Based on comments by the list, I thought I would try a few more things
and show you what I had to work with. The story I told is basically
how the shot came to be - whether you agree with my thought process or
not, that is why I took the shot. The issue I had was harsher
lighting than I wanted -
I like it as shot. I also like alternates two and three.

#3, but with a grade higher contrast! If this were on film in BW, I would
have printed it on Agfa Brovira 6 :-)

I second that.
I think #3 gets your idea cross better than the original image you

I will take them down once I know you have seen them.
Some people are going to tell you to go with a straight BW conversion. But
in this case, I think you are right, it needs to be punched up.
Marnie,

Bruce,
I also think the original image stands on its own the best for
conveying your original idea.
The BW works also, but it leaves me wanting to see more tonal range.

The original and Alternative #3 (bw) are the best. You see, Bruce, to
my eye what became of the ocean on the original image you presented did
not come across like water. I thought it was a bit more soil, just
without any vegetation on it.
Actually, I think that the original shot with just a
