Looks more like a young Red-tailed Hawk to me, the tail doesn't look
proportionally long enough for an accipiter and the white spotting on the back
in common among 1st year Red-tails.

The Gray Crowned Rosy Finch was seen by a number of birders this morning and

These are almost certainly escapes from local farmers/land owners. You can buy
them quite cheap at your local Agway or farm supply store (and even on-line

White-winged Scoter is the only Scoter I'd expect on that part of the Hudson.
They are fairly regular in Spring (less so in fall) from Stillwater north
through Ft. Miller and Ft. Edward and onto Lake George as well. Much like
Red-necked Grebe, their numbers have been better this winter thanks
only to NYS.

A phone call from Bob Anderson alerted myself and Ed Becher to a N. Goshawk at
the nature center at West End ll, Jones
Further upriver in the Albany area, we are having an above-average to excellent
white-winged Gull year. In the Cohoes area, where the Mohawk and Hudson meet,
there is just enough open water due to the Cohoes Falls and a couple of power
stations and the local dump doesn't hurt either! So even

in a backyard (sitting on a feeder!) in Gansevoort, Saratoga County.
The person who made the e-bird report was not the home owners. There are

Why should we get involved at all? They are vagrants, moved out of their
normal range for whatever reason. They will either survive and return home, or
they won't. That's the way nature works. I think we should stand back and let

parking lot and follow the trail/fence line to the LEFT. After about 150 yards
or so, crossing a dry creek you'll see the construction of the new visitors
center on your left. Keep to the right of the temporary fencing
I have not seen any reports positive or negative today.

been created called - Stakeout Harris's Sparrow and I ask that people please

Before I get more hate mail from the natives... The Swainson's Hawk is being
seen in the town of New Baltimore, Greene County NOT Coxsackie, even though
that's what the Thruway interchange is named.

an open field down near the water at Mt. Loretto on Staten Island.

Looks more like a young Red-tailed Hawk to me, the tail doesn't look
proportionally long enough for an accipiter and the white spotting on the back
in common among 1st year Red-tails.
