M_Boats: 7-11 Montgomery Good/Bad News

Fran, I bet you got a little jewel. Back in my other life, I owned a Montgomery 12. It was a blast to sail, and the quality and lapstrake design ;-) is what got me interested in looking for another one. That's after being out of the sailing market for 25 years and discovering that my old 12

M_Boats: maiden voyage

Yesterday my friend and I took Cherri's Jubilee out for the first time. We had trailered it to a marina to do bottom paint, change the pennant, and put in the pivot pin. I also added a red boot stripe, so now she looks really flashy. We motored out of the marina, turned into the wind, tried to

Hi Cherri, The stopper that Giles is talking about is called a track stop and the kind I use on my M15 is the round 1/2 inch diameter one. In the 2002 West Marine catalog it is shown on page 1018 and is model 108332 for $ 7.49. As Giles also mentioned they do go overboard quite frequently so

M_Boats: Shock Cord Sail Gaskets

Cherri, The boom downhaul will keep the gooseneck from popping up out of the sail slot in the mast. If the boom downhaul is not set, you cannot tension the luff of the mainsail with the halyard. After losing a number of sail stops -- overboard, in transit, spirited away by gremlins --

Rich, Last week Lake Don Pedro was about 25-30' below the high water mark. The concrete launch ramps are long and wide, however, so you can drive down the ramps and turn around at the bottom. It is a long walk to/from the parking lot, though. Because the lake is large and open, there is

Thanks, Don, (and Giles) for the info. We were actually a little worried that the mast would go because the shrouds were loose. It was still fun and a gorgeous evening to be sailing. Cherri -- From: Don Olson [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: M_Boats: maiden voyage

Joe, I guess we missed the boom downhaul. It was a rather overwhelming day and there is so much to learn about a new boat. I'm not even sure what the difference is between shock cord and a bungee but I will look it up in my new WM catalog. Thanks for the advice. Cherri -- From: Joe

Yes Giles idea is best, a pin on a lanyard, thats what I used on my 23. Dick Morris, Giles wrote: Hope that it was actually fun, despite the surprises. how do you raise the sail without the slides falling out? After pushing the slugs up into the groove you could buy a stopper from West

Cherri, Congratulations on your maiden voyage. Your adventure sounded very much like one of my first trips - improperly secured sails led to my being blown into a narrow swampy inlet from which I was unable to tack out - a stink pot came to my rescue - the ultimate embarrassment ! There isn't

All this talk about Montgomery dinghy's has motivated me to make my annual posting about our 7'-11 that is still for sale. Last year I swore that if someone didn't buy it I would turn it into a coffee table. However, it dwarfed the sofa and loveseat. Then it was going to be a Jacuzzi bathtub, but

M_Boats: Preparation checklist now on MSOG

Here I entreat everyone to send in stuff while conveniently forgetting stuff I have. I've added a preparation, launch, and recovery checklist that Lloyd Kelman, whom some of the long-time M-boaters may remember, prepared when I bought Vixen from him. He sailed quite a bit around
