each pc has an identical account list. Each downloads mail independently from the same servers. I recently added a new mail account to the list of accounts on one computer. I attempted to add this same account to the other pc by copying and pasting the account folder from one pc to the other using windows explorer. However, when I opened up The Bat on the second pc, the new account does not show up. What did I do wrong and how can I fix this? Do I have to create from scratch the new account on the second PC as well? Hi, again, Does anyone know why, when I open The Bat, the application will open, but with NO messages in the message list? The menu on the left will open, but no messages appear on the right. I have to close and reopen anywhere from 3-6 times before the message list appears. FWIW, I DO have an aging machine--in six days it will be 10 years old. And, it's hard drive is 96% filled. Could this have something to do with it? I also have a LOT of e-mail. Considering the age of your PC, RO the size of your message base and presuming that you open TB as soon RO as your system is starting, I think that your pc is still busy doing RO its startup stuff and that it doesn't have the processing power to do RO everything at the same time. Maybe, but I just emptied a bunch of trash bins, got rid of a number of large size messages and ran the maintenance center on everything to get rid of duplicated messages and compressed everything. I closed The Bat and then tried to reopen. The first time, it hung for a bunch of minutes. I then closed the application and reopened immediately. This time it promptly opened up without any hanging. RO What might help is making your folders smaller, that means more of RO them, but TB needs time to read the folder and a larger folderr takes RO more time to open than a small folder. scanning to TB e-mail
Hi, everyone. How does one configure a setup to enable a printer to scan a document and attach it to an e-mail, automatically? I have a Brother MFC8840D. It allows me to scan to e-mail. I configured the printer's software control box to designate The Bat as my e-mail client. When I click on the scan to e-mail button, the printer will scan and The Bat will open up a dialogue box asking me to indicate which of my accounts I want to send the e-mail from and for a password. When I indicate the account and password, a blank e-mail will open up, but there is no attachment. missing all mail in several folders
Hi, Mail appears to be missing in a number of mail folders, even though the mail can be seen on the mother computer. Can you help me fix this? Background: We use The Bat on two computers, a desktop (DT) and a laptop (LT) which are networked. The original installation was on the DT. All mail folders on the LT''s installation of The Bat points to the folders on the DT as the source folders for the messages. Mail is obtained from both gmail as well as several other domains and flows into over a dozen different e-mail addresses. For most addresses, mail is further sorted into subfolders, depending upon the sender's name. However, at least three mailbox folders on the LT now display no messages, even though the size column displays a correct volume size, as shown on the DT. Most of the folders that are not displaying messages on the LT are inbox folders. However, these folders on the DT display all messages. Running the repair tool in the maintenance center yields messages that these folders cannot be repaired. Creating a folder on the LT named inbox new and pointing to the inbox folder on the DT yields nothing. I have run virus scans and everything comes up clean. The log file for at least one of the inboxes that displays no messages says for several messages 5/18/2011, 07:09:04: FETCH - could not store message (file name - C:\Users\Annette\AppData\Local\Temp\batC42.tmp) with Annette being the account name and the .tmp file name varies for each unstored message. Short of uninstalling The Bat on the LT and reinstalling it, is there anything else I can do to recover the messages on the laptop? By the say, for those folders for which no messages are displayed, when I click on properties and additional, the word browse is greyed out, thus preventing me from repointing the folder to the source data folder on the DT. How to get CC line to appear in printout
When printing messages that I have either sent or received, I want the CC line to appear. However, I am unable to get the names of the recipients and their e-mail addresses to appear. Currently, print setup is as follows: %CC=%BCC=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= From: %FromName %FromAddr To: %ToName %ToAddr CC: %CCName %CCAddr Date: %ODateEn %OTimeLongEn Subject: %Subj Folder: %FolderName/%AccountName -=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- %Text -=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I guessed what should go in the CC line, since that was not part of the default template. I obviously guessed wrong since what prints in the CC line is the following: CC: In other words, only the right and left arrows appear, and not the actual addresses. What do I put in the CC line of the print setup to insure that the names of all individuals that are CC'd and their addresses appear? I want this to be the default for all printed messages. After a lot of trial and error, I finally figured it out...but only partially. The instructions under help are not a model of clarity by any stretch of the imagination. However, I determined that by deleting the text: %CC= from the top and adding %CC to the CC field, I can get the recipients in the CC field to show when the mail message is printed: %BCC=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= From: %FromName %FromAddr To: %ToName %ToAddr CC: %CC Date: %ODateEn %OTimeLongEn Subject: %Subj -=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- %Text -=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- However, when I print a mail message with no CC'd individuals, the CC line appears and is blank. Can I have my cake and eat it too? I want the CC line to automatically appear in a print out when there are CC'd individuals and I want the CC line to automatically not appear at all when there are no CC'd individuals. Hi, all, I have used The Bat for 8 yrs 5 mos. I am replacing a computer on our home network with a laptop that uses Windows 7. a. any issues I need to be aware of in using the The Bat with Windows 7 before installing The Bat on the new computer? I currently use ver. 4.0.18. Is it necessary to download the latest version of the The Bat in order to make sure that The Bat will be compatible with Windows 7. junk plugins not installed?
Hi, everyone! After being spam free for as long as we have had a private domain, we are now occasionally receiving junk mail in the inbox of one of our private domain e-mail accounts (not the one used for this list). When deleting the e-mail, I clicked on specials/junk e-mail and received the following error message before the e-mail was shifted to the junk folder: No plug-ins with learning facilities installed. What plugins? What do I need to install to have this work? Transferring The Bat to new computer on 2 computer network
Hi, everyone, What is the best way to set up The Bat on a new computer when that computer is attached to a home network that has 2 computers running The Bat? It has been awhile since I added The Bat to a second computer, so, I don't recall exactly what I did. Currently, we have The Bat installed on two computers, a desktop and a laptop. The laptop is being replaced. The mail directory only resides on the desktop pc. The second computer, a laptop, has, under Account/Properties/Files and Directories the home directory pointing to the Mail folder of the desktop pc. Mail is only downloaded and stored on the desktop. However, the download operation can be initiated from either the desktop, or the laptop when it is connected to the network. Mail downloaded by one computer into the desktop Mail directory can be seen, read, replied to, etc., by either computer on the network. This setup allows two users on the home network to have access to the same mail, regardless of which computer is being used. What is the best way to install The Bat on the new laptop in order to retain account settings and allow both users to have the same access to downloaded mail? Should I download from the Ritlabs website a new installation of The Bat and then point the mail directory to the shared Mail folder on the desktop? If so, how do I make sure that all of the current settings, including the address book and 22 filters currently running, work on the new laptop? I suspect that there are registry entries that would need to be copied to the new laptop. Is this true? If so, how do I do that? The new laptop is running Windows 7 while the other computers are running Windows XP Pro SP3. Do I need to have the same version of The Bat running on all of the computers in order to insure that there won't be any file or registry entry conflicts? Finally, I am currently using ver. 4.0.18. Is the newest version ready for prime time? Am I better off staying with ver. 4.0.18? embedding pdf file in e-mail
I want to embed into an e-mail a pdf file. (Actually, it is an MS Pub 2003 file converted to a .pdf file). However, when I try to insert the image, I get an error message that says error file image loading. I have the format setting for the e-mail on HTML/Plain text. If I convert the Pub file to jpeg, there is loss of definition when I try to reduce the size of the image in the email. Is it not possible to embed pdf files into an e-mail? new mail account missing from networked computer
Hi, everyone, I recently set up a new mail account in The Bat on one of two computers connected to a router-based network. The desktop pc that I used to create the new account also functions in a server-like capacity so as to enable a network-connected laptop to download, read mail, and create new messages. It has been a while, so I don't recall exactly how I set this up, but I do remember that I separately installed The Bat on to the laptop, but then set options so as to point the application to access the mail folder on the desktop. I may have also done something with registry files, but I honestly don't recall. Mail downloaded on the desktop can be read on the laptop without a separate download, and any mail that is read on the desktop will show on the laptop as being read, and vice versa. So, clearly the laptop is looking at the same data folder as the desktop. However, the laptop does not seem to be able to see the new mail account. I even copied into the laptop's program directory file for The Bat the subfolder for the new account. Do you know if this type of network setup will work when running XP inside of VMware's Fusion?
