Re: Update of Ubuntu PPA for version 2.3.7?
Whoever is in charge of the Kali distro is on the ball. I got a 2.3.7 update the day after it went live. Since that’s a Debian-based system, I should think you‘d be able to install the package on Ubuntu. For example, in this current thread I know you solved the direct problem but I'm curious what you would think is the ideal behavior because perhaps there is a way to improve LyX. On 09/29/2015 10:54 AM, Mueez Aizaz wrote: Hey Guys, Hope everybody is doing well. I am using lyx for my master dissertation. I received a template from the university with different aspects divided into .tex files. Meaning there is a .tex file for introduction, a .tex file for chapters, a .tex file abstract and so on. I import the .tex file into lyx make changes but when I try to compile it I get a large number of errors. I tried using texmaker but again when I compile same errors. I looked around and found there is also a build.bat file given. So if I make changes in the .tex file, save and then run the build.bat file a final pdf document is produced which shows my changes. So basically I need to make changes to the .tex file and run the build.bat file and it all works fine. I would like to continue working with lyx as I am much more comfortable with the gui compared to texmaker. The problem is lyx creates a .lyx file and the changes are made there and not in the .tex file. Is it possible to reflect the changes in the .tex file without compiling the .lyx file? Thank you for your time. Best Regards, Mueez Aizaz. Hi Mueez, you may try to adapt to the concept of having child documents in a LyX master document. You could then make a single LyX document of every tex file (using import) and in a second step to include all the single LyX documents as child documents in a Lyx Master document. Study the manuals on this concept. Michael

Hi Hatim, you found a regression bug in LyX 2.2dev. Could you please report it in our bug tracker. Opening your file with LyX 2.1.x the chapter title is correctly RTL. In you example file you use a lot of code in the document preamble. You don't need all of it. For example \usepackage{fancyhdr} \pagestyle{fancy} will automatically be added by LyX when you use the page style fancy in the document settings. For custom header/footer lines LyX provides the module custom header/footer lines. So you could add things like \lhead{\resizebox{1in}{!}{\includegraphics{main_logo.ps}}} directly in the main text. LyX also supports hyperref copletely. So things like \usepackage{hyperref}%لتلوين الاشارات المرجعية وجعل الفهارس قابلة للنقر \hypersetup{ colorlinks=true, linkcolor=blue, citecolor=black, filecolor=black, urlcolor=black, } can be omitted in the preamble since you can set this in the document settings under PDF properties. It's not very clear what you're trying to do. 2.2 is current development branch that has NOT yet been released. Are you sure that you want to be using unstable GIT? And how exactly did you update your packages? What is muon? Regards, Liviu Thanks, Liviu, The update is offered by muon, the update manager of Kubuntu. Since it is not yet officially released, I want to keep the 2.1 and call 2.2 I would be extremely surprised if Kubuntu were officially proposing an update of LyX to the development 2.2. Moreover, versions 2.1 and 2.2 simply do not exist. There is 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, and soon 2.1.3. While 2.2 is simply a code name for development code; it could have been 2.2 A Hopeful Release is Some Futuristic Future, or similar. So which versions exactly have you updated from and to? Liviu from 2.1.1 to 2.2, see the snapshot. May be they packed it wrongly? OK, so you're not using the official packages, but the development PPA instead. https://launchpad.net/~lyx-devel/+archive/ubuntu/daily As per the PPA's description: lyx2.1 -- daily builds of the upcoming (stable) minor release lyx2.2 -- daily builds of the upcoming (development) major release If you want to use stable LyX, you need to install the package `lyx`, nothing else. If you want to use development versions (*not recommended* unless you know what you're doing), then you should install either lyx2.1 or lyx2.2. In either case, all these installations are independent so you can have them all installed at the same time on your system (but beware not to edit a document in one version, and then re-edit in another). Regards, Liviu Wolfgang by e.g. lyx2. I probably have to set the paths according to the place were Kubuntu puts me the lyx and tex stuff or is this been done by setting the paths in lyx? Wolfgang I would prefer to call it up with lyx2, so that I can still call up the old texlive lyx with lyx. Additional note: I do not have spaces in folder or file names so this is not the source of the problem (some folks in earlier trheads have discussed this If this is known problem with LyX (or MikTex), even if there is no solution (or it requires an update), if someone can let me know that would be great.

Thank you for the tex exchange link here below. I had been trying to use Skim as well as the mac Previewer app but unsuccessfully as far as the automatic reloading was concerned ( a more apt search term that I was thus far missing). Turns out I was missing this bit in Skim which one would have supposed to have been enabled by default. http://skim-app.sourceforge.net/manual/SkimHelp_39.html that is an option to Automatically update files for external updates. Thank you for the tex exchange link here below. Sounds like the configuration may be hosed. Have you tried reconfiguring LyX? If that doesn't work, you might try deleting the local LyX subdirectory (probably C:\Documents and Settings\you\Application Data\lyx16, but your mileage may vary), backing up any modified layouts etc. you might have there, then reconfigure LyX. /Paul

I've to close the current view (whatever PDF viewer I am using, Adobe or Skim, for instance), to get an updated view. Please, am I missing something obvious? Thanks! The distinction between View and Update doesn't make much difference on Mac. What you need to do is set up your pdf viewer to pay attention to changes in the .pdf file. In Skim, you can do that via Skim Preferences Sync Check for file changes. BH

When I change the bookmark text to “you are updated” and select to update the whole document, the cross referenced text now shows “you are updated”. Sure, this is one of the key features of LyX/LaTeX. I'm wondering that you are not getting automatically updated cross-references. Sorry for this question but have you read the LyX Tutorial? It explains LyX's basic features like cross-references. If you already have read the Tutorial and it doesn't work, please report back and I'll help you to get it working. regards Uwe

Just put a label: InsertLabel, with whatever text you want. Then put a cross reference to the label where you want. Change the label and the cross-ref will change, too, automatically, though of course all the labels have to have different names. If you don't want the label to show in output, just put it in a note (InsertNoteLyX Note). You can put the label in a note, too, if you really don't want it to be output. rh

If I understood you right, you want to have a macro that outputs certain text on demand. I possible solution for this is in the attached LyX file. regards Uwe newfile1.lyx Description: application/lyx
