Re: ITunes Player

2013-11-21 Thread Gary Wood
Maybe that's also why I mentioned the ITunes player, because I don't know
how accessible it is. People mention Fubar, but I've never tried it, so I
don't know how accessible it is compared to Winamp. Maybe the reason are
hooked on Winamp, is because of the Winamp keystrokes that people find
accessible.

Re: ITunes Player

2013-11-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yes I can understand where you're coming from there, iTunes is not my main
player, I use VLC to play CD'S and just about everything else given that VLC
allows for better quality audio as it uses its own audio decoders and encoders,
can easily play a wider variety of formats etc.

Where itunes comes into its own is - as I think you were illuding to - its
online integration with the store, Internet Radio, I use the Match and iTunes
radio music services often and so forth.

It used to be that earlier versions of iTunes supported external plug-ins , at
one time you could play FLAC format etc with iTunes but that ability seems to
have gone which is a shame, guess the only saving grace that FLAC - being a
lossless audio format - can be converted to Lossless M$a format which iTunes
will play happily.

Re: ITunes Player

2013-11-21 Thread Evan Reese

Well, I'm not in a position to be able to use an audio system. My PC and
the headphones I use to listen to music are my audio system. So the only
bass and treble controls I have are in whatever player I use to play music.
Hence my concern with an equalizer.

I do intend to check out iTunes at some point. I've heard many good things
about it, but I'm in no hurry. Unless some new audio format comes along with
content that I really really want to listen to, or I get a new PC with an OS
that doesn't support Winamp, I think I'll stick with it for a while yet.

Itunes certainly has an equaliser though I'm not sure how many bands are
featured.

This is only me but the playing of files and formats and accessibility is
more important to me than equalisers, if worst comes to worst and you're
into that sort of thing then you can adjust bass and treble controls on
your audio system.

will

they allow one to do _all_ the things that Winamp does? Wil they, for
example, start listening to a file; then you have to stop in the middle;
will they let you go in and pick up right where you left off? Windows
Media
Player won't; at least as far as I know it won't! Can't speak for some

the others as I've not tried them! But this is my concern as I want to
be

able to start listening to a show and be able to stop it; then go to the

Re: ITunes Player

2013-11-21 Thread Evan Reese

Yes you can. I don't have iTunes myself, but I've been to sites that have
links to listen to streams that are marked iTunes and (often) Winamp, both
mentioned for the same stream. For example, you can set your Shoutcast
streams to play in iTunes. Sometimes they're mentioned in separate links,
but it's the same address. For instance, The Legend Oldies has a link to
listen in Winamp and another for iTunes, but they're the same stream. I know
because when I click on the link to play the iTunes stream, it plays in
Winamp, and the bookmark is the same address.

Re: ITunes Player

2013-11-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
I can assure you that iTunes and VLC have Graphic Equalisers in them and
I would imagine that Windows Media Player would have similar, some sound
cards and the Windows sound system itself usually offer bass and treble
controls though how accessible these may be can very much depend on the
sound card you're using.

Only me of course but when I'm listening through headphones I've
certainly never found it necessary to use an equaliser, flat is good
enough but I appreciate that everyone is different.

On 22/11/2013 3:38 AM, Evan Reese wrote:

Well, I'm not in a position to be able to use an audio system. My PC
and the headphones I use to listen to music are my audio system. So
the only bass and treble controls I have are in whatever player I use

I do intend to check out iTunes at some point. I've heard many good
things about it, but I'm in no hurry. Unless some new audio format
comes along with content that I really really want to listen to, or I
get a new PC with an OS that doesn't support Winamp, I think I'll
stick with it for a while yet.

I don't think you understand; while these players may be accessible, will
they allow one to do _all_ the things that Winamp does? Wil they, for
example, start listening to a file; then you have to stop in the middle;
will they let you go in and pick up right where you left off? Windows
Media

Player won't; at least as far as I know it won't! Can't speak for some of
the others as I've not tried them! But this is my concern as I want to be
able to start listening to a show and be able to stop it; then go to the
point where I stopped listening later on! If these other players will do
this easily, fine!

And by the way the software is called iTunes and not iTunes player.

know because when I click on the link to play the iTunes stream, it plays
in Winamp, and the bookmark is the same address.

I also forgot to mention Windows Media Player, there are a few little things
I don't like about it such as it not having support from FLAC audio for some
strange reason but the software is very accessible.

Re: ITunes Player

2013-11-20 Thread Dane Trethowan

Windows Media is pretty accessible. However it still won't allow one to do
