Not really. That's the typical use, but you can run them disconnected as well,
to take advantage of the mandatory ACL support.

I can't point you to a specific manual right at the moment, but 3590 support
has been in both z/VM and Linux for quite some time now. You shouldn't have
any problems.

It's not a matter of SLES9 supporting mainframe tape drives, it does. But
rather if the application software will support them (mostly not).
You can TAR to a mainframe tape drive.

It'll probably be ficon-attached. At the moment, the 3590s are just

You will need to reboot, of course.
Nothing else should be necessary if the physical network is unchanged.

I found a module from LaffyComputers.com a couple of years ago. It is
freeware and is call rpl. you pass it the parameter you want it to find
and then there are options to autochange everything or selectively change,
it also has an option to recursively parameter to search sub-directories.

kernel modules should be in /lib/modules/$(uname -r)
I would run the make install again and read carefully to see where
stuff is being put. If there are insufficient messages,
I ran the strace and make install but the /tmp/trace file has no
occurrence of zfcp_hbaapi.No such module must exist in
lib-zfcp-hbaapi-1.4.
The SC33-8291 doc discusses lib-zfcp-hbaapi-1.3.
Do you use this tool? Have you been able to successfully run modprobe
zfcp_hbaapi?
Betsie
Umm, no, you don't need to reboot. service network restart should be enough.
