Thanks guys, meanwhile I created my very first ICE modeling compound...J I
modified the compound in the ICE modeling samples (columns from strands) and it
works like charm. However, when I use the Deform by Curve Compound, sometimes I
get stray vertices wondering around in the scene...

You might be able to get some ideas or adapt stuff from this:

Does it all have to be done with a single cloud/operator?

It's much easier to accomplish by breaking into phases:
1-Generate knot curves using particle sim
2-Extrude along curves

I'm thinking on creating braids with ICE modeling...does anybody have any idea
how to do this? Just experimenting...
