Comments about doubled-band-drive (DDB) wheels raise my interest.
Most DDB spinners adjust one of the loops of the drive band so that
there is minimal slip (ideally, no slip) on the drive wheel and on the
large flyer whorl. The force to draw the yarn onto the bobbin is then
adjusted by
Ok I admit I overstated the stopping thing with the scotch tension. I spun
a bobbin of yarn at a meeting on my lendrum upright and the flyer goes
around about 4 times if I stop treadling. Not quite stropping dead, but
nothing to write home about. there may be ways to improve the resistance,
My favorite double drive wheel is the CPW (Bordua) where I adjust the
tension by whacking the maidens while spinning and don't lose any time or
momentum.
That said, I have quite a collection of wheels and the real difference that
I find in the various tensioning methods is actually in the yarn.
Now I happen to love them and own 2, one for me, one for students!
If they are wobbling side to side, then it's likely some screws need to be
tightened somewhere.
If sitting on a heavy carpet or thick padding, it could also rock as the legs
push into the carpet fibers.

I have heard great things about Dudiks and might be interested in buying one
(in the next 15 months before I retire), but couldn't find a website.
Anyone got any info on how to get more info (or how to contact Magnus)? TIA~

Hi Robin,
I don't know if Mangus is even making them any more. He's got to be getting up
in years.
The last I heard they were in Salem, Or. You might try super pages. His wife's
name is Heidi. Gail

Gail, I tried to reply to you offlist but my email was rejected. I believe you
are writing about a Magnus Drudik wheel from Salem, OR. His wife, Heidi, is in
our local spinning group here.
Happy spinning!

So can you then tell us whether Magnus is still making wheels?
Did I not hear that he was training an apprentice?
