On system boot up the modem installs and logs on to the Net. This connection is
always on so I use the Firestarter firewall for protection.

try pinging
the dns servers i specified in resolv.conf i get the error 'No route to host'
which does look
like the 'add default HISADDR' isn't quite working... certainly that 'add route

Can anyone see some obvious things im missing?
Many thanks,

The information after the modem_run looks positive enough - the lines about
ADSL sync and ADSL line.
Hope this information helps.
Many thanks

Ducan,
one quick question the hotplug/usbspeedtouch.usermap:
speedtouch 0x0003 0x06b9 0x4061 0x 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
0x000 0x
should these numbers be the same as

if not
please help
I have installed the speed bundle, without too many errors, but still the
speedtouch driver is not being loaded when the modem is plugged in, also
when runnning pppd I still get pppoatm.so cannot be found.

please help,
I have Redhat 9.0 freshly installed (2.4.20-8) and have comiled the kernel
without problem, I have managed to do the ./config on the speedbundle-1.0
and am now trying to do the make (with the redhat make file duncan has sent

I forake the user-level drivers since they don't work. I know tried the kernel mode
drivers and still no luck.
During bootup, the modem blinks ans seems to have accepted the firmware alright. While
it is downloading the firmware it says:
bulk_msg: timeout
usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed dev 2
I tried the -e 1 command and it didn't change anything. My VPI and VCI is 0 and 35
because that is what windows alcatel client tells me. Kernel version? It is 2.4.22,
the one that comes with Slackware 9.1 and according to the drivers it should work.
Here is what i find wierd, in the alcatel
/password. To be precise, I get the following message in the
file /var/log/messages: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests. I am
absolutely sure that the introduced pair username/password is correct.
Could somebody here please help me?
Thank you a lot in advance!

I managed to fix it with a little coding, it seems to have fixed the
syslogd errors as well, should I post a patch?
What I did was in the while (1) loop I made an int called checkstate,
what this does is when the modem gets a ret with 0 i.e. 'error reading
interupt' it sets checkstate to 1,
