select a resolution not in that list by command line that will be
the only option in the menu. Leave it as is, remove it for now? A
list with hardcoded useful resolution won't work given the number
of different screen formats.

I'm on vacation right now, so just limited internt atm, no compiler or anything

for coding would be using fonts already available
on the system. Can that be done in a portable way? Also we'd never
know for sure which font is available so the game would not look
the same on on platforms.
