Hi Paul,
it turned out there is a bug in the linux kernel up to and including
2.6.36 concerning
drivers/gpu/drm/radeon
when it comes to all graphics chips like RV350.
Does anybody know about a patch for gentoo-sources-2.6.36 ?
Many thanks for a hint,
Helmut.

Hi all,
I have an old RV350 9600 ATI graphic card and the open source radeon
driver works fine with 2.6.36 kernel.
Cheers,

That depends on the application. e.g. glxgears runs fine while a
PyOpenGL application crashes the whole machine.

Hi,
parallel-fetch is default and no need to list it in make.conf any more.
I notices when I had to add -parallel-fetch to one of my boxes.

It should also come after 2.2, but I appear to have missed that
release.
Why? 2.2 == 2.2.0
Not in portage's eyes.
So 2.2.0_alpha1 would make a logical progression.

My principle for using vmware on Gentoo is; use the latest vmware, do not
use the latest kernel.
I'm using Workstation 7.1.2, which works well with 2.6.34, also works with
2.6.35 (but wants to rebuild one kernel module every time it runs, which I
havent tried to fix).

Have you tried 2.6.34? FWIW i use gentoo-sources.
I have no useful ideas at this point - beyond my level. Have you tried
running it with strace to establish what its doing just before it dies? Does
ldd show any missing libs? malloc = Memory ALLOCation
