collages are beautiful
i have always wanted to put a collage of posters in the bathroom outside my 
movie room where i have so top posters hanging.  i have just refurbished that 
area with new walls, tiles, etc.
is it wrong to cut posters and show just about 25% of each poster for the 
purpose of making a collage?   obviously none would be hitchock, or silent 
movies, of bogart.
but i can get 25-50 poster lots from bruce emosvieposter.
should i do it?

would have thought MoPo would still be around 25 years after that first 
listserv message was sent on February 24, 1995…be here we are   MoPo really 
started in 1994 when a small group of movie memorabilia collectors found each 
other on Usenet (you youngsters may have to Google that) and began CC’ing each 
other on e-mails discussing the hobby. It was a primitive mailing list, but it 
worked. Then in early 1995 as our distribution list grew, American University 
student Adam Ehrlich discovered his school allowed students to set-up a 
listserv discussion group—for free–and MoPo was officially launched. It’s 
interesting that once a list begins, as long as it stays active and has a 
listowner (that would be ME!) AU just lets it chug along even after a student 
graduates. Even more amazing is that AU still maintains their listserv system 
at all. But a big thank you is in order to American U for giving MoPo a home 
for all these years.   As is my annual tradition, I salute the original 11 who 
were here 25 years ago today: Mahtab Moayeri, Michael Danese, Rob Ellis, Donna 
Tschetter, Goh Kai Shen, Evan Zweifel, George Nichol, Jeff Static (using AOL 
name Static555), Cindy Nemeth-Johannes (sadly we lost Cindy in 2008, but her 
husband Jay is still a MoPo member), myself, and of course, (former) AU student 
Adam Ehrlich. I’m happy to report that in addition to Jay, Michael, Rob and 
Evan are still with us 25 years later!   It seems unreal that 25 years have 
passed since MoPo began…time does really fly if you’ll pardon the cliché. I was 
an avid collector back at the beginning, but as the years have passed (along 
with my hair line), I find myself content with my collection as it is and have 
begun thinking about what I’m going to do with all these beautiful images that 
are now living in storage boxes. But every day I do enjoy looking at my 
favorites that have been carefully framed and hang on the walls and they will 
probably be the last to go should I ever decide to liquidate. (I have a feeling 
I’ll be liquidated before those cherished gems are!)   My thanks to all 
MoPo’ers, past and present, for a wonderful 25 years. Happy Silver Anniversary

i had an auction on ebay canceled for the same thing about 6 months ago.   it 
was not a poster.  i suspect that someone complained, and ebay cancels 
perfunctorily is most cases.


my item was a NEW clothing item.  i had about 8 listed (different colors, 
sizes) at the time using the same template.   the listings with the same 
template had been used for about 2 years.  EBAY cancelled three and sent me 
warning.   i relisted, again6 months,, agowithout any 
problem


it is ebayoften no rhyme or reason for their actions.

2 months ago they cancel 2 of my posters  , 1990s king crimson and 1970s 
discipline (king crimson members) original concert posters 


Now they cancel another 1990s concert poster  with robert fripp (= king 
crimson)  and  this time i get a 7 day restriction on my ebay account 


Why would anyone waste his time checking ebay listings and  ask ebay to remove 
vintage original concert posters ?
How can this be in the interest of  whoever ? 


Worst is that i've now lost pleasure in listening to my old king crimson 
records ...

isnt it hard to sell better "stolen" items that have identifiable  markings?
 
i purchased both 1934 IMITATION OF LIFE half sheets from Heritage 15  
years, ago.  mint, rolled posters.  but they each minor india ink  stains in 
the 
borders.  those stains are like fingerprints.  they are  forever catalogued 
by Heritage.
 
my my memory tells me that a batch of very expensive posters were stolen  
from a dealer or auction house in england 20 years ago.  recovered 5 years  
later by the police.  does anyone recall?

Today marks MoPo’s 21st anniversary. The first  automated MoPo message was 
sent via American University’s listserv on  February 24, 1995. 
There were 11 members at the beginning, and as is my  annual custom, I 
recognize these MoPo pioneers:  Mahtab Moayeri,  Michael Danese, Rob Ellis, 
Donna Tschetter, Goh Kai Shen, Evan Zweifel,  George Nichol, Jeff Static (using 
his AOL name Static555), Adam Ehrlich,  Cindy Nemeth-Johannes (we lost Cindy 
in 2008, but her husband Jay is still a  member), and myself. In addition 
to Jay, Michael, Rob and Evan are still  MoPo members.  
Thanks for another year…and as long as AU keeps the  listserv’s lights on, 
MoPo will carry on and we can all grow old  together.

corporate information network. This attack  compromised a database containing 
eBay

*   We are working with law enforcement and leading security  experts 
to aggressively investigate the matter.

March and resulted in unauthorized access  to a database of eBay users that 
includes customers' name,  encrypted password, email address, physical 
address, phone number  and date of birth. 

However, the file did not contain financial  information. And, after 
conducting extensive testing and analysis  of our systems, we have no evidence 
that any customer financial or  credit card information was involved. We also 
have no indication  of a significant spike in fraudulent activity on our

I would guess that AOL have black listed you and  have put a general spam 
filter block on your server.
 
This happens when several AOL users report your  emails to AOL as spam. 
This is a common occurrence because many  novice AOL users do not realise that 
when they send an email to the Trash or  Junk folder as opposed to 
deleting an email when they don't want to keep it,  that action automatically 
sends 
a SPAM report to AOL. When a preset limit of  reports are reached at AOL, 
then a blanket block is placed by AOL on that  sender.
 
As a mail sender, you can register with AOL to be  put into a feedback loop 
and receive SCOMP reports each  time a user reports your emails as SPAM ( 
sample email below gives you  further details and links) .
That way you will  know which subscribers are the offenders and can take 
what ever action you  deem appropriate
 
I have responded to the whole list, so your AOL  users who are not aware of 
this, take a moment to read their system guidelines  and help pages in 
order that they do not repeatedly send unintended SPAM  reports regarding 
websites to which they have subscribed!

bouncing. After the number of bounces reached the  listserv limit, they were

Hopefully this was just a one time situation, but I’ll  continue to monitor

i actually like THE PARADINE CASE.  i do agree that it is not  
hitchcockian.  when critiquing the film, we expect to much because it  is 
hitchcock.  it is just a good movie.  i have the half sheet with  the head

 After three long years I am happy to say that Kerry  Haggard was
 sentenced.  The Judge threw the book at him, giving  him the maximum
 sentence possible of 78 months in Federal  Prison.  She would have
 given him more time, but then it might  have opened the door for an
 appeal.  78 months is the maximum  with no appeal opportunity.  She
 obviously didnt like Haggard and  lectured him for about 20 minutes.
 He requested a transfer to the  Atlanta Federal prison.  She refused to

 that, requiring it to be  held in New York also.  Which means, he will
 have to live in that  area.  He cant go to Georgia to do his time or

 reimbursed to the hobby.  Unfortunately,  they cant make him give
 posters back.  They can hold his feet to  the fire, but can't actually
 make him give them back.  The good  news is that Agent Mike Mullahy has
 found at least $300,000 in good  posters.  (They also confiscated many
 other fakes.)  The  Judge order that all funds raised from the sale of
 these posters go to  the victims, not the Government.  Each victim was
 listed in the  sentencing, with the amount due to them for
  reimbursement.

 It was also implied that there may be more  charges coming.  I am not
 certain of this, but it sounds like  there are more potential legal
 actions in Haggard's future.  I  can't convey how much disdain the
 judge had for  Haggard.

 There are some real positives from today.  First  of all, the judge was
 greatly influenced by the letters that everyone  sent to her.  She said
 she had never received so many letters in  a case, ever!  Thank you to
 each person who wrote a letter.   Also a thank you to Robert Ragovin
 and Glenn Damato who spoke in court  along with myself.  Ralph De Luca
 was also there lending  support.  I want to send a special thanks to
 Sean  Linkenback.  He knows why, and thats all I will say about that.
  Our hobby owes a special thanks to the FBI.  Specifically Agent  Mike
 Mullahy.  He did a fantastic job.  He talked to me day   night.  I
 remember one time he contacted me at 10:30 on a  Sunday evening.  He
 went over and above.

 Another  positive is the fact that our legal system does in fact work!
  My  only regret is that Haggard is still lying and still trying to
 hold  the posters for his own gain.  But, the game is far from over.
  Overall today was a wonderful day for our hobby.  I personally  thank

i know that some ballplayers appearing at sport shows charge for  
autographs.  OJ !!!
 
some celebrities do, likewise.
 
is that right or wrong ?
 
keep in mind, many people, including MOPOers have told that they mail  
inserts, photographs to film-stars, include a return envelope and ask for  an 
autograph, which receive gracious responses.  (obviously more  stories like 
that years ago before a celebrity died)

funny you mentioned Jay North.  one of my cable channels just starting  
showing Dennis the Menace.  
the writers were good, jay north acted very well with a constant smile,

and/or per diem and, if they're from out of town, they may  get air tickets

Not sure if Mike's Right  or Wrong question pertains to the celebrities 
selling their autographs at  shows or the buyers selling their signed 
merchandise.  Either way, it's  a legal living unless they are forged.  Nothing 
wrong with it.   

I get a kick out of  meeting the child stars like Jay North, Paul Peterson, 
Jon Provost, Mary  Badham, Erin Murphy, etc. at some of the events.  But 
sometimes can't  help wondering why they would spend an entire day or weekend  
seated behind a table selling their autographs for $10 each or posing with  
you for pictures for the same price.  
 
Sports figures sometimes  have an autograph clause in their contracts 
requiring them to appear at  exhibitions, sign autographs and generate income 
for 
the sponsors.

i cannot imagine the legends like bette davis, sinatra, liz taylor,  
hitchcock, lucille ball would ever ask..except if 100% of the money went to 
 a 
charity.
