VCR means video cassette recorder. Perhaps the writer had seen some historic garments described on a video? I thought that women began to wear drawers in the Regency period (in its broadest sense), when bulky petticoats ceased to be worn for 20 years or so. Am I wrong? Kate Bunting Librarian
