Yes.
What happens if the tape is later marked found?
You may have backed up some files redundantly (since at the time,
they were considered not backed up), but otherwise everything is back
to just the same as before you set the tape missing.

managed to eventually find the cause of the problem Retrospect has
exposed, but it isn't always convenient to track down these subtle
problems right away, and it certainly hurts when Retrospect is
(apparently) the only application affected by a problem.

private. That way they won't get accessed.
The issue is probably the performance hit when the backup is running,
rather than simultaneous access to the files.

I test for enclosing folder name exactly matches "RECYCLED" or
"RECYCLER", but I set it up a long time ago so don't remember which
