2006-09-21 Thread Boris Jahn
Hi Timo and Jean-Sebastien,

Isn't this exaclty what the wiki is for? Just create a page for
thequestion (as in an empty page for the tutorial) and people will
createthe tutorial if they feel up to it. It's centralized and
  everyone canedit it.

I agree. Iirc collecting worthfull information from the mailing list was
one of the main reasons to initiate the wiki. The mails are already
collected in two archives and now making new websites with tips from the
list would scatter the information more and more and that's excactly
what we didn't wanted.

We should not keep the knowledge to ourselves.
I'll show the example, I will update my website with the trick about
the displacement rendering speed (someone gave me a while ago on this
list).

It would be nice if you could show this at the wiki!?

2006-09-21 Thread ShaddamIV

I don't have time to
understand how WIKI work, remember I am lazy and physicly sick.

It's better to host our own
tutorial and Robert can always link transparently to them. That way it is
easier to make changes.

My webstite capacity is 1
gig (there is no limit in fact). So forget WIKI.

I made an update yesterday
on my website www.neuroworld.ws There are some
errors with some links that will be corrected tonight.

And by the end of the
weekend, all the tutorial will be completed.

Please send me your
comments.

What if WIKI dissapear, Who
is WIKI?

Recently, I saw some
messages from WIKI in some of their pages telling the users to remove some
material because there was too much informations not related to an
encyclopedia.

Wiki is just an
encyclopedia, not a place to store informations.

I believe that sooner or
later they will check that people limit their post to essential information.

The best is Robert website
for people without a website.

It's the best realsoft
website.

But remember one thing, My
website is also a publicity, it's a commercial tool. When I created the
tutorial, It wasn't because I wanted to share informations, it was because I
wanted some visit on my website.

I am not writing on this
forum to help people, it's only to make people think of me for my own glory.

So writing on my own website
is an investment, writing on Roberts website is not.

 Ok, anyone with a
usefull article or answer to any realsoft problem:

 -Send me an html file

Jean :

Sorry , I know your heart
is in the right place , but no , this is not a good idea . There is already too
much splintering going on as far as Web Sites with RS inform- ation on them .

Right , now , in my
opinion , the best thing to do is pick the #1 RS site and work toward expanding
it's know- ledge base . That site , in my humble opinion would have to be
Robert denbroeders Web Site .

  Robert is a selfless
person who is not only a beta-test- er , but also a huge supporter of the
Realsoft3D community in many, many ways . Have a look at his tutorials alone !

http://members.chello.nl/rbroeder/

BJ is another , but he
runs the forum , which can be very usefull too , of course .

As I said in an earlier mail
, Satu was in the process of constructing an official , extensive
Realsoft3D Web Site before she left the community (I know she is probably still
around somewhat and wishing I would cool down) (grin) .

 I would say get behind
Robert's initiative with the energy that you have . Get in touch with Robert
and ask him if you could write a tutorial and if he would host it .

 This is really what the
RS3D community actually needs I think.

A single site for people to
go to first , with extensive tutor- ials and 3D objects Textures
Links (etc etc etc) .

  If you look closely at
Roberts Layout you will see he has the most perfect design . It's brilliant ,
actually , by a longshot.

Adding pertinent info to
your own RS3D interface could be as easy as visiting Roberts site and clicking
on your Tab of choice ...

  I myself tried to create
Realsoft3D tutorials that would fit right in with Roberts basic Web Page design
. It's a good solid basic design and easy to use .

  What do you , yourself
think about this suggestion ?

Why should it disappear?

Wiki is an OpenSource PHP Project.
The informations in the RS-Wiki has nothing to do

It's totally independent from other Wikis.

You have a point Gary, we should, if we can, put as much possible to
advance
the community. But it's not an obligation .

Not an obligation ? Hmmm ...

Do you not feel an obligation of some small amount toward
the society that you live in ? I dare you to say no .

If you are a 'Leader' in the society that you live in ,
how can you not contribute ? In my mind , if you are of
the 'Leader' status in your society , then you _must_

However , in the RS3D society , leaders show awesome

Why ? Because the last thing they want is for us to
follow ... and pass them easily ! It's the same all
over the world . Those on the inside track certainly
do not want to share the knowledge that they have
gained via their gravitational interactions .

Of course , what comes around goes around , and that
can be a bitch . Always-always-always there will be
those that are hoar-ders and all 'the rest of us' can
do is point them out whenever we have the opportunity .

And for the wide variety of subjects and opinions on this
 list : It's a free bonus.

This list is like an X-Box or Playstation Game to many .
Another diversion is all .

I say it 'till I'm Blue In The Face ;

Concrete Contribution is all that matters ...

Jump on IRC and you will meet all kinds of people who
are willing to help you .

You say RS3D is too slow but did you ever contact Vesa
of Juha and ask them directly ?

Robert d. and bore,us J are solid contributers but most
are just lazy people looking to kill time at work via
the RS3D list .

Spew to the list ... who cares , it will all be washed
away tomorrow , as everything that is posted to this
list inevitably is (no one seems to get it[bizzare]) .

Hey guys,

Question,
it wouldn't be very hard to set up a server to archive these emails
and have a nice interface for us userlists to browse / search through
them...

or are they being stored anywhere already?

(this would ideally be in addition to the solution mentioned above...)

This is very interesting,
So I guess it solve all the problems.

Next time I will double check what I write.

It's a must be very in needs solution though.

Next time I see a bright question and solution, I will compile it and edit
it to put on my website. Only if I have time for it : )

Gary is right, the lists and post on a forum is not as good as a small
webpage accessible to anyone in one click in a tutorial or faq section.

IF, everytime someone is stuck with a problem and ask this list, when he
find the solution, he should write a small resumé of the problem and the
solution and give it to me, I will put them on my website. I have 2 website.

That should be the punishment of the person daring asking a question on this
list and bothering everyone (--exageration--). I mean the people that take
time to answer the questions (most of time it's the same 4-5 person) deserve
that little service. And they should write the name of the people giving
them the solution as a (thank you).

We should not keep the knowledge to ourselves.

Hi Jean-Sebastian,

I like the feel that this list is private. Even if it's just an illusion.

The point is that if we knew these reply were compiled on a database (and
accessible), we would not discuss as we did in the past.

But this list isn't private since long time. Simply check the both links
