Turbines [biofuel]

2001-11-29 Thread Christian

Just wondering...

Does anybody know of successful experiences concerning BD in turbines? Mainly
microturbines for small scale power generation.

Any info is welcome.

Thanx

Christian

I've read some posts from people here, concerning the bubble wash
 water- well, no need to.
If you remove your meth via vacuum, all it is to it is VERY MILD
soap-water. You produce a more lethal thing when showering or taking
 a bath.
The methanol still left in, it provides food for bacteria - again
very small quantities. Diluted to a very thin mixture as well. Your
spouse/girl/doughter/sister putting hair spray on her hair once a day
is releasing the same amount of alcohol in a month as you are when
you make a 10 gal batch.

Many plants consiter methanol to be fertalizer.

Quoting an extract from US patent no. 6,015,440: ... (glycerol) is

Hi keith:
I don't know that person, and the mail with the virus was a reply to a mail
sended by me to the group and to no one else, this person could be a member
of the group with several e-mail accounts on his email reader, (if you put

i don't like virus warnings either, but this is a real one and from here, i
have last version of trend Officescan on my computer and it warned me at the

[biofuel] ADM Says Biofuels Key to Future Growth...

2001-11-29 Thread stujo

Wednesday November 28, 3:35 PM EST

By Deborah Cohen

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland Co.
(ADM) sees biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel as key profit
drivers over the next five years and beyond, as laws limiting
pollutants in the United States and elsewhere grow stricter, company
executives said on Wednesday.

Decatur-based ADM has been branching out beyond its mainstay food
additives and ingredients such as salad oils and vegetable proteins
into more specialized niche products made from primary raw materials
soybeans and corn.

Biofuels remain one of the strongest growth areas for the company,
driven by increased concern over pollutants such as MTBE (methyl
tertiary-butyl ether), a gasoline additive that has been known to
contaminate ground water.

The state of California, for example, plans to eliminate the use of
MTBEs soon, and 11 other states have similar legislation pending,
said John Rice, who heads ADM's global bioproducts and foods division.

Ethanol is the fuel of the future, and the switch from MTBE because
of ground water concerns is really the driving force behind ethanol's
growth right now, said Rice, who spoke to Wall Street stock analysts
during a Wednesday presentation at ADM's Decatur, Illinois,
headquarters.

ADM is the leading producer of ethanol, a renewable fuel it
manufacturers from corn, with roughly 50 percent of the estimated two-
billion-gallon U.S. market. The market is expected to double by the
end of 2003, Rice said.

DIESEL RESTRICTIONS SPELL MORE ETHANOL DEMAND

U.S. legislation restricting the use of sulfur in diesel fuels by
2006 will provide even greater opportunities for ethanol, boosting
demand by an estimated 486 million gallons annually, Rice said.

Those diesel fuel restrictions will also open doors for biodiesel,
another renewable fuel manufactured by ADM from soybeans. Biodiesel
contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with
petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend.

ADM is already the leading biodiesel producer in Europe, where big
markets such as Germany have been steadily growing. Now the company
is preparing to capture the dominant share of the pending U.S.
market, executives said.

We think it has significant U.S. potential, said Paul Mulhollem,
who heads the company's grain, oilseed processing and cocoa
business. Biodiesel can substitute for sulfur.

In addition to expanding ADM's prospects, the use of biodiesel fuel
could lead to lower U.S. farm subsidies, Mulhollem said, as its
production will increase sales of soybean oil ordinarily wasted as
part of the soybean meal crushing process, boosting revenues to
soybean farmers.

U.S. soyoil stockpiles rose to 2.7 billion pounds in October from 2
billion pounds a year ago, according to U.S. government statistics.

ADM shares were up 41 cents at $15.45, a rise of 2.73 percent, in
late-afternoon New York Stock Exchange Trading on Wednesday, after
touching a year high of $15.53 earlier in the day.

[biofuel] GM Diesels?

2001-11-29 Thread Leah and David Mueller

These certainly take more fuel in the V8 versions than the euro of asian
diesels, and the early ones are apparently not 'true' diesels being adapted
350 blocks. But any ways, any experience with bio diesel or SVO in them?
Sometimes low mileage ones come up for sale at good prices. I ma trying to
find a good condition diesel without spending a lot right now. The early
rabbits and jetta golf vehicles are getting tons of kms and I don't want to
shell out for a very expensive rebuild before I can try the bio stuff.

There are several places to get organic ethanol out there. We have built
several stills for people that produce nothing but organic alcohol. If you
are interested I can have some contact you. Although why dont you make your

Anyone have a source for ethanol made from organically raised crops?

I'd like to try it with ethanol, but I've got a question. I know
 that most
 folks

 more
readily available, or less toxic, or what. But if it's not any more

 I'd

 you or

 northern

Methanol is used more often because the results is easier to control
 and
 more consistant.

Methanol is a little more toxic (to humans) then ethanol. On a toxic
 scale
 of 1 to 10 ethanol is a 3, methanol is a 4, benzine is 7 and gasoline
 is a
 9, take your pick

Methanol can be made from any source of carbon and hydrogen, this
 means that
it be made from air and water (with the proper amount of energy
 applied of
 course).

Yes it is.

Hm. No, Ed, I don't think Greg should have it his way. He's
definitely underplaying the dangers of methanol. I don't think it's
going to do anyone any good for D-I-Y biofuel neophytes to get the
impression that methanol is nice, cosy stuff like the wood it's named
for, only slightly less hazardous than the jolly old booze you buy in
a supermarket next to the food shelves and drink with your dinner.

I may be missing something, but, I don't think that I ever said that
methanol was only slightly less hazardous than the jolly old booze you buy
in a supermarket , it is more hazardous.

Please understand I never ment to imply that meth was safe work with
unprotected, it is not.

What I was trying to say, and failed to is that methanol like other
chemicals (that have a poision potential), need to be treated properly and
with respect, and when done so are to useful to be neglected.

For this, I am sorry.

It is one of the ingreaents that may be used, but, not by its self.

It may indeed be used by itself, and was indeed the original
 denaturant: add 5% methanol.

Yes, you are right, I was looking at Compleate Denaturant and missed Special
Denaturant. I am sorry for missing it.

We'd all love to know about an effective backyard
methanol production technique. Using dino-source methanol spoils it
for many of us - it means our beautiful clean biodiesel isn't quite
as clean as we'd like, and using ethanol instead has its problems.
 D-I-Y bio-methanol would be excellent.

I think that I found a DIY bio methanol, but all I have is 2 1/2 pages with
just an overview, that I am stuck on.

it. It takes high temeperatures and high pressures, eh?

Good luck!

RE: [biofuel] virus from this group

2001-11-29 Thread Keith Addison

Hi keith:
I don't know that person, and the mail with the virus was a reply to a mail
sended by me to the group and to no one else, this person could be a member
of the group with several e-mail accounts on his email reader, (if you put
that name on google.com and you look on his home page you can find other
email address), if you try to send a email to this person you will recive a
reply to your e-mail with the virus attached on it.

i don't like virus warnings either, but this is a real one and from here, i
have last version of trend Officescan on my computer and it warned me at the
moment the virus came.

happy biofueling!!

Manolo Rolan

Hi Manolo

I'm left pretty much in the dark when it comes to viruses because we
only use Macs here, so I have no experience of what happens or how it
happens. I have received this latest virus a few times, but it's just
an empty email, without even an attachment. None of them affect us.
It strikes me it's Micro$oft that's the real virus, no?

Happy biofueling to you too!

It was not Home Power, a book called Makin' It On The Farm : Alcohol Fuel

problem I'm running into, is it was put out in '79 and all the contact info.

Yeah, downright pity about ADM - any doubts that Big Biofuels will be
just like Big Oil if they have their way? Or worse. Come on guys,
forestall this bunch of thugs and get your local-scale bio-regional

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland Co.
(ADM) sees biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel as key profit
drivers over the next five years and beyond, as laws limiting
pollutants in the United States and elsewhere grow stricter, company
executives said on Wednesday.

Doubt it since Peugeot has been building diesels for over 100 years. Not a

[biofuel] washing machine and biodiesel

2001-11-29 Thread Manolo Rolan

Yesterday caming from the cinema i found a washing machine on the
trash, i took my screw-driver and my pliers and i started to take
pieces from it, i found those parts interesting to make a new brand
biodiesel processor.

electric engine - good for the main mixer
water pump - good for the methoxide mixer
solenoid valves - a step to automate the process making to move the
methoxide from its mixer to the main mixer after a time
thermostat - to shut down an electric heater when a temperature is
reached
tubes and cables

i want to use too a fridge's compressor for the bubble washing and
the methanol recovering

someone has try to do something like this?
is there something i could forget?
any extra ideas.

if it works i would share the experience and the photos, if it
doesn't just the experience :-)

thanks in advance
