[Bug 1244713] Re: invalid syntax for check_ssh plugin

2013-10-26 Thread cyco
Please be so kind and merge 1.4.16-3 from Debian, which fixes this issue
(beside some small other once):

nagios-plugins (1.4.16-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Fixed check_squid* command definitions
  * Add double threshold to check_smtp (LP: #318703)
- 12_check_smtp_double_threshold.dpatch
  * Remove the additional argument from check_ssh and check_proc

[Bug 1244635] Re: setuid executables in a container may compromise security on the host

2013-10-26 Thread Andrea Corbellini
I also don't feel that this is a high priority bug since, so far, we
do not recommend allowing unprivileged users to use containers.

Agreed. Especially because (currently) it's fairly easy to escape from
LXC when you have root access to the container.

I don't believe it would be a serious loss of functionality to chmod 0700
 /var/lib/lxc.
 ...
So I think a regular update in trusty with SRUs to all previous releases is
 ok.

I've used this functionality many times in the past. While I can do
without it in exchange for security, some people may have written
scripts that depend on this functionality, hence a SRU would be nasty
for them.

My personal opinion is: LXC is insecure and it does not deserve
potentially dangerous security updates in stable releases.

[Bug 1244635] Re: setuid executables in a container may compromise security on the host

2013-10-26 Thread Stéphane Graber
For those users, getting back to the old way would be a chmod away and I
asked Serge to make sure permissions would only be changed once and not
with every update, so it should be a one time thing.

As for security, while we don't currently say LXC is secure on Ubuntu,
we're not aware of any way to escape a default container (Ubuntu on
Ubuntu) starting with 12.04 when running with all default settings
(specifically, under apparmor). If you know of a way to do so, I'd love
to hear about it so we can adapt our apparmor profile to prevent it.

[Bug 1244635] Re: setuid executables in a container may compromise security on the host

2013-10-26 Thread Andrea Corbellini
Hi Stéphane,

I can see at least three ways of escaping.

The first is using LXC through libvirt. I see that there's an Apparmor
profile for usr.bin.lxc-start, but AFAIK libvirt does not use lxc-start.
Also, libvirt does not load the lxc-containers profile (AFAIK).

This is proven by the fact that `cat
/sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles` does not fail when done from
within my LXC+libvirt guest.

Also, reading /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/lxc/container-base I see that
there are many deny rules, but you are missing at least two:
/sys/kernel/uevent_helper and /sys/class/mem/null/uevent. See
http://blog.bofh.it/debian/id_413 for a way for escaping using these two
files.

Finally, while there are rules that deny read and writes to /sys, but
there are no rules that deny me to e.g. `mount -t sysfs sysfs /tmp/sys`
or bind-mount /sys to an another location. (I'm not sure about this
point because, you know, I'm using libvirt and I cannot test.)

Right, libvirt-lxc isn't LXC (even though they sort of stole the name)
and is indeed completely unsafe...

As for the rest, I'm happy to report that you misread the apparmor profile and
that we thought of and blocked all of those from the beginning as is shown
below:
root@lxc-dev:/# echo abc /sys/kernel/uevent_helper
bash: /sys/kernel/uevent_helper: Permission denied

root@lxc-dev:/# echo abc /sys/class/mem/null/uevent
bash: /sys/class/mem/null/uevent: Permission denied

root@lxc-dev:/# mount -t sysfs syfs /mnt
mount: block device syfs is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: cannot mount block device syfs read-only

root@lxc-dev:/# mount --bind /sys /mnt

2013-10-26 Thread Andrea Corbellini
Good news.

However I must say that the documentation on LXC does not say that
libvirt is less secure than the official LXC:
https://help.ubuntu.com/13.10/serverguide/lxc.html#lxc-libvirt

So either libvirt should ship with an Apparmor profile for LXC, or a
warning should be added to the relevant places of the documentation

[Bug 1202905] Re: Display configuration lost with the last update of Linux

2013-10-26 Thread VinsS
Fixed, I've changed lightdm to gdm.

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm

Choose gdm in the dialog and reboot, that's all.

[Bug 1244881] [NEW] nvidia-319 black screen after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

2013-10-26 Thread Raymond Leung
Public bug reported:

I was on Ubuntu 13.04, just changed from nvidia-current to nvidia-319 a
few days ago.

Today, I decided to upgrade to 13.10, after reboot,
1. The login screen was in low resolution.
2. Then right after login, an error dialog pop-up saying detected system
problem, asking me whether to report the problem.
3. Further to proceed, then black screen with only mouse pointer freely to move.
4. Switched to command terminal tty1 (ctrl + alt + F1), logged in and used
apt-get to remove nvidia-319 and re-install nvidia-current nvidia-settings.
5. Rebooted and seems fine, the Report System Problem dialog pop-up again and
now being directed to here to report the problem.

[Bug 1057186] Re: Modem functionality of the Huawei E173 and E3131 doesn't work

2013-10-26 Thread Marius B. Kotsbak

at Fri May 31 13:03:49 2013 -0500

so Ubuntu should just upgrade to use that one, but it seems the focus
has been to integrate ofono for the Ubuntu touch devices recently.

DESCRIPTION

1. Draw two shapes (such as rectangles) which are offset diagonally and
join them with a connector, then drag the centre segment of the
connector sideways to skew it - see the upper illustration in the
attached file lo_skew_bug.png.

2. Save and close the file.

3. Re-open the file. The skew of the connector will be lost and the
image will look like the lower illustration in the attached file.

This is a regression from previous versions of LibreOffice. It appears
that the skew is lost on loading the file, as the skew is still
present if opening the file saved at step 2 above with OpenOffice Draw.

This problem also affects drawings embedded in Writer documents, which
exacerbates the effect as it can result in complex block diagrams being
corrupted without the user noticing if they are not on a page the user
is working on when the open and save the document.

[Bug 1244889] [NEW] oclock ignores colors for hands when transparent

2013-10-26 Thread Tamotsu TAKAHASHI
Public bug reported:

[reproduced on Precise]
[any versions of x11-apps have this bug]

oclock -fg yellow -hour white -minute red -jewel blue -transparent
makes hour-hand, minute-hand and jewel _red_ (the color only for minute-hand)
although
oclock -fg yellow -hour white -minute red -jewel blue
(without -transparent) works fine.

i.e.
[expected] oclock -transparent -hour red paints its hour-hand red.
[actual result] The hour-hand is not red.

[cause] The code simplifies the routine too much when transparent, I guess.
(though I'm not a programmer.)
If oclock is transparent, it apparently uses shapeGC to specify its
non-transparent shape.
I guess it should also paint hourGC and minuteGC _over_ the shape.

[patch] (Maybe the last chunk is unnecessary. It seems that oclock works
fine with or without it.)

[Bug 1244486] Re: package cacti 0.8.8b+dfsg-3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2013-10-26 Thread Paul Gevers
This text appears in the DpkgTerminalLog.txt:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password:
NO).
unable to connect to mysql server.
error encountered creating user:

Was the question never asked, or did you not provide it? In the former
case, it is a dbconfig-common bug. In the latter case, it is a user
error.

In the former case, could you please explain which package manager you
are using?

A solution MIGHT be to PURGE cacti and try again. The logic in dbconfig-
common sometimes mistakenly thinks it should not ask a question while it
should.

[Bug 1244899] [NEW] the format, it does nothing!

2013-10-26 Thread Nick Moffitt
Public bug reported:

I recently bought a new USB thumb drive, and popped it in to my computer
to LUKS it up. I clicked the little eject sigil next to its name in
nautilus, and then right-clicked on its sidebar entry and chose
format. I get asked all the relevant information, and I click format.
Then I confirm.

  The rest is silence.

I'm not sure why nothing happens, exactly, but I can't find any new
icons on my unity dock thingy, can't find any mkfs processes running,
and in fact basically the request to format seems to have actually been
completely ignored.

Same thing happens when I choose pure ext4 without the LUKS crypto.

2013-10-26 Thread Aditya
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 944736 ***

Had same problem. The cause was that ~/.ICEauthority was owned by root:root.
Fixed it by doing
$ sudo chown user:user /home/user/.ICEauthority

[Bug 1244900] [NEW] [trusty] The permissions of .gvfs could not be determined

2013-10-26 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Fresh Trusty i386 installation made from the trusty iso image; so it
follows the ubuntu-desktop choices.

Inside /home/user/, .gvfs is unreadable.
I suppose that's related to gvfs-fuse : note that its a single destop system
(not linked to a network here).

oem@dev32:~$ ls -l ~/.gvfs
ls: cannot access /home/oem/.gvfs: Permission denied
oem@dev32:~$ sudo ls -l ~/.gvfs
[sudo] password for oem:
total 0
oem@dev32:~$

So maybe gvfs-fuse should not be installed by default when a network is
not detected first ?

2013-10-26 Thread Răzvan-Cosmin Rădulescu

soon as it is paired with some device (I tried with a mouse) then

[Bug 1244903] [NEW] upgrade from 12.04 to 13.04 or 13.10

2013-10-26 Thread Bert Vermeulen
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 12.04 to 13.04 the system slowed down to snail pace. Press
the mouse button on an icon and it would take up to 20 second to respond.
System 32 bit with zeus 5500 graphics card and having two monitors. When a new
app opened up or closes it does not do it smoothly but in jerks.
I replaced 13.04 with 13.10 and the same problem. Replaced with 12.04 and it
work fine. On the same system I am also running mint 15xfec an that works fine.
Taking the graphics card out and using the on board video it goes somewhat
faster but still not as when running 12.04.

[Bug 1244904] [NEW] video is not working

2013-10-26 Thread Alix Deleporte--Dumont
Public bug reported:

After upgrading the system to Ubuntu 13.10, the pcsx program shows
serious video problems : a few frames are correctly displayed but most
of them are black or blue, this does not affect the sound or the
controls, at least for the latest version. (1.9.92-4)

All packages are up to date (xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu6) ; this might be a YUV
problem.

I will be providing all the necessary informations when instructed to.

[Bug 1244906] [NEW] clusterssh does not open cluster default by default

2013-10-26 Thread Rüdiger Kupper

[Bug 1242262] Re: Kubuntu: Firefox running but not visible

2013-10-26 Thread Li The G No Lie
Hey Maik,

Thanks for the hint! It did help and firefox is now visible. I didn't
have the problem in 13.04. It seems new to 13.10, but I'm not sure if it
happens because of old settings coming from KDE in 13.04 or always an
issue in 13.10.

If somebody wants to point me to where the settings are saved, I could
upload for better debugging.

Cheers!

[Bug 1244866] Re: On 3.11-12 and 3.11-11 Wi-Fi not connect

2013-10-26 Thread girto
Related kernel bug report:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61621

The patch that seems to have broken the driver:
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2x00pci.c?id=9483f40d8d01918b399b4e24d0cdb0afffeb

Patch to revert it:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-wirelessm=137992749815360w=2

A temporary workaround would be to use the kernel boot option pci=nomsi
(disables MSI for the
entire system). It reduces the errors and allows the wireless connection to be
established.
