Hi,
got a strange problem with audacity:
I did:
Load a *.wav file into audacity (it contains sound as visible in audacity

This is printed on the console:

I have similar output especially with packages that are slotted
I got 5.4.66 sources installed and then did:

One of the messages stated config_speakup and config_speakup-synth_soft

Hi,
I have problems to get sound from ESpeak...
According to this:
http://music.columbia.edu/pipermail/portaudio/2011-February/011726.html
and this:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347041
I unmasked ESpeak and installed portaudio and ESpeak.
My system uses jackin relatime mode

Recompile all the packages with jack support. emerge --update --newuse world
should do it i guess.
Emerge qjackctl.
Then emerge rosegarden with -arts and +jack..
Then simply start qjackctl and start jack server before starting rosegarden.
This is assuming that you have timidity
Hi,
I have just given up on a strange thing with alsa. basically I can
plug something into the proper port and hear sound coming out of the
laptop speakers, be it a mic or a synth. strange enough, I cannot

I have no clue, what's happening here, since the behaviour

You don't *need* portaudio or Pulse, but then you'll only be able to create WAV
files, and no

OK, I'll give this a spin. One questions, where to move/name the traditional

espeak is not a pulse audio application but uses portaudio - something
quite different.
I dont have pulseaudio installed and seeing all the bad things people
say about it on other distributions I am leary about installing it on an
otherwise working system without good cause.
Note
I am not interisted in Pulseaudio.
I am using freeswitch, and Portaudio doesn't support PulseAudio,
therefor I need to make it with bluez and to make a alsadevice for
in/output.
This is the problem.
What you advised, doesn't work for me. the hell I know why. I added the
