da kommt einem doch gleich der ausspruch von billy wilder in den sinn: preise sind wie hämorrhoiden. früher oder später bekommt sie jedes arschloch. (anwesende urgroßväter natürlich ausgenommen) Karl-Heinz Grasser ist Träger des groÃen goldenen Ehrenzeichen am Bande für Verdienste um die Republik Ãsterreich. Er bekam diese Auszeichnung des Bundes im Jahre 2003 verliehen. Allerdings erhalten Minister üblicherweise dieses Ehrenzeichen, weil man braucht Dekor am Opernball und bei Staatsanlässen. Im Jahre 2001 wurde im Bundesgesetz über die Verleihung von Bundes-Ehrenzeichen die Möglichkeit geschaffen, Ehrenzeichen auch wieder abzuerkennen, falls später Tatsachen bekannt würden, die einer Verleihung entgegengestanden wären, oder falls der oder die Beliehene nachträglich ein Verhalten setzen würde, das einer Verleihung entgegengestanden wäre (Lex Gross). Listigerweise gilt es aber nur für Wissenschafter und Künstler, nicht für Parlamentarier und Regierungsmitglieder (oder hab ich was übersehen?). Offensichtlich wird von der Unfehlbarkeit derselben ausgegangen. Ich denke, es wäre Zeit darüber nachzudenken, dem einzigen Finanzminister weltweit, der es geschafft hat im Global Corruption Report von Transparency International namentlich aufzuscheinen, die Verdienste um die Republik abzusprechen. Als Ersatz empfehle ich die Zuerkennung eines Ehrenzeichens für Freiwilligenorganisationen, denn dass er sich nicht verdient gemacht hätte, ist ihm wohl kaum abzusprechen. Mein längst verstorbener UrgroÃvater war Träger einer Bundesauszeichnung, weil er als einziger Wähler der Stadt in der Volksabstimmung vom 10.April 1938 gegen den Anschluss Ãsterreichs ans deutsche Reich gestimmt hat. Er entging (trotz beglaubigter Ahnentafel) nur knapp der Deportation. hi guys, is there an estimate when centos 5.5 will be released? hat das jemand aufgenommen (am besten digital) ? Gestern Nacht hab ich mir drei Stunden David Schalko reingezogen: In Form des Soap-Entwurfs Aufschneider, der letztens auch in zwei Häppchen zu 90 Minuten im ORF gezeigt wurde. Es schmerzt sehr, dass man gewissermaÃen nur lead-in und lead-out der Serie zu Gesicht bekommt, denn der plot hätte meiner Meinung nach das Zeug gehabt, zu einer Antwort des ORF auf klassische deutsche Nachmittags- und Vorabend-Soap wie Stefanie et.al. zu werden. Es wird wohl nicht der öffentlich-rechtliche Auftrag gewesen sein, der die Produktion einer platten Serie verhindert hat. Wahrscheinlich scheut man seit der Pleite mitten im Achten etwas zu viel. Eine Krankenhaus-Soap, erzählt aus Sicht der Pathologie im Keller, sowas ist doch für Wien eine aufgelegte Sache. Wobei der Primar der Pathologie mit Josef Hader absolut ideal besetzt ist. Und in Oliver Baier einen überraschend grauslichen Gegenspieler aus der Chirurgie bekommen hat. Zwischen beiden eine (Ex-)Frau, dazu noch Pathologie-Assistenten und -Doktorinnen sowie die überzeugende Tanja Raunig als Tochter Feli und fertig ist die Wiener Wuchtelschleuder, wobei der Film nie in Comedy abgleitet, sondern erstaunlich tragisch-komisch bleibt. Also den technischen Defekt zeigt ihr mir, der in 34 Uhren gleichzeitig eine Mechanik so ausfallen lässt, dass die Uhren alle auf 12 Uhr zeigen. Vertuscht man da einen Fehler beim Umbau? yesterday I tried to track it down, mostly in serial.c (with some custom
printf()s) with the following results:
- the F gets sent.
- the low level receive function returns 41, which is (estimated) the
length of the response record from the SCD with CR+LF.
- but the receive buffer seems to be empty. maybe some stray 0 byte in
the start of the buffer ?
Since we're getting *something*, the connection seems to be fine.
it works without problems in minicom and with a simple perl script (see
attachment), so it shouldn't be a wiring problem (while testing I made
sure that no other app was accessing the port and the driver has r/w
access to ttyS0).
I'm now writing this from memory, therefore sorry for the lack of
detail; I'll check the latest version from svn in the late evening when
I'm back home again and let you know my findings.

OK, that should be fixed now. We also skip over NULL bytes in the reply in the latest version from the trunk. yes, looks fine now ! keeps running and running ... now is the time for me to make this into an rpm for centos5 and finally RTFM (guess not everyone starts with the driver first) :-) For this I keep a USB to serial converter handy. My laptop doesn't have a serial port either. Models supported by the kernel are not too hard to find nowadays. NB Or maybe the drive is failing, but that is badly confusing the NB controller, with the same result. NB Is it always hde that is reporting errors? for now - yes; but a few months ago for a short period of time hdg and hdh also have been reported with errors, but this went away quickly and never occured again. NB With PATA, it is fairly easy to make sure you have removed the correct NB drive, and names don't change. hde is the 'master' on the 3rd NB channel. Presumably the first channel of your controller card. I know; what I meant was: I'd like to make sure that I remove the one drive that md thinks is faulty - I want to avoid removing a healthy drive, leaving md with one broken drive and two healthy ones which isn't good for a raid5. but in this case, hde rather certainly is the troublemaker. NB No, a faulty drive in a raid5 should not crash the whole server. raid5 - which disk failed ?

I'm using a raid 5 with 4*400 GB PATA disks on a rather old VIA
mainboard, running centos 5.0. a few days ago the server started to
reboot or freeze occasionally, after reboot md always starts a resync
of the raid:

now there are two things that puzzle me:
1) when md starts a resync of the array, shouldn't one drive be marked
as down [_UUU] in mdstat instead of reporting it as [] ? or, the
other way round: is hde really the faulty drive ? how can I make sure
I'm removing and replacing the proper drive ?
2) can a faulty drive in a raid5 really crash the whole server ? maybe
it's because of the bug in the onboard promise controller that adds to
this problem (see attachment for dmesg output).

I went back to two single (non-raid) 400 GB disks - same problem. finally, I figured out that the non-xen kernel works without problems. I'm filling the raid5 since several hours now and the system is still stable. I haven't tried to re-create the raid5 using the non-xen kernel, it was created using the xen kernel. maybe xen could be the problem ? Hi, we are running mysql 3.23.36 on a redhat 7.1 (intel) server; mysql is installed as RPM. for some strange reason, the following error appeared in /var/log/msqld.log over the weekend: 021027 4:02:00 /usr/libexec/mysqld: Binlog closed, cannot RESET MASTER Status information: Current locks: key_cache status: blocks used: 133 not flushed: 0 w_requests: 0 writes: 0 r_requests: 0 reads: 0 [...] according to the time the error occured, I suspect that there might be a connection to the logrotate service (which runs approx. at this time). cruft missing files

[analog-help] log format detection fails ?
Hi, I experienced a strange problem with analog 5.03 (Unix): of all web sites running on our server (apache 1.3.x), only on has HostNameLookups On enabled, therefore writing the host name instead of the IP address of the client (if resolvable) as first field to the logfile. - when the first lines of the logfile start with hostnames, analog reports: /opt/analog/analog: Warning F: Can't auto-detect format of logfile /web1/log/tle.log: ignoring it - when the first lines of the logfile start with IP addresses, analog doesn't complain, it works even if the remaining 90% of lines start with hostnames instead of IP addresses. in apache, the logformat is globally set to combined. the analog configuration is divided into two parts: 1) analog.cfg file has the following lines at the very beginning: LOGFORMAT combined LOGFILE access.log IMAGEDIR /images/ DNSLOCKFILE /tmp/dnscache.lock DNSFILE /tmp/dnscache DNS WRITE [...] 2) a temporary file is generated per site and specified on the command line: /opt/analog/analog +g/tmp/anasite.cfg this is how it looks like for the site in question: LOGFILE /web/log/tle.log LOGFILE /web/log/tle.log.*.gz HOSTNAME www.tle.com BASEURL http://www.tle.com OUTFILE /stat/doc/analog/tle.html CHARTDIR /analog/tle. LOCALCHARTDIR /stat/doc/analog/tle. I've got 2 questions/assumptions: 1) is the included config file processed before the main config file so that logformat combined gets read after the LOGFILE ... statements and therefore analog tries to auto-detect the format and fails ? Hi, is there a possibility to specify a different email address for the sender of amanda mails ? I.e. mails generated by amanda should have the From: address [EMAIL PROTECTED] and not [EMAIL PROTECTED]. tnx in advance.
re-index old tapes ?
Hi, When installing amanda, I set up a tape cycle of about 20 DAT2 tapes named TAPE01 to TAPE20. some months ago, I upgraded the streamer to DAT3, put the old DAT2 tapes away and labelled 20 new DAT3 tapes with the names TAPE01 to TAPE20. from the point of amanda's view, it was a seamless migration to the new dat drive/tapes. the problem is: I urgently need to restore files from the old DAT2 tapes which are, of course, no longer in the current amanda index. Is there a possibility to re-index such tapes, even if they have the same label as a current one ? is it wise to re-label the old tape to a different name or will re-labelling erase them ? tnx in advance.
selfcheck request timed out.

dumps larger than tape
Hi, I'm using amanda now for quite a long time to backup 8 unix hosts on a 4 Gig DAT streamer (uncompressed). Over the course of time, data volume grew larger and now amanda permanently refuses to backup volume sdb1 on host sheena: sheena sdb1 lev 0 FAILED [dumps too big, but cannot incremental dump new disk] I submitted a "amadmin config force sheena sdb1" some days ago, but of no use. meanwhile, the last full backup of this volume has been overwritten in the tape rotation. [rfu@sheena rfu]$ df -k Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on /dev/sdb14307040 3719800 364340 91% /web1 sure this volume is quite close to 4 gigs, but compressed with gzip it has something about 2 gigs which should fit on a tape easily. is there any chance to get amanda to make a level 0 backup of this volume until our new 12 gig streamer gets delivered and installed ? would make me sleep better at night. thanks in advance.
