@Wolfgang: I don't understand your suggestion: add a label key to

into such a prefixed strings.
I hope it does what you want! Let me know if you want/need any
alterations, or discover bugs.
Thanks a lot for that. I'd adjust the interface, so that it matches
the behaviour of \in:
\def\inrange
{\dodoublegroupempty\doinrange}
\def\doinrange#left#right#dummy[#label

\definehead [agendapart] [section]
[sectionresetset=none,sectionsegments=agendapart,style=\bfb,conversion=A,bodypartlabel=part]
\definehead [agendaitem] [subsection]
[sectionresetset=none,sectionsegments=agendaitem,style=\bf]
\setuplist [agendapart] [width=1.5cm,pagenumber=no,style=bold,label=yes

\dorecurse{10}
{\startMPpage

\stopMPpage}
(There is also \dostepwiserecurse if you need more control).

label(textext(decimal(n)),origin);
does what I want.

for me. I realize now that many
things with labels can be used as anchors for references, and I'm still a
bit surprised that a delimited text with a label cannot be used that way.
Where has the delimited text in your example a label?

I had not included a minimal example but I
