I thought I read, a Qjet could out perform the old
tri-power, which is why they stopped building them.
Now
Wouldn't the simplest way to determine this be in finding a build sheet, and
wouldn't the 425 have to be a numbers matching engine? Seems this would be
the easiest way to prove it. Just a thought... Tim
I think what we are saying is...if Olds did run low on the new 400 motor

did
put the 425 motors in some. I thinks thats all some are saying.
They didn't run out of 400Es, and I'm sure the CEO of Olds would fire his

Nope. I have no idea as to the real reason the tri-power was offered as an
option for only 1966 and was avialable as a dealer parts package for 1967.

Tom:
I had the chance to do an interview with Jack Doc Watson at his office
in Michigan a couple of years ago. He told me that the 1968 Hurst Olds
cars all came down the Cutlass assembly line with the 455 engine, and as I
recall OW code
. Nothing else would be accepted. Someone has to order it with
documentation.

Listmembers,
This thread is very interesting! I've went through, picked out the responses
and read them first when I've opened up my e-mail. With all due respect to
everyone involved, I ask this question:
I know it was said back in the day that the 1968 and 1969 Hurst/Oldses had
their 455's
As I unclearly recall, Last year when this thread
went around one bit of evidence of an A body having a
455 motor in 68 69 was the location of a drain plug.
If it was between the motor mount holes it was A body
and if on a boss towards the end of the block it was a
big car? Or do I have this

Welll now...given the info that we have seen, isn't it possible that, for whatever reason, a few 425 powered 65-442's may have "slipped " through (just like my spreadbore, pcv'd fully boxed rear control armed 65-442 did??? Ron Forsee

There was a GM wide ban on any engine larger than 400 cubes in any
A-body and Camaro sized from 1965 to 1969, period. The ***only*** way
Kurt is 1000% correct.
There is only he said she had stories.
Nobody has ever stepped up to the plate with *proof* of one.
If anyone says there is, let them bring forth the proof. (Which never
starts with I know someone...)
From personal experience, I knew guys and one gal in 1965 - 1967
It was the right time at the right

I understand what you are saying Ron. Dealer installed options are pretty
cool when documented and ad a certain value to the car also.
I just bought my new 2006 Mustang GT Convertible with Dealer Installed 20
inch rims and Convertible Light Bar. I have the paperwork and will save it.

Isn't this fun??!! For the sake of discussion, exactly how would one
prove that his 65-442 came with a 425?

Ron,
I think I'm beginning to understand but still am a little confused.
Are you saying that the 68 69 Hurst Oldsmobiles were basically modifieds
with no warranty from Oldsmobile?
Nope, that's a totally different animal. Hurst and Olds entered into a
formal contract for Hurst to
