Okay I'll have to look into profiling. Any tips? Extra build options, preferred profiling tool? basic is configure with --enable-profile and i think --disable-stdlib-debug too. gprof /usr/bin/lyx gmon.out gprof.out maybe you could try it on both cases and then compare where is the difference.
