According to information provided TV 2 Nettavisen by German intelligence, they are convinced that the CIA information is wrong, and they allegedly fear that American authorities planted the information. German police have started an investigation after the terror alarm at the hospital in Hamburg December 30. So far, no evidence has been located that indicates that the terror alarm was genuine. Also German police who were tipped off by the CIA, doubt that the terror alarm was real. Might be fake «We have not found any proof that the terror alarm was genuine, but we haven 't found any evidence that states it was not,» said Vahldiecker, officer at Landesamt fûr Varfassungsschutz in Hamburg to TV 2 Nettavisen. «It is of course possible that it was fake, but we do not know that for certain yet.» Vahldiecker confirms that they received information regarding the planned terror attack from American sources, but he said that he did not believe they provided fake information on purpose, if this might be the case. «It is possible that they gave us the wrong information, but it is not likely that they did it on purpose,» Vahldiecker said. However, that notion is not supported by German intelligence. According to our sources, they are surprised both by the way the case has been handled and by the large leaks to the press. Lots of mistakes Only a couple of hours after CIA had given the tip to German police, the case was reported on Der Speigel Online. Ansar al-Islam was named as the most likely organization behind the terror attempt. In addition, sources at German intelligence points out that there are several factual mistakes in the terror tip given to Verfassungsschutz in Hamburg. According to information given by Norwegian intelligence, Norwegian authorities were also informed of the terror alarm in Hamburg due to Mullah Krakars former position as leader of Ansar al-Islam, in addition to Mullah Krekars activity on the Internet. Økokrim informed Erling Grimstad, assistant director at Økokrim, the central unit for investigations of economic and environmental crime, stated to the Norwegian daily Aftenposten that he did not want to confirm or disprove that Norwegian authorities were contacted in connection with the terror alarm. Grimstad confirms that Økokrim is working with several foreign police authorities, but he does not wish to name what nations. According to information provided TV 2 Nettavisen, the information regarding the terror alarm in Hamburg was one of the main reasons why Mullah Krekar was arrested Friday January 3. The police allegedly feared that Mullah Krekar gave orders of suicide missions over the Internet. Not surprised «I'm not surprised by this information,» said Brynjar Meling. Mullah Krekar' s lawyer, to TV 2 Nettavisen. «I have all along claimed that the terror alarm in Hamburg was the trigger for Økokrim's arrest of Krekar . Edwin P. Wilson, 75, was convicted in 1983 of shipping 20 tons of C-4 plastic explosives to Libya - something he said he did to ingratiate himself with the Libyan government at the CIA's request. In a scathing opinion released Tuesday, U.S. Judge Lynn N. Hughes said the federal government failed to correct information about Wilson's service to the CIA that it admitted internally was false. Confronted with its own internal memoranda, the government now says that, well, it might have misstated the truth, but that it was Wilson's fault, it did not really matter, and it did not know what it was doing, the judge wrote in a 24-page ruling. It was not immediately clear whether the judge's decision would free Wilson from prison - he received prison time for three separate convictions, including one for attempted murder. At his 1983 trial in Texas, prosecutors introduced a sworn statement from a top-ranking official that Wilson didn't do anything for the CIA after his retirement in 1971. It was just a flat-out lie. He did a lot, defense attorney David Adler said Tuesday. Adler said the Reagan-era officials who pushed the case had been embarrassed by revelations they were trading arms for information and made Wilson a scapegoat. For over 20 years he's been claiming he was not some kind of rogue CIA officer and he did not get a fair trial and, of course, it turns out he was right, Adler said. Days after his conviction, but before his sentencing, the CIA forwarded a memo to the U.S. attorney's office saying at least five projects Wilson had worked on for the CIA after 1971 had surfaced - including a planned trip to Iran with the CIA's deputy director. Hughes said officials failed to inform Wilson's attorneys of the memo and that in his appeal, the government failed to acknowledge that the affidavit was false and suppressed other evidence that might have helped him. The memo and documents about later discussions were obtained by Wilson's defense under the Freedom of Information Act and through court discovery for his 1999 appeal. Prosecutors have the option of appealing the judge's ruling or retrying Wilson. Adler said he didn't expect prosecutors to appeal, but U.S. Attorney Michael Shelby of the Southern District of Texas said his office had not made a decision. A federal court in Virginia convicted him of exporting firearms to Libya without permission and sentenced him to 10 years. He was convicted in Texas in 1983, receiving a 17-year sentence for similar crimes, and a New York court sentenced him to 25 years, to run consecutively with the Texas and Virginia sentences, for attempted murder, criminal solicitation, obstruction of justice, tampering with witnesses and retaliating against witnesses. Here he's discussing an attorney who was former chief counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations--Stephen Cass Weiland, also former aide to du Pont familyin-law Senator WilliamRoth. Weilandhad left D.C. to work for the firm of Jackson Walker in Dallas. Brewton discovered Weiland's name in Ollie North's notebooks concerning fund-raising for the Contras. He was involved in some type of covert operations in Belize along with Sergio Brull of Miami and veterans of Bay of Pigs. This is where we pick up: page 111: On July 29, 1986, North had a meeting with retired Air Force Major General Richard Secord, who was running the contra resupply effort as well as handling arms shipments to Iran. They discussed Ron Martin and Sergio Brull, along with Miami gun dealer David Duncan and the use of an East German ship that Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega was holding. Bull was also named by Secord in an interview he had with the FBI in July 1986. Secord said Brull was an associate of Jack Terrell, who had been involved in efforts to resupply the Contras [according to Congressional Report on Iran-Contra Affair]. In 1989, Brull was sued by a bank in Haiti for allegedly absconding with the proceeds of a $1.4 million letter of credit that was to buy 5,000 tons of Brazilian sugar for Haiti. The bank couldn't locate Brull to serve him with the lawsuit and alleged that he had fled the country. The bank was able to track the $1.4 million that Brull took to a bank in Madrid, Spain [Case No. 89-21843 filed in the 11th Circuit Court of Dade County, Florida]. Another member of this circle who was in Belize around this time was Carl Jenkins, an old CIA agent whose previous claim to fame was his role as Rafael "Chi Chi" Quintero's case officer during the Bay of Pigs fiasco [citing book by Peter Maas, Manhunt] (Quintero, an infamous CIA operative who worked with Thomas Clines and Edwin Wilson, among others, was brought in by Secord and Clines to help with the Contra resupply effort) [citing J. Kwitny's The Crimes of Patriots]. Jenkins is mentioned in a number of places in North's notebooks, including one memorable list by North that reads "Gene Wheaton, Carl Jenkins, [John] Hull, [Rob] Owen, [Oliver] North." This list was compiled by North on April 18, 1986, apparently during a telephone conversation with Alan Fiers, director of the CIA's Central American Task Force, who would later plead guilty to misleading Congress on the Contra affair. The biggest lie, of course, was the idea that Iraq had so-called weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons) that could kill millions of Americans. Now that it's evident that there were no such weapons, the war hawks claim that George Bush never really said the Iraqi threat was imminent. In fact, he supposedly said precisely the opposite that we must stop Saddam Hussein before he can pose a threat to the United States. In fact, on October 7, 2002, George Bush said to a cheering crowd in Cincinnati: Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud. [1] See! He didn't say Hussein was an imminent threat only that we must stop him before he becomes a threat. Unfortunately, for the war hawks, that isn't what Bush meant as is evident when that statement is placed in its original context: Knowing these realities, America must not ignore the threat gathering against us. Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud. As President Kennedy said in October of 1962, Neither the United States of America, nor the world community of nations can tolerate deliberate deception and offensive threats on the part of any nation, large or small. We no longer live in a world, he said, where only the actual firing of weapons represents a sufficient challenge to a nation's security to constitute maximum peril. [1] Bush said that we can't wait for the actual firing of weapons before responding. He didn't say we have to respond before the weapons are developed. A self-avowed Progressive Jewish woman I was in graduate school with in the late 70s from Manhattan told me there were officially four sects of Jews and she told me what they were known as. I realize from your email that you see there are the 1) Secular Jews (aka the Regular ones?), 2) Orthodox Jews (Hasidics?), 3) Conservative Jews (aka Fundamentalists? and often considered politically as Zionists), and last, 4) ?? I suppose the Progressive Jews (known as Progressives). I also realize that, according to R. Falk, a Middle Eastern scholar, Jews do not necessarily get along amongst themselves -- there are great divisions amongst the sects and that they do intermarry among the sects, as well as the Progressives often attempt to marry Protestants whenever possible, the Seculars do some things a bit different often. Humans are all complex and made of different blood, DNA, certainly even within all races...but thanks for clarifying these frequently misunderstood terms some. E.
