I have not been able to receive messages for a while from this list so
apologize in advance if this has come up recently. After upgrading to
Windows 10, I can only run Sound Forge 11 as administrator. When I do not
do that, I get a dialog asking me to register, but when I press "NEXT" it
seems to just disappear. This did not happen immediately after my upgrade,
but this started happening several weeks after my upgrade to Windows 10.

Has anybody found a way to fix this? Running as administrator works, but I
would like to get back to being able to run it normally.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Yep, convenient may be but the unit does have its limitations as we’ve
discussed here, the Wi-Fi connectivity being a very serious limitation and -
given the speed of the Wi-Fi - one wouldn’t really want to try and download a
good quality audio stream.
And again we come to that bloody awful internal speaker.
Another interesting point and its not critical just an observation, I wonder
why Human ware didn’t include the ability to be able to browse NAS storage
devices or other computers on a network for files? Just about every other
device I know of these days - that can play Internet radio stations - haas this
handy feature which and I reckon it would be an absolute boom! for users of a
VR Stream.
Perhaps I’m talking about a future VR Stream update though hHumanware take my
advice, don’t make the update too big or it will take until Christmas for the
VR Stream users to download .
Regarding my own streaM/ Its found a good home so I’m happy about that.

You’re making a huge mountain out of an absolute molehill.
Firstly you couldn’t have looked everywhere for the update tool, I wrote about
this yesterday I think it was, I found the tool along with associated
documentation exactly where the people at B said it would be, in the Archives
section of the site.
Why is it there? Because B will not be releasing any further updates to the
MM1 Speaker system, “if it aint’ broke then don’t fix it”.
I even told you how to run a simple test to see if your MM1 system had the
latest firmware update running and I repeat, if you press the “Power
Off/Standby” button on the remote control and your MM1’s go into “Standby” mode
straight away then you have the latest firmware installed.
If you press then “Standby” button and the MM1’s take some time to power down
then you need to download the updater.
My system has the latest firmware update installed - according to the test
procedure I outlined above - and I’m willing to bet that the same will apply to
your model given the update was released nearly 2 years ago - march 2015 -.
So do enjoy your speakers please! .

standby mode when the computer shut down.
I’m running my MM1’s through my Mac’s USB port and I have noticed that - by
default - they turn to standby mode when the computer itself is shut down
however one has to remember to power up the MM1’s, its a bit disconcerting to
turn on and boot your computer not to hear any speech from the Voiceover Screen

use frequently so it didn’t take me long to spot the problem .

Some important questions have been raised over the period of this discussion
which I thought worth chasing up as I couldn’t answer them when they were
raised.
Firstly firmware updates.
It appears that the updates are performed by the B Controller App which - in
the case of the MM1’s - has to be used with the Windows PC.
I’ve no idea how accessible or otherwise this App is.
It appears that a firmware update for the B MM1’s was released in March 2015
so given that we’re almost 2 years on from the release of that update it very
well may be that the latest firmware is already residing in our units - if we
bought them recently. -.
Secondly about the issue of heat? All the B Support page for the MM1 says on
this topic is that, “It is normal for the right speaker to become warm”, hardly
helpful but there we are.

Yep indeed it does.
I thought I’d left my run far too late to purchase the B MM1 computer
speakers and had started looking at other alternatives such as the Keff eggs.
A little Google searching pointed me to another well known Hi-Fi shop that had
stocked the MM1 so I didn’t think there’d be any harm in contacting them to see
if I might be able to get a pair.
I was in luck, the MM1’s are on sale for $599 Australian, usually $749 so mine
for the taking or perhaps that should be grasping as I thought I’d never get a
pair.
I’ve heard the MM1’s often enough of course and I know exactly what they sound
like.
All I can say is that - if you’re in need of a good set of desktop computer
speakers - then do what you can to grab yourself a pair of B MM1’s.

RE: sound Forge Audio Studio

2016-07-16 Thread Jamie Kelly
Yes I had this issue to when I updated to windows 10 some months back and I
resolved it by installing as "run as administrator" both with the install and
then running from desktop to register. I find even now I sometimes have to
select "run as administrator" to launch SF. It's a win 10 thing as I have the
same issue with other programs sometimes including adobe audition.

Interesting.

I didn’t have the problem you had but I’m curious nevertheless.

did you have Sound Forge Audio studio 10 installed on your computer before the
upgrade? I did and thus had the software installed when I undertook the upgrade
and I’ve not had any issues thankfully, in fact the only issues I had with the
upgrade were easily fixed, one was my fault as I didn’t have the latest version
of Window-Eyes installed when I did the upgrade to Windows 10 and the other
issue was Total Record, all the settings disappeared however that was quickly
fixed.

I’m sorry I have to sound like a record but its these times which remind me yet
again just how dam good a system backup is.
, if all else fails you can go back to where you started.

Hi!

Streaming and listening to Internet Radio is perhaps one of my favourite
hobbies.

In 2011 I was fascinated by the Logitech Squeezebox Boom, a stand-alone
device which could play both Internet Radio streams and allow the user
to stream audio to it via a Computer or similar.

In 2012 the then Logitech Squeezebox Smart Radio came along and this
added portability to the mix - whilst the Smart Radio was in range of a
Wi-Fi network I could enjoy the benefits of Internet Radio and my Music
library through the top class speaker of the device .-

In 2013 I purchased a Sangean WRF-28D radio though I didn't like it much.

Whilst the functionality was pretty good - again allowing the playback
of Internet radio, streaming music and so on - the quality of the
in-built speaker was very poor in my view, the radio had terrible DAB+
reception and FM was very bad so it was with interest that I read about
the replacement model from Sangean, the WRF-28C which I bought some
weeks ago and here are my notes concerning this model as opposed to the
older D model.

The radios look exactly the same but there are quite a few changes
inside the radio.

Firstly the FM and DAB+ have been improved.

You'll notice the vast improvement in speaker quality, it now sounds
very respectible considering the speaker is only a 3 inch driver.

Volume is considerably louder than on the previous model.

The new C model will allow the user to play Spotify using Spotify Connect.

Most important of all in my view is the incredibl battery life of the
new model compared to the old, at least twice the life of the old model,
I get 22 hours out of a set of 7500MAH batteries which is impressive.

Operations between the two models are pretty much the same and the newer
C model - as with the D - can be remotely accessed via the Undok
IOS/Android App and can be streamed to via your computer or compatible
DLAN Application.

Be warned however that availability of the newer model is restricted in
Australia at least so you may have to look carefully to find it, I
bought mine from Trevor Lees Audio in Kew Victoria and they have a web
site which you can eaisly find on Google or eBay, another place to look
is JB Hi-Fi.

I use the setup software at:

to setup running more than one drive.

I have access no problem via the IOS app.

Creating shortcuts is one way of doing things but its not an efficient way at
all, you’d be better off “Mapping” the shares as drives to find them in
Explorer - whether that be Windows or File Explorer depending on the Windows
version you’re using. -

Its a shame that you don’t setup things from the Web Interface as its totally
accessible and you can do some incredibly powerful things with your drives
there, the Desktop software is merely a window dressing and even WD themselves
recommend users of these drives get familiar with the included Interface which
is not difficult to learn, if you can navigate a web page then you can
certainly navigate the Web Interface of a WD My Cloud or similar drive.

Regarding the IOS/Android Apps? I’m not sure all the drive management features
are available through that but you certainly can remotely
manipulate/retrieve/share your files, send them to Dropbox or other services
etc.

With version 16 you need to drag and drop the files and once you have added the
files you will see the convert files button. I use Jaws and haven't tried WE or

Go back to version 11 if you want to use shortcut keys such as alt E to add

 Hi!

I recently bought one of these drives and my only comment is that I'm
really sorry I didn't buy one earlier.

The WD My Cloud has a whole variety of uses including the storage and
sharing of audio/video files around your house using DLNA and so on.

Before the WD My Cloud drive came along I was using USB drives hanging
off the Asus RTN56U rooter, whilst this method of sharing media was
affective the speed was very slow.

With the WD My Cloud connected directly to the Rooter I've fround
 speed
has increased even to the point where the WD My Cloud can be carrying
 out
several data operations at one time without any drop in performance,
 for
example a backup from the Windows PC and the Mac can be going on
 whilst
you access your favourite tracks from a Playlist with your Android
 Phone
 or whatever.

The following review outlines and describes many of the drives
 capabilities.

There are other factors of course, the Rooter itself for example.

You could try Sound Forge and with the Jaws scripts you can use the EQ, shift

If you have some vision, Adobe Audition is very good also if it's still

Hello everyone. I wonder if anybody can please advise.

I currently record using a broadcasting encoder and edit my content
using GoldWave. However, I'm having significant issues with the
presence of mouth clicks and the constant sounds of my Braille display
as I move from line to line (or as the cursor flashes).

I find that GoldWave's editing options are generally too weak to have
any impact or too aggressive to leave a high-quality recording. I
currently have Depopper; could this be used to remove the issues
described above (and also the hiss of room ambience)? If so, any
advice on particular settings would be appreciated. If not, can
anybody please make any other suggestions?

Many thanks, Danny

Pretty much what I think too.

I certainly wouldn't want to be listening through the internal speaker of
any device such as an iPhone for no longer than is necessary and - if you're
listening to iPhones as we have to do ti use them - then the Internal
speakers just keep getting better for use with Voiceover but if you're
planning to listen to Podcasts, read books and so on then it won't be long
before you find the internal speaker to be an irritation.

I have listened to Internet radio and so forth using the internal speaker of
my iPhone 6, its a pleasing listen but I much prefer something like the Bose
Slund Link Air, Mini or III to listen through if I'm going to listen to
Internet radio.

I'm typing this eMail on a Bluetooth keyboard whilst listening to feedback
from Voiceover through the internal speaker and that's perfectly fine for
me, introducing extra elements such as Bluetooth speakers whilst typing can
cause problems such as delays in response to what you're typing from
Voiceover etc though the modern Bluetooth devices with latter versions of
Bluetooth seem to be a lot better in this regard.

I'm expecting my leather case for my iPhone 6 to arrive today, will be
interesting to see how Voiceover sounds on the iPhone 6 after its been put
into its new home.

No question the DM5 is an excellent recorder but not the most easy to use
Daisy player. Anoying on power on having to going to Books then finding your

Hamit, they no about it, but the problem is that they don't do
anything about it. They give allot of people advice on how to get the
player going again, and they will help you as far as they can, I'm not
going to bad mouth the company, just stating that the problem is that
there is no solution provided to make sure that all units run stable
and also better hardware. The booksense can be quite stable, meaning
that is very usable, but if you thing how much it cost, and you
compare it with an Olympus wich is targeted a slitely different market
as far as the dm models goes, then its really unexceptable! That is
why I con't wait for the dm7. I would advice it to anyone, even if you
have an audio player already. The sound is just one of the many things
wich is just better.

Hi jhon, yes its a great unit, but first off, I think it could have better
hardware. The sound quality when connected to external speakers is ok, but
not good enough for a device with such a price tag. If this happened with
 a
mainstream product, sighted people would rave about it, so why should we
except it? Yes, it does work well, but often when the battery drains, its
not easy for everyone to get it running again, as some units just dies on
them. You have to reset each time to get it going, and the overall
 stability
is not yet what it should be. A reset is ment for every now and then, you
should hardly use it, but with booksense and alike, its better to get to
 no
the different resets and the way they work, as you might need it more
 often
 than you think.

Wel, we should of corse keep in mind that its not really a speshilized daisy
player, and therefore don't offer all the detailed features of book playing,
but it can surely help if you someone who need a good recorder (better than
plextalk) but with good playback features. The
dm7 already handles more file formats.

does given that Studio Recorder has a navigation menu which allows the

That's a very subjective comment regarding Sound Forge, I know people I work
with who would have split and sore sides for a whole week if you told them
that Sound Forge was an ideal piece of software for restoration work, they
use something call StineBerg I think its called and they run a professional
Audio/Video restoration business, according to them the Restoration plugins
in SF are well over rated as is the software itself, again its a case of
beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

So, save to a place you'll remember, then execute the file from there.
 Installation should go more smoothly.

I believe the new Stream is a good alternative for those users that find the
Plextor Pocket navigation and menus to complicated. I feel there are
benefits to owning both devices if you can afford too.

I am looking forward to the Plextor Pocket Linio being available in
Australia for the Daisy Online Delivery so that Australians can stream or
download daisy books and newspapers and magazines from Vision Australia.

I think you were to quick to judge the speaker in the first place, to
just listen or read one or two reviews from access world is not
enough. You should also investigate furder than that. Sometimes some
of those reviews don't contain enough info, like the latest review I
red on the ptn2. Maybe you should go find a demo and here it out. Its
defnitly better than the older model, not sure how it compare to
plextalk, but anything better than the older model I consider as an
improvement. I agree about your remarks about the mountbatten though.
Its just that it would be crazy to buy a voice sense if your main goal
would be to use it to listen books. Not really smart as a NoteTaker is

an
HW tech guy who sounded honest and reliable. Everyone who has heard my
Stream speaker is impressed, considering its size.

I find HW to be responsive to user suggestions, and they seem to
 incorporate them pretty quickly.

I believe Aidan's and other lister comments make a good case for the
Stream as a first-rate device for reading books and other materials. You
can pause it on the proverbial dime, fast-forward and rewind in reliable
increments, set bookmarks and so much more.

Nothing like hands-on experience, so the sound from the internal speaker
of the Victor Reader Stream isn't muffled? I wonder why the reviewer then
said it was/ Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting what you're saying as
you own a machine but I wonder if the Plextalk Pocket or the Booksense
 sounds better.

Anything could sound better than that awful internal speaker on the older
victor Reader stream model, that was something right out of the
absolutely
awful basket but then again, with NFB - No Friends Of The Blind - having
input into the design? Well one really couldn't expect all that much
 better.

Okay, since this thread has drifted so far away from the Victor Reader

 players.

Regarding the Victor Reader Stream? Well I doubt I'll be getting one as
the machine offers me nothing whatever I don't have accept for an extra
hole burnt in my pocket I don't need.

My assessment is based on 2 reviews I've read over the last few months
in
the Access World publication and the reviews presented in Access World
are very independent in nature and presentation so I feel I'm reliable
 informed.

I understand that several bugs in the new victor Reader Stream model
have
been a-dressed but this fact alone still won't convince me to buy a
Stream, what convinces me not to buy one is the statement in the review
articles that the speaker of the Stream - whilst far better than that
found on the older model - is still muffled.

As it happens I was in the right place at the right time and managed to
purchase a VoiceSense at a perfectly reasonable price, the seller no
longer required its use as he had fully migrated to an IOS setup.

It's not on the Extractor interface. It's the encoder configuration
you set up for this purpose. I don't think there are any that come
with it that are specifically for converting to mono, but it's easy
enough to define one of your own. Takes about a minute and a half.

While Goldwave can manipulate so-called Media Foundation M4A files,
what can handle, and extract video from, .MP4 files? MP4 is the new de
facto standard for distributing standard-definition TV content on
Usenet. It's almost as small as the former .AVI (DirectShow) format
(also referred to as DivX or XVid), from which Goldwave can extract
audio.

And while we're at it, what about .MKV files, the HD version of MP4's?
Anything good at extracting audio from those?

TIA for any assistance.

JFW13 and I use Easy CDDA V11 and current one around V15.

If there is something I need to look for with the JFW cursor be keen to hear
about it.

Hi Mate,

There definitely is. What file format to which file format do you want to
convert stereo to mono. In the later versions of Easy CDDA, you have to use
the Jaws cursor a bit or wineyes mouse cursor etc. But it certainly can be
done. If you want I can do it for you :).

While Goldwave can manipulate so-called Media Foundation M4A files,
what can handle, and extract video from, .MP4 files? MP4 is the new de

audio.

And while we're at it, what about .MKV files, the HD version of MP4's?
Anything good at extracting audio from those?

TIA for any assistance.

This is the same behavior with the DTBM from NLS and the Booksense, i.e.
once you adjust the playback speed, you hear mono instead of stereo.

Just curious, but wouldn't this be off topic for this list? I'd suggest
a better list, but I don't have a Victor Stream, and the generic MP3
player list I was on switched over to focusing on iPods.

Also, I'd suggest a more descriptive subject line. Depending on what I'm
using to check my messages, I don't always open them up if the subject
doesn't catch my eye. Note that I did change it myself with this message.

Once you change the speed on a stereo file it becomes mono. You change the

Hi!

I purchased a Sangean ATS909X World Band receiver quite some time ago and
I'm now only putting the set through its paces.

I could write pages and pages about this unit and I'll do that on my blog in
the future I'm sure but I do feel that this set deserves praise for its SSB
reception.

Tuning round the 8-9MHZ frequency range this morning I was able to listen to
the Flying Doctors service, the reception wasn't brilliant but I was able
to identify the organisation and Julia Creek, that's a town in Central
Australia.

Now I've never received this before and - whilst Its obviously possible to
receive the service as I proved - I always thought you'd need a bigger
aerial than I was using, I just used the built-in telescopic whip of the
radio which is around 6 feet long.

Perhaps what makes things different these days is the absence of a lot of
traffic from the SW bands.

For those interested in this radio I recommend it as it is one of the few
these days to offer both dual conversion circuitry and a variable RF-gain
control across all frequencies from 100-2KHZ.

The set also comes equipped with a very nice DSP which brings the radio
alive! when listening to medium-wave broadcasts where a strong signal is
next to a waker one, the DSP allows the weaker signal to be heard
intelligibly.

For those who have a computer then you can add extra facilities to the radio
by use of the data sockets on the bottom, what these extra facilities
actually are I'm not sure but I suspect you can hook the radio up to your
computer to use software which will decode morse, teletype and DRM
broadcasts.

Just a few first thoughts for what they're worth smile.

Hi!

The software at http://ibackuper.com/ allows the user to backup and
manipulate contents of an iPhone/iPad/Ipod device so you could for
example backup content from your iPhone and copy it over to your shiny
brand new iPod without having to run iTunes, so far so good.

The big problem is that the software referenced here would appear to be
very much inaccessible, I can see the IOS device on the screen but can't
find a way of accessing it, I've clicked around but its obvious I'm
missing something or other.

Does anyone know of an anternative software solution?

A small blindness organisation has asked me to recommend a program for
copying their quarterly audio newsletter. I know there are
many programs which will do this, but I am looking for something without
bells and whistles which will simply do the following and
is accessible and easy to use.

1. Can read a CD to temporary storage on hard disk.

2. Can produce a specified number of exact copies of the CD. That is, if 20
copies are specified, eject each CD once copied and
prompt for the next until the 20 copies have been made.

3. Has an option to specify the write speed.

4. Has an option to verify that the disk has been written correctly.

5. The program is fairly inexpensive or preferably free.

Note that it needs to do an exact copy of the disk rather than track by
track, since there aren't gaps between the tracks on the
original, so they don't want them on the copies.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't remember this kind of thing ever being discussed back in those days.
But in those days, we didn't have the internet or e-mail and we communicated
with relatively few people.

Back in those days, I used to buy bulk open reel tape and split it into five
inch reels. Enough for one album per reel; probably about 600 feet. I
borrowed albums from anyone who would lend and record one to a reel. Of
course, I would lend my albums out for the same purpose. Quite illegal, I
would think. I still have about 125 of those reels.

And then there were the folks who would purchase an album, record it to
tape (open reel or cassette) then send it back for a refund. I never did
that one. That wasn't fair to anyone.

But it's so much nicer now. I have lots of open reels and cassettes, and
vinyl that I need to put into mp3 files. It's a long job. I'm hoping I can
find someone who wants all those reels, cassettes, and vinyl of music and
old radio when I'm done with them.

I agree RIAA's measures have gotten Draconian. I also think it's wrong
that we have to use Goldwave or Sound Taxi to exercise our fair use
rights to the music we've purchased or acquired legally. However, almost
as long as cassette tapes have been around, there have been prohibitions
against copying and distributing the music we've purchased. Not sure if
this was true in the reel to reel days prior to cassettes though.

some protection scheme on it so I couldn't even move it to a different

playing it with Winamp. Total Recorder created a .wav file. So I used
GoldWave to convert the .wav to a .mp3. Now I can play it on anything I

Back in another time, when I was collecting 45's, no one told me I

 High Tom,
When you brought up Switch, When you tab over, you should have saw
something that says, output folder combo box: my documents, 1 of 5,
 alt plus I.
And as for the inner workings of the file, if you tab over to that
area, it will say, encoder options.
Right there is where the stereo joint stereo and force stereo options
 are.
Also, tabbing over just once more will get you to the bit rate settings.
 Hope this helps.
 My best regards.
  John.

Wondering why now when uploading a file to sendSpace no email with link is

couldn't see any thing relating to email.

Hi, John and listmembers.

Thanks John for the info on Dropbox and Sendspace. This is very helpful.
Sounds like another task to add to my to do list while i'm on vacation. The
only question is whether I'll get it done the week before or after NFB
national conference in Dallas. One more question. I assume I can sign up new

Dropbox accounts after I have activated my account and am assured Dropbox
meets my needs. Is this assumption correct?

 High Rob,
I once tried to sign up for Send Space, but could not find the register
link to do that on the Send Space Website.
A friend of mind, invited me to join her in her Dropbox account, that's
 how I got it!
Now to answer your question about how long you can leave files on any
server, with Send Space, you can specify a time limit, so I understand.
With Dropbox, you can leave the file or files up until you get ready to
 delete them.
When you download and install the software, it will put a folder in My
Documents on your computer that's entitled, My Dropbox.
You can upload the files from there.
But you don't really need to do anything, because the software will take
 care of that for you.
All you have to do is, email the link to the file to someone if you wish
 to send it to anyone.
Storage space, I don't know about Send Space.
But with Dropbox, you can do this 2 ways.
#1. you can invite a friend to join you on your account to increase your
 storage space.
Or #2. you can rent more storage space for a price.
Other wise, you will start out with about 1 GB of storage space.
 Hope this helps.
 My best regards.
  John.

 Good evening Tom and listmembers.

In terms of anyone's direct experience, how does Dropbox compare in
quality and efficiency to Sendspace as an internmediate web-based audio
file transfer agent? What are the capacity and time limits of each? Is
either or both free or do you need to buy subscriptions?
Thanks in advance for your info and guidance.

the link is

http://www.videoredo.com/en/index.htm

its around $84 USD.

it has menu's but it doesn't speak when placing marks, you just have to put
the marks in and then save the file.

This software won't record the files, you need a tv tuner to record the
mpeg
file then this will edit it.

 Once I have a

 Have tried

Soundforge will load the files but won't save after editing.

 Any suggestions?

Sound Forge Pro 10 navigation issues

2010-06-15 Thread Jamie Kelly
I'm using SF with Snowmen's Jaws scrips. I've somehow changed a setting as I
now can't use the arrow keys and the page up page down and left and right
arrow keys to navigate and select audio. I've look at the scanning options
settings with no success either.

Any clues to solve this would be much appreciated.

I am finding using the I and O keys to mark selections very inaccurate with
this version of SF. Older versions have been 100% ok. (Just one of my many
frustrations with SF 10) and I can't go back as no prior versions seem to
work with Win 7 64.

Thanks, Jamie

Hi Jamie,
I'm only using SF7 so can't really help. IN Snowman scripts for 7, there is
a setting alt-control-numpad5, which toggles between Standard Stop Method
and Original stop method.

I've had a problem for a long time wwhere I get unwanted feeback from Jaws
each time I hit those navigation keys. The souns goes forward or back and
plays, but I got this stuff about going in and out of menues.
Anyway my point is that Snowman helped me last weekend and told me to set it
to Standard Stop method and then re-train the transport controls with
control+alt+shift+t.
It worked for me. So I wonder if there is this training mode in the SF10
scripts.

Tonight at CUG someoen said you had a very good mobile phone with good keys.
What model is it?

Yes perhaps their is a way for instance to easyally organize track order
when burning CDs. Using jfw10/11 found those later versions frustrating even
using the audio converter navigating the list of files selected was
difficult.

That's one of those subjective things, for example if I use Easy CD DA

accessibility.

Shame because later versions than 11 have heaps of fixes in the ripping of
CD'S which make results far more accurate, numerous fixes in encoders etc.

I have to admit to not using it much these days, better solutions around
smile however if you're a registered owner of the software and you have
nothing else then its come a long way and results of ripping - as I
previously mentioned with the later versions - are incredibly accurate,
nearly as good as what you get with Exact Audio Copy for Windows and XLD
with the Mac.
