None of those seem particularly relevant ('cept /maybe/ cairo), but I
figured I'd give you the whole list so you can go searching if xcb-util

Both cairo and vmware are installed by portage, and I'm not aware of
any configuration I have done aside from the virtual machine images.
I mention this in comment 10 and 14 on bug #148682 [1]. It seems to be a non
issue, but if you have ~media
that is not
longer there. But why the compile error? pygtk has no directfb USE
flag, and I can't figure out why it would want to grep
/usr/lib/libdirectfb.la.

Because it links against cairo which is still linked against
libdirectfb.la. revdep-rebuild makes no attempt (or fails ;) to

You could try switching to another GL (via eselect) or rebuilding

No change except the network environment (nyu.edu versus tiny home
network).
Now (subsequent to the successful chromium) I did a revdep-rebuild.
It asked to rebuild cairo. Which I let it do. I haven't done a
revdep-rebuild for many month (over a year?) and must confess

A is a #define from fltk.
Cf http://www.fltk.org/doc-1.1/enumerations.html
So with which USE flags have you compiled fltk?
If you have eix installed, eix fltk will show them.
You probably want the xft and/or cairo flags enabled.
If you have xft, fltk will use fontconfig and client-sid

check that if it solves the problem
Ok, I rebuilt app-text/poppler-bindings with USE=gtk cairo, and I removed
app-text/poppler-bindings from world.
Now I get this

Because it links against cairo which is still linked against libdirectfb.la.
revdep-rebuild makes no attempt (or fails ;) to figure out in which order the
packages should remerged. Cairo, pango and gtk+ are probably on the list from
revdep-rebuild and should
